Charlie Manning to replace Rush on WRKO

Indeed...I figured they would either go local w someone like Avi Nelson, or do syndie like Dennis Miller--they run a best of DM on weekends. Maybe if Manning is off they could pick up Dennis live that day, like how WTKK ran Hannity live as a fill in for Jay

Yes!!! This is a great choice by WRKO! WRKO is keeping Ingraham so they still have a quality national show but they are going local against Limbaugh. For one of the first times ever, nice job Entercom Boston. And, nice job chooing Charlie Manning.

...3/14 daylight savings start; later sunsets help signal

El Rushbo is always on during day pattern--the earliest afternoon
pattern change is 4:15 PM EST in December:

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/srsstime?dlat=42&mlat=17&slat=20.00&dlon=71&mlon=11&slon=21.00&tzone=A

As for the station as a whole, when you gain an hour in the evening
(March goes from a 5:45 to 6:45 PM pattern change when DST hits)
you also lose an hour of "daytime" during morning drive, with pattern
change going from 6:00 to 7:00 AM starting March 14.

You're kidding right? You must work for TKK or 1200 because they are the only one's who like this besides the Manning Family. Car insurance compainies should quickly put in a triple deuctable fee for anyone who falls asleep and drives off the road during this latest addition to WRKO's version of Sominex radio. If you make it through Tom And Todd's boring -ass predictable pillow talk, then by god guzzle down a few gallons of espresso before tuning in to what promises to be RKO's biggest mistake since bringing in Todd to make Tom's show worse.

If we had a little more notice, we could have headed over to some nice little bar near Guest Street and held a good irish wake for WRKO, since today was the last day they are going to have Howie and Rush together.

It's all down hill from here kids, the patient is now on life support.

What are they going to air until Monday?

Avi Nelson is in for Howie W/Th/F

Rush will be done with new shows on Friday, I don't know if they will run the contractually obligated Saturday show this week, I don't know if Premier's week ends on Friday or Saturday WRT Rush.

Manning is a LOCAL talker. I do not like Tom Finnerman just like you, but I think Manning will actually do well on WRKO, hopefully beating WTKK. I am someone who is interested in radio but I certainly do not work for 1200 or WTKK. Can't I be allowed to compliment WRKO on what I think is a good decision?

re daylight savings: I meant that will affect reception of Hannity, etc. and I did think of how they would
lose some morning signal but so far we don't even know what they're running in AM drive yet

Manning: May not be radio-voiced for some people but who knows, I may prefer him to Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'm
Michael Graham and Severin's first hour. We'll see

It might be good for the other sindy shows on RKO since they won't be thinking about dumping Ingraham and Savage now that they don't have Rush. And when Manning does eventually crash it'll be yet another example that this town has NO local talent of any quality.

So here's Entercom's explanation for their choice of Charley Manning: . "Charley Manning brings top-notch insight and great credibility to us at a time when Boston politics are so intense and top of mind.''

He's a Republican operative with NO EXPERIENCE IN RADIO.

I have been seeing people on this board INSIST that radio owners and managers choose conservative talkers over progressive talkers because "conservative talkers don't have an agenda", or "conservative talkers have a radio background and understand the business of radio", or "conservative talkers know how to be entertaining".

Wrong, he did the Spin Doctors" program with Goldman, and does fill-in work.

Down boy, down....

Picking someone conservative who is local with some radio experience, is probably as good a replacement for the king of conservative talk as anyone.

My observation and criticism stands. What was Manning's "broadcasting"experience BEFORE he co-hosted The Spin Doctors? Was he a DJ? A game show host? A weather man? Maybe NOTHING??

Why has RKO never considered having a Democratic operative co-host a show? Is a Democratic operative just not as "entertaining" as a Republican operative??

You give RKO credit for picking someone with "SOME" radio experience - in a city where EXTENSIVE experience is REQUIRED?

Please do not tell me that station owners and managers are not operating from a political idoelogical bias. It's perfectly obvious that that is EXACTLY what they are doing.
