Channel 106.7 ?

We have three Top 40 stations. 92.1, 96.9 and 99.3. Top 40 radio is not exactly at the peak of its popularity so I wouldn't go there. I would suggest a rock leaning Hot AC with tunes from the 90's to present. That format will not have any effect on WQXA. and it could compete with the RIver.

Well see

Lets face it, The X is not Alternative, every other song is Aerosmith or AC/DC - I moved away from this area in 1996 and there was one station that came close to an alternative station Starview 92.7. I moved back to Lancaster in 2009 from Pittsburgh where we had an excellent Alternative format - 105.9 The X. I crave a station that won't dig out Jump by Van Halen after playing the one and only Tool song on their playlist. I've never heard Bob Marley on 105.7. I try to get 104.5 out of Philly as much as I can but it's just too far away. This area is just full of 70s, 80s, 90s and today, or simply an oldies format. Or, if I wanted to listen to country, there's plenty to choose from. If I want AC/Hot AC, they're a dime a dozen. Check out how well FM Talk radio is doing on NewsTalk 104.7 in Pittsburgh - when they first switched, everyone said they'd be playing jazz again in a year. Well, they've shaken up KDKA-AM so much that they just renamed a station on FM to all sports KDKA-FM to try to compete with the News Talk. I suggested this months ago when the rumors of WARM 103 was going to do an imminent format switch that an all talk FM in this area is long overdue. So, my hopeful top 2 formats that are lacking in this area are a true Alternative station or an FM Talk station.

WQXA-FM had an Alternative / Modern Rock format between 1995 and 1997, as 1057 The Edge (The X launched as an Active Rocker in '97). Solid Rock 92.7 Starview was an Active Rocker between 1993 and 1996; we spun Rock, Metal and Alternative hits. 8)

I don't listen to radio much anymore, but my wife does. She says MIX was playing all music, spots and.... promos for Rick & Diane in the morning. What's up with that?

I thought of talk too, problem is Clear Channel has all the main national shows tied up on 580, and there is no way Citadel's going to spend the money to do local talk.

I was listening also and heard that, I think maybee they didnt get the axe, and are there to stay, will know soon enough, probably by the end of the day????]

The entire staff got axed but word is they would get special consideration for another position opened up in the cluster. If i'm not mistaken that announcement was already made today.

And it's not classic rock. Contemporary hits from 1988 to 2003. Jay Z and Snoop here we come.

What a waste of a class b stick. I'm very sorry to hear about the staff. I was a listener and thought Rick, Diane, and John did a great job.. Granted.....the ratings were not good and something HAD to be done. But why this? My guess.....a consultant told them they could execute this format without air personalities.....and that sounded great to FARID.

I can see this station eventually morphing into a "90s and Now" Hot AC. My wife is in their target demo, and the first thing she asked me was "are they playing any newer music?". It seems that these types of stations eventually do that. For example, 96.5 The Point in Philadelphia started out in 2000 playing all 80s. Eventually, they added in 90s music and today's music. The same goes for Alice 104.5 in Philadelphia. They started out in 1999 playing "Rockin' Hits of the 80s, 90s, and 70s". 3 years later, they were basically a Hot AC. Unless their ratings respond well with the 90s music, I'd bet we'll hear newer music at some point on 106.7. Time will tell.

Magnum..I agree. As great and fresh as this music sounds now, it will eventually burn. So yes, expanding more into the 00s and newer songs will happen.

WNNK------Are you paying attention?

I think the station that will benefit most from this format change will be the River. Their loss of dominance seemed to happen around the time MIX moved from soft AC to Classic hits. A lot of places I used to hear The River exclusively I then heard MIX. They managed to shave a share and a half off of WRVV.

I read a lot of speculation about what it would be...and...I think it sounds completely different than anything else on the dial right now so that's a good thing. Not really something I would listen to but my wife (36) seems to love it. Will it burn? Maybe...but not before it starts impacting WINK, HOT, 'LAN, WARM, 'TPA and the X to a certain degree especially if given some sort of marketing support via TV or Billboards.

No marketing=No win.

Word of mouth will only take you so far.

This could be a good thing for local radio. If they do spend money to make it work. Others will have to follow by ponying up to keep up. When was the last time we saw any real station marketing outside of a few trade spots? Unfortunately, other stations may look for that "marketing" money at the expense of more jobs and then?...not so good for local radio.

Seltzer...regardless of whether you've ever worked in radio or not. I think your posts always sound well informed and well thought out. Why is Radio Babe targeting you so much this past week?

I appreciate the kind words winkerfunk. One listener's perspective who knows some people in the industry who are kind enough to occasionally give me a look behind "the secret door." Don't know Radio Babe. I assume by that name she must work at a station somewhere. No idea.

a) unless they hire local on-air talent
b) until the format itself is duplicated across the country and faces burnout possibility (Jammin' Oldies, anyone?)
