Channel 95.5 Ratings

But amp kind of made 955 change and I don't like that change. I agree that they do need more mainstream rap. That would put them back into the right place. And also another suggestion is to maybe play some older hits once and awhile, like ones played in 2006-2009. Thats when I really was into music and I think the best songs were out. ESPECIALLY for the mainstream rap.

I'm sorry, but mainstream rap does NOT belong on a CHR station. It didn't belong on Channel 9-5-5 in the mid '00s, and it doesn't belong there now. If you want mainstream rap, I think you'd need to switch to WJLB or Hot 102.7. Yes?

Sorry but 955 was way better when they would play some mainstream rap. They would play Cyclone,Whatever You like, and all those types of songs on a normal basis... Many people in Michigan like that type of music. Most teens now adays listen to it and much of the population does here. Why were ratings so great back than? Because they played Pop & Rap hits. If people wanted pop hits without the rap they would go to 963

Also 102.7 in my opinion can be better than WJLB... WJLB plays to many slow hits, while Hot 1027 tends to play a more rhythemic rap. Plus 102.7 will play MANY local artist songs, such as their own Shorty da prince.

I think 9-5-5 still sounds great now, they still play a large amount of hip-hop. Not to mention they finally got rid of all Premium Choice content (Club Kane is gone too I believe).

They got rid of Club Kane earlier in July and moved My Cuzin's Radio Show to that time slot. I think 9-5-5 does sound great (especially with their commercial-free hours they have five times a day), but if they want to increase their ratings, they need to work on adding newer music faster than the competition. Don't be afraid to add new music; TAKE A RISK EVERY NOW AND THEN

WKQI ratings really don't look that great - they're 16th now 6+ share, down 3.8-3.3

Maybe metro Detroit teens have grown out of listening to top 40 or probably radio in general. AMP is #13 with a 3.5.

Yeah, that can be the case. There's so many alternatives out there (ex.: iHeartRadio, iPod, Pandora, etc.) that most teens rarely listen to the radio, only to find/discover new songs if anything. Really the only ones that listen to radio is-- virtually-- us.

What 955 really is in need of is MORE commercial free hours and more Contests! I am a fan of Amp radio on Facebook and they are CONSTANTLY posting about new contests.... 955 is doing that iheartradio ticket contest and a few Ticket tags.. But they need to give out more local concert tickets.... Even better give out CASH, where they just have to call to win when stated.

Also 955 I beleive still has premium programming Monday Morning 2-5 AM after the live broadcast from Tonic. They have that dating advice guy on, I forgot his name.

You mean Dawson McAllister? He helps out teens dealing with personal issues. I don't see who would be listening to him that late, plus he's been on there since 2009 I believe. I don't mind him though, at least he's helping people.

Hmm, probably there's not many local concerts in the area to promote?

I love when people post things like this when it is so not true. If anything, radio is booming nowadays. Believe it or not, this is the biggest radio has been within the last twenty years. More and more people are turning to the radio once again. Things like Pandora, Ipods and other music services can only go so far before people get bored with it.

97% of americans tune into radio each week. Radio is far from a dying industry, in fact, all this technology benefits radio, Especially when it comes to all these new radio apps for phones or MP3 players. Suddenly people are listening to the radio on their phones. Radio is not going anywhere.

And when you say teens are not tuning into the radio, think again. Teens are actually listening to radio more then ever before. I guess they are getting bored with their Iphones and Grooveshark.

I've come to tolerate Dawson McAllister. He's helping teenagers out with their problems, which is a plus, but why is he on THAT late? Maybe put him on Sunday mornings from, say like, 7-10 a.m. or some variation of it. Maybe move AT 40 to Saturday mornings (just a thought)

Or drop him completley. He just does not fit the station whatsoever.

If that's the case, maybe KQI (and Amp) shouldn't just be targeting teens

In most major markets, CHRs are among the highest rated stations in the metro, so I'm not sure why Detroit teens would feel differently towards radio than teens in the rest of the country

I don't seem to understand why Rap (while we're on the subject), in your opinion, doesn't belong on a CHR station, especially in a market where a good majority of its population are made up of African-American residents in and around the Metro Detroit area. If anything, it's all about what your target audience 18-34 (and also 25-54) wants; if Rap is the hottest thing and everyone wants to hear the latest from artists such as Lil' Wayne and Jay-Z, then as a station, you would want to give the listening audience what it (virtually) ask for.

Would you rather have a station that caters to the audience's tastes or a centralized play list where the top five songs on the charts receive NO airplay whatsoever (in other words, would you have Clear Channel or Cumulus' approach to CHR)?

CHR does have a lot of hip-hop and "light" rap, and that's fine. It's the hardcore "gangsta" rap that doesn't belong on CHR stations. Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, etc. are more hip-hop than "mainstream rap" in my opinion. I was glad when Amp Radio came about because it caused 9-5-5 to balance out its rap with more pop-type songs. I couldn't stand how, in the mid '00s, the only option Detroit CHR listeners had was a station that played way too much hardcore rap.

I'm not quite sure which side of the fence I'm on with this discussion. I do tend to think that people consider me to be old-fashioned when I tell them I actually enjoy listening to FM radio. But yes... I suppose it's possible that people have more options to get their radio fix. :)

I mean, to me, you can't use technology as an excuse for low ratings - technology certainly isn't hurting Z100, KIIS, KHKS, WXKS, or tons of other major market CHRs which are topping their markets

Myself I may only turn on the radio and listen to stations while riding in the car... When I am in the house I only turn on the radio to Channel 95.5 during their Mixshow session because to me thats when they sound the best. One the music is better, Two they play a lot of new stuff & older stuff not usually played. Three the DJ's are awesome at what they do..

I agree. I love their mixshows, especially the Ministry of House on Saturday nights. But to be fair, mixshos alone won't regain ratings. Everybody on the on-air roster (ESPECIALLY JAG AND JOE ROSATI....more on that later) has to step it up big time or else AMP will easily win next month's book as well (and I honestly, with respect to WDZH, do not want to see that happen)

What do you mean by step it up? You seem to say that a lot on this board, and I'm curious.

Joe is doing a heck of a job on and off air at Channel. The guy knows his stuff and is a very talented jock.

Ehh...I feel like 90% of Clear Channel CHRs play essentially the same stuff

I'd rather have Entercom's approach to CHR
