Changes at 790 The Ticket

I heard today that Kevin Rogers and the Dos Amigos are gone. I checked the 790 website and their pictures are no longer up. Does anyone know what happened? I enjoyed listening to K-Rog.

They fired Kevin Rogers and Larry Milian and announced plans to move Jonathan Zaslow to late mornings. Evening programing TBD.

Heard they are going to put a Marlins "hot stove" show evenings for the next few months. Talk about boring programming! Are they kidding me? And Zaslow is just a wannabe...he's cheaper than Kevin Rogers, that's the only reason he's going in there. If LeBatard ever goes away, that station is going down.

I'm surprised they let KRog go. He's only been doing that midday shift for a few months now. If they were going to dump him, why didn't they just leave him on at night? He does a good show and shouldn't have a problem finding some work.

Here's an idea for the guys running 790 ... get rid of the update people who sound like they're college interns and get people in there who sound professional. You fire guys who do good work and keep the people who sound retarded? Anyone ever hear Kristin Kelly do traffic? She says "Taking a look outside on the roads" in every report. NO SHIT THE ROADS ARE OUTSIDE! HAHAHAHAHA! I know she isn't a 790 employee (she works for Metro, who by the way will be out of business in about 6 months) but she adds to the sound of idiocy on that station.

They've got good, big-time personalities, but when I hear those updates, I can't stand it.

K-Rog was canned over $$$ and not the fact that he got trounced by Neil on a daily basis in the ratings. Of course they could have used him elsewhere. They were brave or smart enough to put an end to that joke of an experiment, los dos tontos, but can't afford to keep a good and quality radio voice like Kevin Rogers. That's why 790 does not get enough respect, but it is seen as a frat house rather than a radio station. Only LeBeturd or perhaps Rosenshitz can beat that boring old fruit who long ago spoiled and went stale. I wonder if Jorge and his magically dull solo shows - particularly the ones with that oh-so-less than mediocre corpse Suds - has ever beaten Sedano. It's a sad commentary when a show done part-time by a senior citizen in Canada - who on a daily basis recycles everything he ever has done - beats anyone, ever. I guess people are simpletons who prefer listening to someone drone endlessly on over a meaningless poll or to hear sad, lonely losers call a show to make some unintelligable sound only to be hung up on.

A friend of mine told me yesterday that K Rog was let go to make way for the Dan Patrick Show. He says the Ticket is going to put Patrick and Jim Rome on in mid-day to eliminate costs.

Dan Patrick is already on 640 Fox Sports. Is that a Miami based or WPB based station because I can't see Patrick on 2 stations in the same market.

I like 790 but they screwed Kevin. Zas weaseled his way into another job. be Boog's producer, be an ass kisser to everyone at that station, be a fake Jim Rome & your talentless ass can replace a good host like Kevin.

hey guys.

Last time i posted on here i got blasted b/c people thought i was an employee of a station instead of just a listener.

anyways, i listened from time to time to krogers on 790 around 11am on my way to lunch. I think it sucks they let him go... he seemed pretty knowledgable.

I listen to 560 from time to time and also 640. so I get a taste of all 3.
is 560 getting anything new? i just heard that they are not going to have big O twice a day? I think in a herald article I read that.
also, heard on 640, i think listening to it, that one of their hosts was going to 790? dont know who... went on wikipedia to look and they have 3.

anyone else heard anything about 560 or 640? why do things always have to keep changing when we get used to them.

take care guys

Love the one hit wonder or hit & run posts on this subject. I worked in AM radio for many years in sales. The best stations sounded like frat houses. The old WIOD w/ Rick & Suds, Neil, Phil Hendrie & Hank all sounded like that. So, I'd say you don't know the business very well. Also, I believe the combo of Sciambi & Sedano did beat Neil once and most recently it was fairly close. I feel bad for Kevin as well. I liked him for what it's worth, but that's the way this business works. It's not always fair. Kevin is good & he'll land on his feet.

Fall book came out and other than LeBatard, it was a disaster for 790 The Ticket. QAM thumped them in most areas. Wonder how much longer L-F will continue to pump money into a ship that is sinking - low ratings and even lower ad revenue. Look for them to do more syndication during the mid-days to save money.

I think Roxy has a Hard __ for LF. Geez man, do you talk about anything else? ;D

We've been hearing the demise of WAXY for years.

I heard they seriously considered adding Dan Patrick at one point, but it never materialized.

I'm actually more intrigued about the sales woes at the stations that really support that building LYF & MXJ?

Any word on that?

Hey, it could be worse, it could be a CC building and we know that the demise would be inevitable.

CC is a disgusting group.

Do you have a link?

SDC, sorry I have no axe to grind with LF, just love sports radio and commenting on what I see and hear. You're right about one thing though...if this was CC, WAXY would have blown up a long time ago.

I understand that 940 is picking up Fox Sports and dumping "progressive" talk and Ari America. That will definitely put the infla nail in 790's coffin.

why would 940 put nail in coffin? ratings disaster for waxy? seems to me that the ratings go back and forth each book except for lebatard.

CC did Fox Sports radio a couple of years ago. That experiment failed in the ratings. It would be stupid for them to do it again, trying to carve a very small piece of the sports radio pie. CC has no clue whatsoever on what to do with 940.

That rumor was out there a while ago when the WIOD -FM rumors were flying. Not saying it couldn't happen, but if they did do that they'd just run the network all day. They'd be no different then WFLL except they'd be wasting a 50k watt day signal. Wouldn't effect either QAM or WAXY in the least. There's barely room for 2 stations let alone a third. Ask the boys at JCR how they're doing with their 2 sports stations. Can you say if a tree falls in the woods & no one is there to hear it...

I have no particular favorite in this fight but I do have access to the arbitron ratings and I have no idea what Sports9 is looking at. In the last 3 books, QAM beat WAXY in Mornings and MidDays, WAXY won in Afternoons with LeBatard. This most recent Fall book, the differences were bigger across the board. To me, it seems like WAXY is betting on the 18-34 audience, QAM on the 35-54 side. Based on the commercials I hear on both stations, it's obvious that QAM is the much stronger sales station though one could say the programming is pretty equal. Heard from someone in the LF building that WAXY is selling spots real cheap. Can't imagine that formula will be successful short or long term. As for 940, those CC people are clueless - a 24 hour FSR station is not a good idea

That's actually inaccurate Roxy (sort of). What I believe Sports 9 is looking at is the M-F 6a-7p numbers M25-54 (which are the numbers that matter) & he's right it has flipped flopped. WAXY beat WQAM in that frame i the demo this past summer & they generally have flip flopped. The mornings have been pretty close in Spring & Summer and in Middays as well (Neil is not putting up anything better than 4's or 4.5's which has kept them close). Then, Lebatard beats up their afternoon & that's how you get the overall number being better for WAXY. So, you are right, but you're also wrong.

As far as sales... This is my expertise. Having been one of the few who has worked for 3 of the big player radio companies in town. WAXY is selling spots for less than QAM, but not by the margin it once was. QAM is selling spots pretty cheap these days too. Everyone is these days, CC, LF, BBGI, COX. You are right though QAM has the superior sales staff. Hands down. Though, it's actually worked out for WAXY b/c since they've been LF. They've actually gotten closer to their sales goals set by LF than their sister stations. Now again, all of this has to be kept in perspective. MXJ & LYF have much larger budgets. But, as far as the percentage of what their budgetary goals are they actually perform the best in the cluster. Hard to believe, but 100% accurate.

Now, you my friend are one thousand percent correct on a 24/7 FSR station run bye CC being an absolute disaster & flop.
