Bostonradiowatch reports that a new PM drive show will debut at the Rock on June 5.Former Atlanta team Fred Toucher and Rich Shertenlieb (auditioned last month) will take over 3-7 shift currently held by "Hardy."

Why does WBCN feel the need to import non local strangers when they had a couple of local choices(Nik & Neanderpol)they could have went with? They had to be thinking about this back in December.Any news what will happen to Hardy?

There are many, many local disc jockeys that WBCN could have considered. Neanderpaul and Nik Carter posted quite frequently on the old Radio-Info board, and maybe that's why you reference them, but for great local talent that has staying power BCN could have tapped Art Institute of New England or WERS or WMLN - a lot of great talent. Grapevine says All Independent Radio talent just got hired at one of the Top 3 stations in town. Keep in mind, Paul had two good opportunities - AAF and BCN, and Nik certainly had plenty of time to establish himself. They just didn't click with Boston, for whatever reason. Hopefully they learned from their mistakes and are doing well in Kansas City and New York City, respectively.I think the new WBCN move to import talent is a good one. WBCN has had a cloud for much too long - a nice, clean sweep from the past is what is needed. Looking forward to the new show - it actually is going to get people to tune in just to try the new flavor out. That's something both Paul and Nik couldn't bring to the equation.

With all due respect, I will agree to politely disagree with your sentiments here. I'll also set the record straight with regard to your theorizing as it applies to me.It is my understanding that Nik Carter was the unfortunate victim of having been hired by a predecessor, and "making too much money." The new management, as is often the case, made a change where they felt appropriate. Think of a new coach bringing in their own players.I was let go from WAAF because the program director felt that putting Mike Hsu in middays would help transition their morning show cume to the rest of the day, and Mistress Carrie is "an institution." in Boston, and should be moved into PM drive. This program director felt that I would not accept a move into nights. And, without discussing it with me, chose to just cut bait. In the end, they made the decision they felt was best for their station. And whatever your opinion of my performance, or the content I brought to WAAF, in my situation these are the facts. Just so you're aware. There is absolutely zero evidence of not "clicking" anywhere in the performance of either personality. Nik was a staple in the city for what was it 9 years? I believe his record speaks for itself. I also had a proven track record of success while at WAAF. So much so, that WBCN had to change the talent in that daypart in order to compete. Additionally, I'd also like to set the record straight one time for you Mr. Varulven. My exit from WBCN was of my own choosing. There's absolutely zero tangible evidence of any mistakes made by either personality. Any statements to the contrary should be prefaced by the fact that they are the author's opinion. The data just does not support your original assertions regarding either personality. The changes were decisions made by managment of the respective stations, and in time will either prove to be the correct, or incorrect ones. In the case of WBCN, they have yet to recover the ratings they once enjoyed with Nik Carter in PM Drive. That shouldn't be interpreted as an indictment of the current PM Driver's abilities. As we all know, there are many factors that can either nurture success, or prohibit it. Some of those things may, or may not be in place at WBCN at this time. These recent changes at WBCN are rumored to have been made by corporate, and even the management on Birmingham Pkwy was allegedly unaware that Opie & Anthony were their mandated replacement for DLR. Toucher & Rich were allegedly signed as a "local" replacement for AM Drive. Hardy & Hamilton are the unfortunate victims of a continued perception of confusion within upper management of CBS Radio. The Program Director of WBCN is reportedly out of town while all of this takes place. Does that sound like standard operating procedure during the Spring book?Bringing in talent from out of town is a gamble. It may work as an infusion of new blood. But, history has shown that Boston remains an incredibly parochial market, and initially unreceptive to outsiders.Let's give it a few months before we opine. Everyone's rebuilding. Let's see how it looks when the paint dries.

now see! i go away for a few weeks and somebody redecorated the place!!!! man, we get this shiny new website (which im not loving) and a chance to start all over and what do i find? the same ramble and babbling about Nik and Paul getting fired bla bla bla...really, ENOUGH! you don't have to turn this post into a dig at paul and Nik. you have no IDEA what "clicked with boston" you've never "clicked" with anyone!!!!and to Paul, you really don't need to defend yourself or Nik to "the king of NO media" everyone here other then his "lawyers" see right through his angry little posts! he only replyed to this one so he could bash you guys!and wbcn importing talent is NOT a good thing! WBCN killed off a great local show for Stern and another for O&A. the dark cloud you speak of is them having to take national shows because they a part of the CBS radio "family". we didn't need DLR and CBS putting O & A back on (don't get me wrong i like them) is a slap in the face to Stern who made them untold millions...but thats another post!sorry redbaron for jacking your already jacked postnow, should i use the angry "smiley" faces the next time?....... ::)

one poster said that Nik didn't adapt well with boston. Umm he grew up here.I hope that with the new AM+PM drive getting moved I'll find myself checking out BCN more but I'll be gone quick again cuz I am sure I'll hear the Stones and Guns and Roses for the 10 billionth time.

Vaka wrote "one poster said that Nik didn't adapt well with boston. Umm he grew up here."Growing up in a community and adapting to the audience should be considered two different things. In defense of Nik, most of the WBCN hires coming onboard around his time and after have not had the kind of staying power we experienced in the golden days of Maxanne, Charles, Mark, Ken, when people tuned in and were comfortable with the voices and the conversation. But, again, the conversation shifts to Nik and Paul because they participate on these boards. Many of us never heard of Paul Marshall until he started posting. His relevance in the radio community a mere blip on the radar screen. It would be nice if I could write something factual without 3-5 "fans" jumping all over it.But consider all the jocks that are STILL on the radio and were on long before Paul Marshall. We don't talk about them because they don't spend their time corresponding on these boards (nor do they have friends support them immediately like some kind of Karl Rove campaign the minute someone makes an objective comment).

Everything about this site changes, except Joe Viglione attacking people and then playing the victim. How utterly boring. Just like I'm sure his cable access show must be.

Good to see everyone in Smalltown er I mean Beantown is still so open minded. You should want some talent from a larger market. (Atl #10) Smalltown # 11. Y'all enjoy the new show!

everything he posts comes back to a little angly political message...have you noticed that? You don't get it do you? really! one guy posted about WBCN bringing in national talent. then you Mr "better then everyone" use his post to backhand other people.I'm not a friend of Nik or Paul but i listened to both of them. Im sorry that you can't believe people listened and liked them. Just because you don't like them and you think they didn't "click" with boston.who do you think you are? why are you speaking for all the listeners in the boston area? you admit in your post that you never listened to or heard of Paul Marshall! maybe, then maybe you don't listen to enough Boston radio to have an opinion on IT! I listened to Paul when he first came on i thought he was a great change of pace from the regular WAAF regulars (and i listen to WAAF so i unlike JV can have an opinion on it). How many times do i have to point it out? YOU have been hired by NO 50,000watt stations,NONE! if you think you can do better theres a job posting on WBCN/CBS if YOU are SOOOOO much you should get on WBCN and prove me wrong.http://www.wbcn.com/wbcn_com_files/workhere.htmyou "Mr Perfect" been down this NIk and Paul fired ect. ect. ect. road a dozen times, most of the times the very person you are talking about tries to tell you what really happened! nobody on here owes you (or us) an explanation. I've been fired from stations, thats the radio biz.nobody is attacking the great JV because he has an opinion. it's because he feels the need to point out everyone else's failures (again and again and again and again and again) if you can call being on a 50,000 watt station (or two) a failure. I've never been/or will be on a 50,000 watt station in my career but i can't imagine having the nuts to tell Nik Carter he "stinks" because he was only on WBCN for 9 YEARS!!!! or making fun of him being on the air in NYC.honestly do you think about what you write???we get it! we get it! really! you are better than all of us! you who has 35 years on public access TV (maybe you should join the new TV boards) you ran WNSH and DJ'ed on college radio magawonder WMFO. my hero JV! please stand by for JV automated response #125 ::) maybe he'll mention payola next time!

I was thinking the respected international journalist was finally going to provide proof that Oedipus sold those discs.

BCN needs help!

Anyone notice 'BCN's 12+ numbers ?Is anyone listening? The music, imaging, and on-air chatter on that station have all deteriorated badly since Wellington came in. With the exception of Mark Hamilton - I hope he survives the carnage that's about to begin there.I'd listen to 'BCN a lot more if they could get a listenable music mix together. Both 'AAF and 'FNX nail their target listener profiles, but 'BCN can't figure out who they want listening, which at the moment seems to be nobody.

For your information, Nik,
Nik hasn't posted in this thread, genius. Or is this another of your deluded conspiracy theories?

Heck, my cable show - which is Research & Development for my writings - reaches more people than WBCN
Someone get Joe a higher dosage. He's clearly experiencing dementia.

The more things change...the more they stay the same.Getting back ON topic, WBCN's 12+ showing is absolutely unacceptable. I'm sure CBS saw this coming, and the O&A deal will correct part of it.I think Mark Hamilton is a very good, and passionate personality. I'd hope they don't bury him in overnights too long. The Toucher & Rich thing is probably a good show, (although who would know because nobody listened the night the auditioned) but having seen on this board how someone I'm guessing is affiliated with the show has already called Boston "Smalltown" and then "Beantown" (note to you oh "big market talent" nothing says "I'm an outsider" like calling our home "Beantown"...it's like calling San Francisco "frisco", and New Orleans "nawlins"...the residents HATE it, and it will never endear you to them. Keep it up and you'll find yourself in Eugene Oregon right quick...PS How DOES it feel to be a conquered people?)Oh, and the difference in market size between Atlanta, and "Smalltown" is approximately 19,000 people. Factor in the college kids, and it's a wash, son. Boston's actually bigger than the city America took back from the confederacy. Perhaps they didn't teach statistics in the South.Sorry...digressed.Hardy turns out to be the big loser here. I'm betting nobody told him that he was going to be lied to about where Toucher & Rich would be slotted. And conspicuosly smart in his silence is Adam 12. Also, a great guy, who just plugs along.WBCN and WAAF are fighting over a potential 3 share 12+. And WFNX could potentially sneak right up alongside both of them with it's new signal. It will be fun to watch.

Anything is possible. Who ever thought K-Rock and WYSP would flip?

YSP was much closer to WNEW's hot talk format than WBCN was. OK, maybe not that much closer, but at least Infinity had another rock station to send its YSP rock listeners to, right?

Toucher and Rich will be the best afternoon drive show in America. Keep watching.
Nothing says "one of these guys is my friend" like a post like this.Right now, you gotta think Don & Mike are pretty friggin' good. And Boston's not a proving ground for new shows. IF those guys end up being good, it won't be in Boston.

Leslie Gold a.k.a The Radio Chick will be syndicate very soon. She'll be the afternoon show on 'BCN.
