CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS DEAD LAST IN CONSUMER SURVEY

The Timkin Group polled 6000 consumers (who contacted the company seeking customer service,
support, questions, billing issues): “to what degree do you trust that these companies will take care of your needs?” Responses were scored on a scale of 1-7 — from “do not trust at all” to “completely trust.”

Here's how the telecom compaines ranked:
54. MSN
60. Cox Communications
89. Verizon Wireless (wireless)
90. T-Mobile
93. Sprint
100. AT&T (wireless)
104. AOL
106. AT&T (Internet service)
109. Cablevision
113. Time Warner Cable/Road Runner (Internet service)
120. Qwest
122. Virgin Mobile
140. Comcast
142. Charter Communications

Charter scored dead last out of 143-rated companies. Customers trashed both Charter’s Internet service (142) and their cable-TV service (143).

Couldnt agree more. I have that Charter crap in my area of Pasadena and my apartment complex doesnt allow dishes either. Im so glad I didnt renew my lease this year. Direct TV here I come.

I've never dealt with Charter, but my mom is in their service area. She refuses to use them. She has been with Dish and Direct ever since Charter had taken over the local cable company.

I'm not surprised at this considering how often they've ran their own commercials and certain Ad Council PSAs into the ground. Then again, maybe other cable companies also have this problem.

Complexs can't ban dishes. As long as its on your patio/balcony, not mounted onto the building itself and you don't drill holes through the walls for wiring then there really isn't anything that the complex can do about you installing one.

Except when they find a loophole. My HOA got around that by stating that you are not allowed to put ANYTHING on your patio besides seasonally appropriate furniture. Turns out, as long as you don't specifically state "satellite dishes", that is apparently OK.

A few other cable companies have not made the list, including Bright House, which always toot their horn about great customer service.

I used to work for a market research company that asked consumers about these companies. As I recall, Comcast consistently was rated poorly by our respondents. Charter was in our survey too but I don't remember hearing anything particularly negative about them. As for AT&T, I found they either loved them or hated them.

Verizon usually got pretty good ratings, and Cablevision was a mixed bag.

Comcast is so awful, I'd rather go without TV than deal with them. Which I do.

AT&T has great customer service but only at the second tier level. I always call support and say "Level II Tech" then lie and tell then I was told to ask for level II tech. The level II techs and higher are great, but the first line call to AT&T is pretty bad as well

Wow! Your company would have to be one steaming pile of excrement to beat out
Comcast in a survey like this!

Does anyone have Frontier for telephone or FIOS? That same link included a scathing account of the company and their customer service, which reads like it's run by "Peggy" from the Discover Card commercials.

Don't worry Charter is. I've known people while considering relocation to intentionally live in another municipality that isn't serviced by Charter just to avoid dealing with them. Comcast is craptastic, but offers decent services; meanwhile Charter is straight up f**kery at its very worst.

I just recently cancelled service with an internet provider (Clear), mainly because it was the worst customer service experience I've ever dealt with. I've had various dealings with companies like Sprint, Time Warner Cable, DirecTV, and T-Mobile through the years, and for the most part, those have been pretty pleasant. My problem with Clear, beside the shoddy internet reception (I had a Wi-Fi device), was that its customer service reps were outsourced (I knew it instantly the first time by the phone reception quality) and I found myself repeating back to them my issues constantly. Not to make this a cultural issue, but it would be nice to speak to a representative that actually speaks fluent English, and that same someone actually be based in my contury of origin.

Just a couple weeks ago, I finally got fed up with this madness, and cancelled my service. I have to pay a $106 early cancellation fee, but it'll be worth it having not to deal with those jokers again.

AT&T has this same problem at the first level. As I said, that is why I lie and say I was told to ask for Level II technicians. They transfer me immediately to a level II tech and they speak English great and I have never had an issue go on for more than 15 minutes once you get to level II technicians.

So you might try that with other companies as well

I've had some issues in the past with Charter myself.  A current issue I'm having now is, when I'm surfing the web sometimes the site I'm on will automatically jump back to the home page I have stored.  Charter is that page.  This issue began a few months ago, just before I got this new Computer, on Monday.  Now that I have this new Apple Lion Computer, what could be causing this.  Is there a fix for this?  If so, let me know.

Charter may have a poor service but I can take them over AT&T Internet any day.  AT&T had the sorriest service of any Internet provider I've ever been on.  Their connections would drop often and my phone lines would have the occasional static in them, which would slow down my connection big time.  Hence the reason why I left them.

The fix would be to change the DNS server addresses away from Charter's (Google's free DNS are located at 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) It may or may not work if Charter filters all their traffic through a head end gateway which wouldn't surprise me. If it is the latter, there is really nothing you can do.

The page you are likely getting is a default page it goes to when a domain name doesn't resolve quickly enough or even exist. Sounds like it's on a hair trigger.
