Channel 8 Interview with Russ

Dang... guess we need to add a few to the list of "classless"

Janet St. James
WFAA
Ed Bark
Richie Whitt (http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/sportatorium/2009/01/russ_martin_gives_30000_to_fal.php)

What a crude and classless cast of characters all seemingly in on selling you all the demon in disguise that is Russ Martin.

nah - it's more fun to spin yarns of thievery and depict with words like "reportedly" and "alledgedly" from anonymous and unknown sources.. lol

I guess if I qualify a statement with its from an anonymous source and use words like "reportedly" and "alledgedly" I can say anything I want about someone too!!! Never let the truth get in the way of grinding an axe!

Gotta love the russ fans walking through life with Ray-Bans on all hours of a given day with a rose tint and a bottle of febreeze.

Apparently there a few folks wanting to know what happened, it got WFAA good ratings and all they did was a 60 second "fluff" piece as some call it. Looks like he still has an audience that want to still hear him and or about him.

I saw that on Uncle Barky too. It's very much more likely that the Barbara Walters interview with Patrick Swayze brought in more viewers to the news. I highly doubt the Russ Martin interview was the draw. Patrick Swayze has a huge female audience (Ghost and Dirty Dancing) and likely a large male audience as well. Plus Mr. Swayze is fighting cancer so many are eager for news in that regard. Mr. Martin has his followers but I find it absurd to give him sole credit the for increased ratings. I thought Mr. Bark has more "common sense" than that.

The newscast drew 458,367 D-FW viewers following the Walters special, which had 292,292 viewers in dominating its 9 p.m. time slot.

It's obvious the newscast had a ton of viewers. But Uncle Barky fails to mention if, and how much, of an increase that is over a normal 10pm newscast.

I looked through his archive, and though it is often mentioned that News 8 has won the timeslot, I couldn't find any other numbers.

So if anyone knows. What are the averages for News 8 at 10pm?

Still, it was by and large entertaining, with a playful St. James more or less impersonating Becky Oliver/Brett Shipp/Bennett Cunningham by scurrying after Martin while asking, "Russ, why won't you talk to us? What are you afraid of?"

And as I said in a previous post, the story was staged. Where is the journalistic integrity of playing into a Russ Martin "bit". Nice job News 8. I seem to remember something I was told in journalism school.
Something about crossing the lines between reporting on the news and "making" the news.
I forget.

Uncle Barky did indeed blow the analysis of that one. The Walters interview was a good lead, and thats where the news benefited. Ch.8 as I have said before is stealing pages from FOX" ( the music bed for the DPD story was a bit overboard) and hyping non-stories.6 more months Russ will be gone from any pertinent discussion, and long overdue. No station that wants to maintain some integrity and credibility in DFW would want him behind their Mic.

Anybody have any friends a that were a part of a KEGL - Lex and Terry focus group ?

CC may already have done homework on if or where to put RMS.

Sorry if this is already posted - i didn't read though the 5 pages.

Christ people first of all why is it the interview was "Staged" everyone who can read or listen knew Russ would be there that day at some point for a concert that evening, as far as "sitting" on the interview, its possible he strongly asked it not be aired and they convinced him to air it after the office was killed. Yeah they had a pic of the check, check the website every check that has been sent in the last 4 or 5 years is there. Why would he do that, well I don't know maybe to prove the money is being given for the purpose its intended, with all the negative people in the world, I'd be scanning a copy of the check as well. I think if Russ really cared that much about not being in "the spotlight" he'd be giving lots of interviews, doing lots of concerts. As far as waaaa he is difficult to work with, radio personalities all have big egos, its why they are successful, if you get great ratings (And he definitely does that), thats all that matters to a station. I think its an understatement to say Russ had been a lot darker even for Russ Martin, and along with that and the format change (which happened at other CBS stations about the same time, love how people ignore the facts) the time off will probably do him a lot of good hopefully. Since its all about money he will be back on the air in Dallas, it won't be with any CBS station though, I'm sure Russ is done with CBS short of cashing his paycheck every two weeks...

'scuse me, but wasn't the IRS and some "REPORTED" connection to the foundation a topic of discussion on this board when the "false arrest" was made back in July or August? I'm strictly referring to that. There's a "search" function at the top of the page if you'd like to do your homework. Really, there's no need to make up a thing here...there's plenty of factual stuff to work with already. I'm sorry if your hero has been taken to task. I know HE would never do that to anyone himself, right?

I used to be that passionate about Stern, so I can understand some of this nutty hero worship...but I did get over it. (Then again, Merge, if you're still hung up on a radio format that died over 7 years ago, then it may take counseling.) :-\

No, for two reasons:

1. Russ is now a PR disaster, due to his legal issues

2. No station will pay him a 7 figure salary, much less a 6 figure salary, which is the amount of money he would insist on.

Martin's career on the radio is finished... done... gone bye-bye... history... toast...

If he gets convicted for the charges he's facing, that will be the final nail in the coffin.

Yea - discussion of rumors on this board - yea - that's a great source!!! Kinda like relying on the Huffington Post to get all your news... ::)

And for the record, I'm not hung up on the show, the host, the format or the station. I just like pointing out the irony of people here. Its funny to watch logic, common sense and apparently self awareness fly out the window for some people when they have an axe to grind.

Hung up on it, I mean its not like I pay for airtime on an AM station to talk about radio from the past.....

Hey Merge,

Just a question. What do you do for a living?

BGH

I am in telecommunications/networking. I spend a LOT of my time in a cubicle.

Poor you... Humans were not meant to sit in cubicles all day.

"Yeah, I just stare at my desk; but it looks like I'm working. I do that for probably another hour after lunch, too. I'd say in a given week I probably only do about fifteen minutes of real, actual, work. "

"I don't know, I guess. Listen, I'm gonna go. It's been really nice talking to both of you guys.

Good luck with your layoffs, all right? I hope your firings go really well"

that was odd.... it still fit rather well...

Haha. I've been reading these boards for a little while now and rarely do I actually get a little giggle, but the Office Space dialogue finally did it! Cheers ;D

My guess.... is that he'll just be moving to Montana soon....
