Lots happening here locally, albeit from two broadcasters.
Mix 96 has repositioned itself yet again to, "Modern Hits", leaving 95SX as the lone CHR in town again. I'm sure this corresponds to the return of "Two Girls & a Guy" in the mornings, along with 'The guy" being the new PD. I do believe the station he came from in Portland, OR was a modern hits-type station as well. Also using the word "alternative" quite a bit in their positioners. I guess no more Iggy Azalea on 95.5. 2GG seems to be off to a reasonable good stat this morning, although the talk blocks are spaced a bit too far out.
As for Sinclair & the heinous act they're committing against WCIV, it seems to me that since Charleston is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation, someone would swoop in & make Sinclair a "decent" offer for the former Allbritton facilities. Some on other broadcasting boards have speculated that Scripps, Hearst or Gannett should take 4, but that's not where the value is...it's in the ABC affiliation. The three aforementioned groups won't come into TV market #98(96? what is it now?) and buy what would amount to an independent station. It's also been made clear this market is too small to support a duopoly (which I find weird, as Jacksonville can support TWO duopolies at market #47). It would be nice to see a local group of broadcasters/investors (Maybe Apex? Evening Post group?, Charleston CVB?) come & save 4. This market really can't afford to lose a large OTA signal. I'm hoping the FCC will step in & tell Sinclair to find a buyer for 4, or the sale won't be allowed to go through (same deal in Birmingham). The FCC brass has already chastised Sinclair for their business practices. Maybe it's time to simply deny the sale of Allbritton to Sinclair? On a personal & unrelated note...why wont someone do a local weather channel on their .3? In Savannah, MG's WSAV has a great weather service on .3, I see no reason why sister station WCBD couldn't do one; maybe even have WSAV program it for them to save costs? Live 5 really should be doing one, as Live 5+ is....just dumb.
We are an under-radio'ed market, about to become under-TV'ed.
