Changes at 92.1 and 94.3

AAA sounds fun. I hope it will have an alternative edge. What are the AAA stations like in the other markets? And wow this is pretty fast, I imagine this will be taking place in a week? Also, 93.1 is SUPPOSED to be WLXM by the first week of July. Still no one willing to take on WNOK?

Looking at the playlist from one of their stations in VA it looks pretty alternative with some older stuff thrown in... CC1

That's got to be one of the oddest playlists I've ever seen. Maybe a little like Chuck FM, but I definately wouldn't call it alternative. Sure there's some alternative stuff in there (Shins, Black Keys, Gotye, Love and Rockets, Grouplove), but together with Bruce Hornsby, Steely Dan, the Beatles, Crosby, Stills and Nash, and Paul Simon?!?!? It's all over the map. Interesting station. At least they play some newer rock that, well, here in Greenville we never hear. But don't think it's a station I could consistently listen to.

I missed some of the songs on the list, but even with some of the classic rock thrown in it still looks kinda interesting. I tried to look at their playlist in Wilmington, but kept kept getting a site error page and could not do anything with it... CC1

JMO, but it seems like Columbia could use Active Rock more than AAA, especially in a southern market where active typically does better than Alt.

I looked at their station in Wilmington which was once Classic Rock (103.7 The Bone). It looks like they have taken it in a more mainstream/active direction. Maybe they will do AAA on 92.1 and mainstream Rock on 94.3? Considering the rumors (AAA and Country) that's doubtful I guess. At least we know we have one interesting angle to look at. (AAA) Country has been tried more times than I can remember here. 96.7, 106.3 (mid to late 90's Newberry station), 92.1, 94.3, 93.9, 94.3 Again, did I miss any? LoL Speaking of rock, AAA is Steve's baby on 99.3, which is more Alternative to me. So what if any changes could concur with 92.1 as AAA with 99.3 and 93.5?

UPDATE: 107.9 will continue to operate as a Christian music station and more local talk shows and 93.1 being the music mix.

Some thoughts and questions:
I wish the new AAA would just pay WXRY for content and just rebroadcast them. That is an excellent station that could use the power upgrade.

What does this mean for "Good Morning Columbia"? That show does not fit either of these formats.

Am I wrong that the new owners of 93.1 would not be able to keep 107.9? I did not think a commercial owner could also own a LP.

When 92.1 first took on WCOS, they gave it all they had. TV, boards, Roper, etc. Does anyone have any reason to believe WCOS is more vunerable now? I would argue they are less likely to fall than ever.

The Good Day Columbia hosts mentioned this morning that they are moving "down the hall" to 94.3 beginning in early July. Also mentioned that the owners are "changing the format" of 92.1.

Whopper:

The same persons with an attributable interest in a commercial station are barred from having an attributable interest in a LPFM. It does not mean that cannot be closely related entities, only that the equity and control interests cannot overlap.

Looks just like their station template in VA... CC1

Actually, if you click some of the links, it gives pages taken directly from the VA station. If you're going to go live with a site like that, you better clean it up and make it your own.

I noticed that... Kinda odd, but what was even more interesting is that when you would click on the playlist I kept getting error 404 page. Whatever Davis does good luck to them. Now that I actually had the chance to look at the playlist from The Tides site someone mentioned WXRY-LP... I honestly don't think they have anything to worry about. XRY sounds more like what I wish was on a more powerful stick, but I think that takes away the charm of what XRY is all about. To me XRY seems more inline with some of the "Click" stations that is in OH and Seattle. Now what will be interesting is to see if GMC is on 94.3 will they keep Classic Country or would the Soft AC format their also... CC1
