Changes at DBC Greensboro

Looks like Long time GM Bruce Wheeler set to leave DBC Broadcasting I hear he has Representation. They can't keep anything quite over there. Will Jennifer Hart take over? The staff hates her!

Very interesting! Could it be that Mr. Wheeler is leaving on his own accord (probably not)? Could it be that Mr. Dick finally got fed up with Mr. Wheeler? OR, could it be that Mr. Dick is getting ready to sell the Greensboro properties and focus on horses? Kind of strange that Mr. Wheeler would be walking away from a $XXXk-plus salary after all these years without something BIG happening behind the scenes! Mr. Wheeler has not been a happy camper since he fired long time ops mgr Mr. Kerr. Me thinks me smells something funny on Lewis Street!

Insiders tell me Mr. Dick checked out years ago as an owner I wouldn't be surprised to see Curtis pick them off.
Word in Charlotte was they were very close to bringing Ace and TJ in a couple of months ago at least their PD was talking to Benztown.

Neither Bruce or Jennifer have what it takes to save that group.

Amateur Radio over there

Bruce Wheeler probably left the building July 1 to take a vacation. He's not going anywhere. And from what I hear, those two stations are still doing very well financially. I knew Jennifer from my old days in sales and she's a class act. Why is everyone here so down on successful, local broadcasters who are fighting a good fight against huge national competitors? What a bitter bunch.

As I predicted in May Bruce was escorted from the building on Monday. A sale of the Stations in happening. Insiders say its a relief he's gone.

If this is true, I wish both gentlemen well. Bruce Wheeler is a good man and built two fine stations there. If his time has come to leave I can't think of a better replacement than Dick Harlow. However I find it hard to believe Bruce was escorted out of the building. All parties in this matter have way too much class for that. DBC would make a good last stop for Harlow. He works best in small companies without corporate pressure.

wheeler??? Built?? How about dismantled what was a solid rock station on 92. The format became the floor mat, a pissed on puddle of 250 songs. How many times can a listener hear to All Along the Watchtower? or Aerosmith's Janie's Got a Gun or a couple of Beatle songs. If wheeler is gone, it is about damn time. Amberg, Bunch and Ronny. Krantz, love him or hate him, he compelled people to listen. Bring back personalities on rock 92 right now they can bite my ass

Happy Bastille Day in advance (7/14) and thank you for keeping alive the spirit of anonymous condescension, verbal assault and professional character assasination this board is so known for. And no, I am not Bruce Wheeler and I never worked for DBC. I just wonder what has happened to common decency and how these boards would be far more civilized if we all just posted our real names.

I've absolutely no irons in this fire. I got out of the business a year ago and have never worked in Triad radio. I would have to agree with gaveitup. There are often scathing comments made on these boards. The thing is there are real people reading these comments. Real people with real feelings.

I'd like to believe that most people do the best they can with what they've been given. Comments made here sometimes seem as if the poster thinks that resources are unlimited. Budgets and staff have been reduced -sometimes not merely for profit but to stay in business. Its a very competitive environment and an environment very different to what existed pre-1996 (deregulation). The Monday morning quarterbacks have probably never faced the kinds of decisions that present day broadcasters (at all levels) have to make every day.

agreed.
broadcast radio faces the same challenges as bookstores.
"used to be" being the main qualifier. even the biggies like
Barnes and Noble have given up on their Nook (HD radio).
E-readers, same as CFLs, are the transition to tablets or LEDs.
and THOSE are in transition. broadcast radio is three steps away.
(give me three steps...and you won't see me no more...)
1. radio's signal/noise sucks compared to competition.
2. radio's immediacy is irrelevant on our VoiceTrackPlanet.
3. radio's...aw, hell....y'all know better than me.

Does anybody really know what happened with Bruce at DB? Is it not possible that after 27 years he just said I've had enough and retired? These boards are so quick to jump on a topic and pick at it until it becomes infected. Give the guy a brake.

Why would we give him a "brake"? He hasn't given ANYONE a BREAK in more than a quarter century
