Changes coming to 103.9 in Louisville?

Try this, it's free: http://www.dailychanges.com/domaincontrol.com/2015-07-31/

OK, so it's almost impossible to wade through all of that... but since they're in numerical order, you'll find 1039jamz.com as being recently registered. Furthermore, if you just try jamzlouisville.com... it is registered to some anonymous party, on the same day 1039jamz.com was registered. Jamz is a branding that is used for their hip hop stations in three different markets.

Sounds to me like they see what is going on over at 96.5 (and 105.1) and want in on that too.

There is a Shania Twain concert on Monday that they've been "hawking" (pardon the perhaps soon to be irrelevant pun). I'm guessing they'll wait until after that.

I don't know, it's no loss either way... we were cluttered with country, now we're cluttered with rap. Actually we're still even more cluttered with country if you consider all of the rimshots, much more so than country.

I've always wanted somebody try a "commercial" AAA format here (sort of like Alpha's KINK in Portland, which has a mix of the lesser hits from very well known artists as well as a lot of popular songs of the 80s/90s/00s that tend to not get airplay anymore), but I'm not holding my breath on it.

I think part of the problem with classic hits is they have 107.7, which is really more classic rock than classic hits, but they would be forced to either call two stations classic hits (which would make them look ridiculous) or create a classic rock station at 103.9 (which would effectively be the same as what is going on at 107.7). When WRKA was "oldies" (which, by the way, I bet would sound a lot like WGHL did if it were still going today), WSFR was very upfront about saying what they were: classic rock.

But more than anything else, I think it is just that they see that the urban formats are becoming a huge deal here and just want in on that. No telling if they'll actually be able to get in on that. Alpha has the experts who've been doing it for years and the stations that were once in the hands of Radio One, "the urban media specialists," while Summit has a bunch of people who've put half of their local efforts into country for years and the other half into a classic rock station and an adult contemporary station. It could go over as well as when "the urban media specialists" tried to do country at 104.3.

I still say there needs to be an all sports station on FM, not owned by UL. There is no CBS sports radio affiliate in Louisville so that could work, and focus on more UK to offset 93.9

Some of the CBS Sports Radio programming, including Jim Rome, are aired on WXVW 1450.
I'll say it again. The Fox needs to return to 100.5 and 93.1 could be a simulcast of WKRD 790. I can't understand that while 103.9 seems to be planning a switch that the awful MY-FM format continues on 100.5.

No need to simulcast 790 and 93.1. 790 is a good signal and 93.1 is Louisville's only rock station.

Louisville would still have a rock station if they returned 100.5 to the Fox, 790 could be fox sports national and 93.1 could be all local including KSR

Maybe so, but they can't be making too much money with low ratings, not enough people listen, sports would bring in different advertising

All we're seeing are the 12+ numbers. Is it possible MY FM is doing better in specific demos? I would love for the Fox to move back to 100.5, but which format would bring in more money at that frequency?

The thing about sports is that it's good... for AM. There isn't a lot you can do with AM anymore, your only choices are talk radio (certainly dying), fire breathing preachers (yeah...), and sports (still a bit left in it, but even sports radio is being marginalized thanks to more in-depth and interactive online content these days). FM is still versatile, and it wasn't that long on here that it was mentioned that 93.9 was being "wasted" on UofL sports. UofL/UK sports works, and honestly that's about all that works around here. And not even full-time, since a lot of people don't care at all around here between April and September.

The point is, if there were 10 AM sports stations, it wouldn't be a waste. But just because there is one UofL centered FM sports station... in the city of Louisville, where UofL is actually located... doesn't mean that there needs to be a UK (or whatever else) centered sports station to "balance" it out. I'm not even saying that WLCL needs to stay, but the last thing we need is more sports clutter on FM. There isn't enough UofL content to fill WLCL, and there isn't enough UK content to fill an entire radio station either. Sports are a huge thing and there are lots of things that can be covered and lots of affiliations that can be had. But I'd say that 95% of it is of no general interest to people in this market.

I just find it odd that all of this comes up in the same thread where it is mentioned that we have too much hip hop on the radio here. It sounds like this Jamz (if it is actually happening) is going head-to-head with B96, and honestly, B96 is all alone when it comes to current hip hop and R&B. And their ratings are spectacular, they're #2 and very close to beating WAMZ in the ratings. If you combined the ratings for ALL of the sports stations here (and when I say all of the sports stations, I'm even throwing in WKJK just to be generous), you'd have something that still only be roughly around 5th place at best. Personally I'm not thrilled about another hip hop station myself, but it's a format that is certainly in demand around here and Summit is doing a wise thing to at least give it a shot.

Maybe after the Shania Twain concert?

That's exactly what I'm thinking. While the concert is just one thing and they could just go ahead and flip now if they wanted to, they've been promoting the concert very heavily and giving away tickets and such. And it's a big concert at the Yum! Center, not just some small free event at a local night club.

I imagine there is going to be an unusually large amount of backlash against this. It isn't like when Gen-X morphed into MyFM (there were lots of complaints and people stopped listening, but nobody was truly outraged by it) or Country Legends morphed into The Hawk or even when Oldies morphed into country on WRKA. Most of the format changes we see around here are just a tweaking of the audience, but they still manage to hold on to some of the people in the old demographic. This would be a complete overhaul of a station that actually DOES have a respectful (though somewhat small) number of listeners, and people don't handle that well around here. And if it is anything like when GHL switched to Old School a few months ago, some of the discourse will likely be a tad-bit (if not completely) racist... there were things that were said (and deleted) on their Facebook page that alluded to things that I can't even bring myself to repeating on here out of fear of being taken out of context. The rumors (and who knows, they could just be completely wrong... doubt it though) seem to be limited to just this board right now and I'm sure their fans have no clue what is about to come down... so they'll be in for a huge surprise that they certainly aren't going to like.
