Changing Radio

Seattle Radio is undergoing its biggest change in years and I am thrilled to be back in town to watch it. The days of KMPS, KIRO, KUBE, KBSG, BobRivers, Ichabod, Kent and Alan are about to disappear. The END, KBKS and KLSY are already gone or close to it. Enter a new wave of radio: BJ Shea will own men, Fitz and the WOLF own country (just look at March numbers) MOVIN will put the nail in the grave of KBKS and KPLZ while grabbing KUBE's upper end. KOMO has already destroyed KIRO, can you believe KIRO's afternoon show? Aren't those the guys that bombed in Seattle just a couple of years ago. The new players are KISW, JACK, MOVIN, KOMO on the AM dial and WOLF. The big morning shows will be BJ Shea, FITZ, KOMO for the old folk and T-Man for the kids. Satellite radio is already dead, hell even Stern is doing a deal with Citadel to get back on the real airwaves. Change is a comin and I love it.

Don't wanna burst yer bubble Bubba, but I beg to differ....Until Seattle radio's BEST either hang up their mics - or croak beforehand,- expect 'em to keep on doin' what they do best.

WOW !!! Bold comments. I don't think that Kent and Allen are going anywhere unless theydecide to. They are the heritage am show with a loyal audience and have been solid for decades !MOViN may just grab that upper end from KUBE and some from KBKS time will tell if they do it right. Too early right now. They should get a nice kiss in the trends / book but let's see what happens over a 4 book period then make some bold comments ok.KIRO finally got them a lineup that may stop the Tom Petty "Free Fallin" action - Ross back in the am, Ron and Don are going to be great for pm drive so that there could be the real battle to watch. Please put the crack pipe down and step away from the lighter cuz JACK is DEAD !!! it was fun for a moment but the latest numbers were about as good as the old KLSY PLEASE !!! And I think they did better - As you look around the country JACK is wack. The two things you do make a good point on are A:KKWF - the last book was freakin great for them ! Good things are happening there they sure took the ol $h!t kickers to KMPS boy howdy ~B: BJ $hea - keeping the local audience and doing a great job. THAT is the real story there. As everyone else around the country floundered w/ Roth or whoever BJ came up big and proved he was a real player !

Agree with boaz on the K&A assessment. These guys are like the Energizer bunny - they keep going and going and bringing in boatloads of cash to Fisher. As for Movin - I don't see a lot of KUBE listeners defecting - but KBKS's upper end is definitely vulnerable right now. Star should be OK, but KWJZ and KRWM might be affected. As long as the ears stay within the same cluster, right? :)

Wow! If I had a dollar for everytime someone on this Board said Bob Rivers, Ichabod and Kent and Alan are finished I would be a wealthy man. Wealthier if I had a dollar for everytime KMPS, KIRO, KPLZ and KUBE are pronounced dead. It is four book averages that count. Anyone can win a trend or a book or two, advertisers want LONG-TERM players. Let me reflect on predictions of the past. Bob Rivers was pronounced dead when Stern came to town, when Andy Savage went to K-ROCK. Bob continues will solid male numbers. Kent and Alan were pronounced dead when Jackie and Bender came on, then Mitch and Lisa. Kent and Alan continue with solid female numbers. Ichabod was pronounced dead when Young Country came on and now WOLF. Folks, the WOLF did well only in the March trend and Ichabod beat the mornings easily. KIRO mornings, while off, still dominate the AM dial and KUBE still owns younger demographics. How can KPLZ be a loser, when their competitor gave up after years of trying? How can Rivers be a loser when his numbers are going up? Advertisers look at these people as winners. The WOLF is a solid station, but give it four books to see if it can surpass KMPS. KOMO is a solid AM station, but KIRO continues to beat them 25-54 outside of Mariners. BJ Shea is doing better than Stern replacements, but the 25-54 demo has been cut in half and is dropping, while Rivers is going up. Movin hasn't even had a trend yet. I hope these stations and talent will find four book success, it will create more places for agencies to place business. To say they will beat the established talent and stations will be decided in a year or two, not a trend or two.

Looking at Kube's #'s the highest rated day party is Shelly's Ol'Skool Lunch - Sandusky was wise to go in that direction mixing some rythmic currerents and gold. True the 4 book average is what is key. Have heard that stations in Chicago, Tampa, and Dallas may be taking a look at this style of format be it Burns or a knock off version.Regardless it will prove to be an interesting next few months there in PNW !!! Have fun kids ! I will enjoy watching it unfold !
