Changes at The Edge

It sounds like The Edge has dropped its "Independent Radio" slogan, in favor of "The Valley's Alternative Rock." In the process, daily features and specialty shows, including "Ska-Punk" (which should be a weekly show in the first place), "The All-Request Lunch Hour," the Top 10 at 10, and "Local Frequency" have been dropped (or at least not aired the past couple of days).I wonder what's behind these changes? With the new slogan and such, it sounds like Riviera is going to keep the alt-rock format on 103.9, but with the Power rumors floating around, anything is possible.

As usual in the world of radio fixing whats not broken!!!!!It really is to bad i love ska punk and the all request show.If they are just going to add a bunch of active rock i would rather see them blow the station up then listen to a wannabe alt station. When they tweaked the station in summer of 04 i was quite pleased with the station well like it become power then i won't listen anymore anyway.Riviera not the brightest are they???

Looking at yes.com, it looks like KEDJ is going back to actually sounding alternative and not just playing the same stuff KUPD plays. Maybe they finally realized (like many have said here) that they should take advantage of being the only alternative station in town and actually sound like one.

what a difference 1 year makes. At this time last year they sounded great! The air was clean and all they did was play tons of great music. THEN we heard the owner saying it was sold to new owners that were commited to making it even better...what a joke. i think from what i read in the paper that they cleaned house and brought in all new staff and people from KZON...i think the pd that got fired at KZON is over there....I remember reading a quote when they fired the old pd and that the new guy was going to get them to the super bowl or something like that...um hey new owner...nice work you and all your people have messed up what was a great radio station and now you SUCK! I list to KUPD all the time now... no more ska punk, no more lunch hour, no more top 10... ummm yea nice work..that's why we listened to the edge... i mean why else would we listen to that bad signal unless there was a reason! I Love KUPD!

"Shuffle" weekends every weekend?

???I hope they're not seriously considering doing this every weekend. What a way to drive away their core audience.

They're doin a shuffle weekend.Would like to her a little more variety though.

They also did the "shuffle" thing last weekend. It sounds like they're playing the same 20 non-alt-rock songs whenever they throw it to "shuffle." Nothing like the one request-based shuffle weekend they had last summer.

I am sure.....They have no idea what they are doing. Makes you wonder what they will do if the Power talk is true. I mean in one year could they really get handed 2 main Arizona radio stations and make them suck? if so....could someone other then these guys buy power 92? Who are the new owners anyway and where did they come from?

With all the CRAP at the Edge right now it makes me wish Free fm would flip back to the Zone.

So all that they needed to do to make what they were doing before perfect was two simple things:

1. Improve the imaging so that it didn't sound so Dry.

2. Let the DJs talk over the intros liek they do at 99% of the other alt rockers in the nation.

Well, -- they did both of these things!

One major problem though........

They dumbed down the music to the lowest common denominator.

The thing that made the Edge one of the top 5 alt. rock stations in the US was its musical ambition and its unpredictability. Not just the featured shows that were wildly popular such as the All Request Lunch, but even the format itself...you never quite knew what The Edge was going to play.

The music now is so predictable and formulaic -- listeners are so bored they're leaving the station in droves. Take your existing station elements and bring back some interesting music and you'll have a hit.

Otherwise, last one to turn out the lights..........

are the jacobs' brothers still consultants to kedj?

if not, should they be?

Just can't wait to here that latest flyleaf or even better mudvayne baby ;D gotta love it ???
What on heaven and earth are they doing with that station

The Best this station has sounded was 10 years ago on 106.3 and 100.3 and last year. I liked the dry into's and the dj's not takling over music. I mean I don't want to hear some dumb crap about what happened last night on t.v I want to hear music..songs the way they were recorded. Now, the station just sucks... i don't know who you are talking about Jacobs brothers??? the only thing I know is the new people have made that station hard to listen to!! So I just don't

jacobs media started 'the edge' across the country. ..and i think they still own the 'edge' name.

Well if they are not there and were when the station was good they need to pick up the phone and call them!

The best 103.9 sounded was in the early 90s when it was KTPY "Arizona's Party Station".... downhill ever since. They had better ratings then with a low power signal from Coolidge than they do today with 100KW and their alt rock format. 8)
