Changes at Red Eye Radio

Has anyone else listened to "John and Jeff" overnights on WTKK? I can't figure out if I like the show or not. At first I thought it was kind of boring, but it has grown on me. I especially like the weird commercials they play (mostly survivalist and conspiracy-based products and remedies). One of the hosts is from Row Dyeland and cannot pronounce the word "hundred" when giving phone numbers.

They had it on years ago, took it off, relegated it to weekends then brought it back to weeknights. They take on various subjects, have played back clips from "To Catch a Predator", and refer
to their "third shift" (graveyard shift workers) listeners as "party people". At the start of their show
they read off names of listeners who checked in (texts? IMs?) and where they're from: "over in
Boston we have Scott, Lisa, and John listening as they work at..." And I thought, isn't this kind of
like how Romper Room had Miss Jean looking through her magic mirror and saying "I see Robert, and
Emily, and Henry, and..." :)

Damn. This is a great show;If I'm up, I'll usually catch the first half hour or so after Batchelor ends.

"Miss Jean"?....I have no way of knowing if there's a difference in our ages, but when I was just a bitty little thing, the hostess of "Romper Room" was "Miss Sally"....

It's one of those little memories of childhood you just never forget...just as I remember watching the show on my parents Motorola B&W console TV....I even remember that in my area, the show was carried by New Bedford's WTEV,Channel 6.

Jean Durkee, a married name, is a fellow alum of Salem State and was featured in the alumni magazine a while back. It mentions Harry Agganis--I think he went to Lynn Classical, which I would later graduate from ('80; Salem State '84). I think Harry wore #33 which co-incidentally was the street number of Lynn Classical on N. Common St., when I attended (a new LCHS was later built elsewhere).
Funny folk singer Don White mentions marshmallow Fluff (mentioned in article) in "I'm From Lynn What Can I Say?"
(mentioned in link above). Durkee-Mower Co., East Lynn.
Was born in '62 so she was the host of the show when I was 5 or so (WHDH/5, right?)

I grew up in Nahant; I remember the 19" B&W we had in my grandmother's room (later my room) could get 10 and 12 OK but 6 was a tough get (rabbit ears)
Claster Prod. syndicated the Jap. sci fi cartoon Star Blazers (Space Cruiser Yamato) which 38 ran in 80s

"Miss Sally" was the Baltimore franchise. Was New Bedford's Channel 6 running the Baltimore version?
the
I lived in Roslindale and later on, Dedham, and 10 and 12 weren't always watchable. It was pretty rare that we could get 6.

In Sharon, 10 and 12 came in like locals on the rabbit ears. 6 was a challenge. Surprised there was such a difference from Sharon to Dedham; was the Great Blue Hill a factor?

I'm almost as "ancient" as you, having been born in 1963, and grew up near Fall River.

In the house I grew up in, Boston's Channel 5 didn't exist on any of the TV's...since we lived close enough to Channel 6's Tiverton RI transmission tower that reception of WHDH-5 resulted in nothing but noise and a "herring-bone" pattern on the screens.

It's quite understandable that reception of WTEV-6 would have been tough anywhere near Boston because of that Tiverton RI transmitter site, which was roughly 15 miles south of the Rehoboth, MA sites of Channels 12 and 10.

At the time I would have been watching "Romper Room"...WTEV-6 was owned by the same company that owned WGAL, Channel 8, in Lancaster PA. Is it possible that WTEV-6 was running the same version of the show that WGAL-8 was running?

I don't think so. That's directly to the east.
Does anyone recall when in the late 60's Channel 6 ran an experimental test pattern that somehow showed up in color on B+W TVs?
I remember it showed up in blue and green and there was a lot of audio static.

I like Coast to Coast alot and John and Jeff almost as much, so there's no chance of me listening to Midnight Radio Network. Coast to Coast is a good show for stimulating conversation. I listen to John and Jeff when I don't feel like thinking too much since their show is geared more towards entertainment.

Doug McIntyre did an excellent job with Red Eye Radio, it's sad to see him go. I wish him luck at KABC. We'll see what the new hosts are like, but as long as it remains a pleasant alternative to Coast to Coast, I will continue to listen.

Instead of having repeats on the weekend on the upcoming "Midnight Radio" as they posted, they should have Mark Germain host weekends.
Because like I said earlier, people listen at those times, there are a lot going on at that time all around the whole United States as well as around the world.
And if not Mark Germaine, why not have Doug host one night and Mark host another?

Bert Claster who created Romper Room also gave us Candlepins for Cash. He was married to the first Miss Jean.

I am going to miss Doug McIntyre. John and Jeff don't do it for me. A total hour of people calling in to guess what is the most popular color of car sold in Turkey gets pretty old fast.

It's odd to hear McIntyre still voicing the "Flight 680" intro into the Jack Sheldon music and then have it referred to as "Mark Germain's Red Eye Radio".
