Changes on 96.9 WTKK

They could try to go after WBZ-AM, but they wouldn't have the CBS News infrastructure advantage.

Given the poor quality of The Harbour, there's still an opportunity for an 80s-centric variety hits format that leans slightly female. Seems like that would be a complementary sell as part of Greater Media's existing cluster....They could make a go at it before The Harbour catches on.

Domain names seem to center around "news talk" which I take to mean news-oriented
talk shows (but some news presence). I don't think they'd go all news--still have talk shows
and I think E&B and Graham are in a contract till next yr

E&B--prob does well
Meehan--local talk (or would they substitute as syndie show?)
Smerconish--they seem to like him or would they shift him to diff time slot to have a local
run vs Rush, would they?
Graham--prob the same
Then they have Wall St Wrap Up, Batchelor, and Grayson.
Would they dare hire Katz or Severin, or pick up some of the syndie shows gone from
XKS AM? Can't have Rush or Coast 2 Coast

They have gone through quite a few imaging changes in the past several years. They were (not 100% about order) "96.9 FM Talk", "96.9 WTKK", "Boston's Talk Evolution" and now "96.9 Boston Talks". Have there been others and why so many changes in such little time?

They seem to do a retooling around Labor Day (like the start of a fall TV season). One year, 2007,
they rebranded (as 96.9 Boston Talks I think), website spiffing up, and Howie was to begin on 10/1/07
but it was not to be.

With the changes in the talk radio landscape this could just be a slogan change, etc. I don't know if they would pick up the displaced shows from 1200 (or get Ingrham back etc) but they figure some people may start to check them out now.

If they put Laura Ingram back on, they should think of putting her on at 9am, not at 7pm. Her show is supposed to be on LIVE 9am eastern Time
I was about to think, ??? you think they might try Geraldo Show on their station?
I think they should try that?, or
they should put "Warren Ballentine" 10a,-1pm, and 1pm-3pm Doug Meein. That'd be cool if they wdid that. Warren's show is pretty well.

There are a lot of syndie hosts currently not heard. I wonder if some Cumulus "names" will wind up at WTKK
or elsewhere. Acc to Wikipedia they have Mark Levin (ex 1200, 96.9), Imus (you can still hear it on 970 out of Portland ME), Batchelor (96.9), Red Eye (soon to go off RKO unless they carry weekend version?),
Huckabee (may be on WCRN?) and the new Geraldo show

>>2:01 pm, August 12th, 2012Geraldo Rivera‘s radio show, Geraldo
(which broadcasts from WABC-AM) is going national starting tomorrow
across 54 Cumulus Media stations. Along his way, Rivera’s knocking Glenn Beck off about a dozen of those stations.

They wouldn't take E&B's 9-10 hr away. Also the idea of having Meehan is to be local during the day.

(Clear Channel show hosts now not on in Boston: Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Andy Dean.
Dennis Miller from Dial Global I think is on RKO but weekends only. DG's Stephanie Miller, Thom
Hartmann, and Ed Schulz are also missing.)

Could be a minor tweak upcoming like a new on-air identity (96.9 Boston? 96.9Now? NewsTalk96.9?) Greater may be doing half decently with what they have now, may pick up
or lose a program, etc. Usually this time of yr (going into the fall) they do a bit of a tweak
of slogan, lineup change etc. (We know RKO's lineup changes tomorrow, 1200 is now gone etc.)

The facebook page header has changed. Now an overhead shot of Boston. (Some think
a rumor of a music format... "Now"...?)
I would think they'd stay talk, maybe putting the word "news" in to emphasize their
newscasts but mostly they mean they TALK about the news. The talk is the most important part of course. As RKO used to say news you'll talk about all day long.

Katz? (Maybe) Severin? (Would guess not!) I don't know how satisfied they are with
Meehan or the nighttime shows (prob are satisfied with E&B and Graham, whose contracts extend into next year). The following syndie hosts would be available if, say, they decided to put them on in tape delay etc.
Conservative:
Glenn Beck
The various Salem hosts like Dennis Praeger, M. Medved
Sean Hannity--had carried before
Levin--ditto

Dial Global has Dennis Miller on RKO but only on weekends. Would they offer him to
TKK for a daily airing (at night though)?
Late night: Redeye Radio might be avail unless RKO continues it weekends only. Jim
Bohannon. Currently they run Overnight America but who knows they could shoehorn
a couple hours of the above shows in

Prog talk: Doubtful but who knows. Ed Schulz, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann etc.
Unless we're being led astray, 1510 could be going to NBC Sports by about Labor Day...
and I don't know if even Jeff Santos would continue there. (maybe, brokered time
but mostly sports)

Obviously local is key.
(I guess Meehan is pre-empted once a wk by the Andlemans, isn't he?)

thanks for info! So a bit more of an accent on having news etc

just heard at top of hour:
>>"Connecting you to Boston New England and the world 969bostontalks.com. Your news, now"

Prob not much of a real change other than accenting the news, traffic etc. They may try to pick up
the disaffected 1200 and even RKO listeners (i.e., some may have liked Michelle afternoons on RKO--
now gone to mornings, and if they don't like Rush they may try Smrc on 96.9 etc.)

Agreed. It's not the Masked Man's fault that speculation is so often more interesting than what actually happens with this sleeping giant of a medium.

With traffic and weather every 15 minutes from the WTKK 24-hour Newsroom.

Where is this bustling center of non-stop information? I'm guessing it's a cubicle at Metro Traffic! ;D

Here is what is confusing to me. At the TOH within the legal ID they call themselves "News/Talk 96.9". But elsewhere they are still using "96.9 Boston Talks". I am not a big fan of inconsistency when it comes to station imaging. Are they replacing all production with "News/Talk 96.9" and are in the process of that or will they continue to call themselves both? Doesn't make a ton of sense to me and sends mixed messages.

I heard both also this morning @Rockcaptain. Also, those new Update News Reporters sound like the same ones who's on W R K O. I could be wrong, but I do recall hearing some of them on
W R K O.
