93.1 went alternative a couple years ago. After the format switched back to active rock, one of the DJs joked about playing rock again, they jokingly said "and here is Coldplay." Now they are going back, again.
I also heard Vanetti this morning say a big change is happening at 10 am tomorrow. I hope not, but I have a feeling it will combine the current fox with harder classics rock. I am hoping that they will take more of a classic hits format with current rock mixed in. They just added some classic hits (INXS, Modern English, FIXX, etc) and they have a female now saying the station ID.
I wonder how many people will be fired?
I have never had a job in radio, just a listener, but I imagine the meeting which Toni TNT as he announces to everyone at WQMF what the change will be. "I have a brilliant idea! We are going to make some changes around here. You know all those good classic-alternative leaning songs that WQMF plays, which made us unique, the songs 107.7 wouldn't touch? Well those are out! (The Clash, REM, 90's U2, Ramones) You know those middle of the road, singer-song writer rocks songs that built this station, GONE (mostly)! (Mellencamp, Springsteen, Bryan Adams) You know those interesting pop-rock 80's songs that we just recently starting playing again? OUT! (INXS, Fixx, Simple Minds, Blonde, Outfield, mid 80's Pat Benatar, Pretenders) You know those rocks songs we play without loud guitars. No MORE! (Elton John, Beatles, Billy Joel, Eagles (mostly), Fleetwood Mac, Journey (mostly), Cars)
Now, you know the songs we have overplayed for 34 years by bands that have large libraries of songs that we ignore? We are going to play them even more! (AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Zepplin, Skynyrd, Bad Company) Plus we are going to take the songs that The Fox has been overplaying for years, by bands that have large libraries of songs that we ignore and add those to our playlist! (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, RHCP, STP) We won't touch new songs by these bands, but we may play one or two songs from this century. I am so BRILLIANT!"
