CHICAGO RADIO 2011: AN OUTLOOK

Merry Christmas (almost) everyone!

I think it appropiate to begin what the outlook for Chicago radio for 2011 will be like?

Any takers? I do think 105.9 Fresh will be flipping to Sports. Other than that, i think that's probably about it.

I agree! A simulcast of 670 The Score could land on 105.9 FM. If it happens, it would be the first established CBS AM sports station to simulcast on FM. If successful in Chicago, watch for WFAN New York to do likewise.

Merry Christmas to all! :)

That would be a huge waste of electricity and spectrum. They should either sign 670 off the air or do something else productive with it.

Don't you mean 2nd? CBS in Detroit placed WXYT on 97.1 and its doing real well.

Forgot that! Sorry! :)

Why would you sign off a blowtorch of a signal like 670? Give me a break!
.

They won't.

Agreed! WSCR won't sign off 670 AM. WFAN won't sign off 660 AM. However, they would both be helped by simulcasting on FM. :)

They may very well do the simulcast at some point, but they won't be abandoning 670 anytime in the forseeable future.

Should CBS Radio flip Jack-FM instead of Fresh? Jack just went down and I know Fresh stayed flat. The numbers that matter to CBS to compare which one is doing better is demo ratings.

They would chose to flip fresh, jack is very cheap to run with no jocks while fresh has jocks

I'm pretty sure CBS will flip Fresh... even the PD is giving Fresh a year to improve and so far it's not working.

Does that mean CBS will give till the end of 2011 to see if things improve? Or when was that statement said by the Fresh PD?

IIRC, those comments were made in July 2010, so perhaps there's still about six months for Fresh 105.9 to turn it around. If it doesn't happen, get ready for The Score on 670 AM and 105.9 FM. :)

Why the Score and not WBBM? Seems like CBS could get much better ratings and ROI on an FM simulcast of WBBM. Such an arrangement would be a monster in the ratings for many years to come - even 25-44, with much better demos than 780 gets now. The Score on FM wouldn't pull those numbers.

You guys need to get your thinking outside of that WSCR "box". WBBM on FM is less 'risky' for CBS Radio than WSCR.
