changes in Cookeville

spew said:
why is this in the Nashville discussion board? There is a Tennessee board for these small towns.
My thoughts, too. Cookeville is over an hour away from Nashville, and I can't receive any Cookeville stations here. The Tennessee board doesn't get much turnover, and would be better for discussion of Cookeville stations. Just sayin'

True:

But having lived in Cookvagas, I use to get several Nashville stations on good car radios and most folks use to watch Nashville TV stations for local news. BTW WGSQ has limited WHPY's signal on the east side of Nashville. If you post on the Tennessee board some times it takes a week for anybody to notice.

Could be because Larry Stone ownes several stations in Cookville?

Back when Scott was still here, he tried to pass off an AM station in Russellville, KY, as being in the "Nashville metro market." Since I couldn't receive them here (at least not very well), I said no way to that. (Just because he could receive them up in Sumner County did not make them a "metro Nashville" station.) I was in East Tennessee last fall, and noticed that the Knoxville TV stations give Cookeville and Crossville temps on their weather reports. So Knoxville claims that area, too. And just because the Tennessee board is "slow" is no reason not to post there. Post something interesting, and they will come! :)

IMHO There really is no real need for a Tennessee board except for Jackson Tn The East Tennessee board with Chattanooga, Knoxville and the Tri Cities markets pretty much covers everything East of Cookeville. The Nashville market really goes from Cookeville to Jackson, and Memphis dominates West Tennessee. Of course every state gets a board. Just my 2 cents.

Cookeville's 98.5 and 94.7 both made the Nashville ratings list. And people actually check the TN page? I'm in Davidson county (east side) and have listened to 94.7 for over a decade.

Cookeville does not have a Hip Hop/Urban station for the same reason why Knoxville does not have one, demographics. If there is no African American businesses and enough of that population, not a viable business proposition. Now in Chattanooga, a Hip Hop/Urban does very well due to the demographics and African American advertisers to keep it a viable business.

I go to Cookeville every day...and have for the past ten years on my job...I can go weeks without seeing a black person of either sex...Mexicans are not represented much either..which is somewhat strange given that that area is very much a farming community..I seldom listen to any of the stations there..but I'm pretty sure there is not a Spanish station either..

I was in Antioch last night, and Hippie Radio came in just fine there, with no interference at all from the Cookeville station (although I was able to tune them in as well). Neither station interfered with the other (although neither one strong enough to for the "seek" button to stop on them). Also, 98.5 came in well, although again not strong enough to stop the "seek" button.
