Charlottesville

Who knows what is going on in Charlottesville? Saga is there, Clear Channel is there, and then there seems to be a local group owner. Is this a market that can support so many radio stations?

Clear Channel is gone. They sold to Monticello in 2006. That's the local group. Its mainly Saga and Monticello. The rumor was that Monticello fired their GM last week. A little turmoil.

Both clusters have a couple of star stations and the rest of the stations for both clusters are in the pack.

Thanks Murphy! I read the MM was terminated but have no idea why. Also know that before Monticello he was the MM for Saga and guess he walked across the street. Seems the owners are looking fast and hard to replace him in the market. Can this market support all these stations?

When the economy is good, both clusters bill well from what I know. As mentioned, from a ratings standpoint, the market has some stars and then a big pack of stations. The town is somewhat unique in that it is a bit ecclectic for its size. It is a live music hub for the state with JPJ and the other venues. Keep in mind that all the big acts play there instead of Richmond. U2 and Metallica played there last fall...and JPJ has "A" level acts most every month.
