Changes coming to Jam'n...

today while listening to jamn i heard a few weird songs that would belong on kiss rather than jamn:

Lady Gaga- Just Dance
Black Eyed Peas- Boom Boom Pow

i wouldnt say that either of these are hip hop or Rnb as their slogan says.

From what I see they sense Urban AC finally coming to town and they want to compete.
Going a little lighter on the hip hop and tossing in adult appeal urban and RnB AC tracks.

What a colossal mistake that would be.

Yes, adult urban music has its appeal, and would find a niche in Boston. It's just that people aren't going to seek it out through the Jam'n brand.

expect a sound more in line with a true Rhythmic CHR. They've leaned heavy on the Urban since '97. 50 and Jay-Z aren't that cool right now. Rhythmic-Dance-Pop acts like Flo Rida, Akon, Gaga, and Rihanna are. The move makes sense in the PPM world. It also strengthens their position within the younger demo while Kiss can lean a bit older. And it's an offensive move to a possible CBS CHR shake-up in Boston.

well arent they inthe top as far as ratings? so if they do this maybe another station in boston will flip to what jamn was inthe late 90's-present before the move that is maybe cbs would fake jamn out and do nothing at all up here hmmm

Are you getting this from an actual source, or just guessing?

Assuming this is TRUE...

Then Jam'n may very well go back to their early sound, when they spun the likes of La Bouche, Stevie B. , Fun Factory, Culture Beat, Alisha, The Bucketheads, Corona, Real McCoy, Outhere Brothers, and Real To Reel.

This is fact from a credible source. Not fiction. We aren't talking format change here. Just tweakage. I wonder too if the slogan will change. I guess 'hip-hop and R&B' still works even if there's a few Britney records thrown in. LOL ;D

'93-'94 they were like they are now...Urban-ish..spun Wu-Tang Clan, SWV, and Warren G at the time. '95-'96 they started spinning the aforementioned acts like radiorama said...I LOVED Jam'n at this point! Then in '97 when P. Diddy & Mase were all over the charts it was back to Urban. They could be great going back to their true rhythmic roots!

Agreed. The mid-'90's was a good sound on Jam'n. Hip hop is fading anyway.

" Hits and Hip-Hop " slogan ?

Rapking, there are not too many stations out there using the "Hits and Hip-Hop" slogan. Chicago's B96 is now "Chicago's #1 Hit Music," despite the fact that they still lean Rhythmic. If Kiss and Jamn were not both CC properties, it wouldn't surprise me if Jamn went in the direction of B96. However, since they fall under the same corporate umbrella, I do not think this will will happen...

I'd rather they go back to their rock roots.

-- I know this doesn't contribute to the discussion, but just wanted to say it.

Jamn Great ratings ( By default )and too many rock stations here in Boston, WCOZ is history .

well maybe if they turned it into a krock like station with a blend of classic and new rock i would listen, we have too many one or the other zlx classic, wbcn mostly new i like whjy they play a good mix of both new and old. but if jammin does tweak the format going for a jamn/kiss mix would be good thoughts?
