Changes For Bangor Radio

Actually Biffstunt, since BEFORE the beginning for me. The first call letters were WUMC, which I HATED and changed to WBZN after buying the construction permit. I partnered with Mike Elliott and we eventually built and then sold to Q106.5. Kid came aboard just after the KISS 94 group bought WWFX Fox 104.7 and dumped the CHR format, to play the Greatest Hits of the 70s with us at the Abandoned Convenience store in Old Town. I am extremely grateful to be working with a LOT of talented people at 49 Acme Road. Many I have also worked with previously at other stations, and it really is like a big family.

i guess life moves on, with or without B97, i still do believe Bangor should get another CHR that's a little bit more rythmic than HOT AC leaning and brings back the "B" slogan :D

:( RIP B97 :( :(

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

The WEEI move, is the current trend with local content going away in favor of national programs. WEEI works well in a major market like Boston. Boston can support WEEI.

But WEEI on peanut popper stations strung together like tin cans?

WEEI is more likely to outdo any of the truly national sports radio networks (SNR, ESPN, Fox) because while it isn't on the same block local, it is still at least regionally-based programming. It will focus on the same professional teams that the locals discuss. Does the local programming on WZON talk Red Sox? Patriots? Celtics? It sure does. Sports-wise, all of New England is more or less a Boston suburb. If WEEI works in Marlboro and Fitchburg, it can work in Bangor. I don't think WEEI can be compared to one of the nationals like ESPN or SNR.

WZON/WEEI should be a good battle. WZON has had a couple of good books (with men) since they lost U Maine.
More time to talk Sox and Patriots, which of course WEEI does.
The local shows will have their hands full against WEEI.
