By this point, both AC and all-oldies stations had burned a lot of oldies we would have played in the early-mid 70s to a crisp, so we scaled back the percentage of oldies (to about 30%) and played the ones with more of an "oh wow" factor.

Again, within 2 years of this aircheck, Jhani re-invented the format entirely.

Marv: I went back and looked. The last time I can find that KHJ broke a 10 share was 1969. They were into the 6s and 7s by '73, and fell into the 3s in '77.

Would anyone care to speculate as to why KRTH doesn't carry Charlie's outstanding 5-hour 70's-based oldies show?

Could it be because he plays a ton of songs from that decade that KRTH won't play for whatever reason?

6-11 PM on Saturday or Sunday makes plenty of sense, no?

It makes perfect sense....they do have a 70's at 7 slot, but it's familiars every day. The 70's and early 80's are prime right now for K-Earth's demo and they should show it by featuring more in-depth hit music.

Many stations and companies have strict policies about giving control of any inventory to third parties. Barter based shows give inventory to others and is likely not acceptable to them.

Happy birthday indeed to Charlie Tuna---absolutely.

David--What exactly is the issue regarding 'third parties' as it relates to my question as to why KRTH doesn't carry Charlie's show? If Jim Carson & Gary Bryan can have their syndicated shows airing on KRTH, why can't Charlie's show also be a part of their lineup?

Michael--Thanks for your reply regarding why KRTH probably doen't or can't carry his show. I definitely recall that anytime KRTH does their '1,001 Oldies Weekend', Charlie has in numerous instances received and aired calls from callers asking him 'Why doen't you play 'such and such a song' more often?

Tuna's answer has usually been 'Call my boss!!'.
