Chris Krok updates

I emailed Chris about 15 questions related to his departure from WSB-AM last week. He chose to answer none of them. So your guess is as good as mine.

I feel safe submitting this update: he's still barely interesting and hardly funny.

pls tell me this is not the leave brittny alone guy from youtube

I ask a question about what a former talk personality is doing now, and that makes me the leave britney alone guy? With that amazing display of logic you ought to be in the White House.

I'm interested to hear what Chris Krok is up to as well. I enjoyed KROKTALK on WSB. He talked about local issues and wasn't a political talking head like Boortz or Hannity!

I guess I should have said something sooner. This is former News-Talk 750 WSB KROKTALK Executive Producer, Ricky D also known as Rick diLorenzo. First off, let me say thank you to all the loyal listeners of KROKTALK with Chris Krok. Chris and I really enjoyed being your local issues forum for the past two years, but as they say, all good things must come to an end.

WSB is an amazing station with an amazing staff. I feel very honored having worked for Pete Spriggs and Condace Pressely and with Chris Camp, Kerry Browning and the rest of the WSB News Team. Scott Slade, Neal Boortz, Clark Howard, Herman Cainand their respective staffs were a joy to work with as well. I also want to thank all the WSB board operators who did a fantastic job with the show and of course our primary fill-in host, Mark Arum who is an amazing talent.

To give you an update, Chris is looking to take KROKTALK to another radio station in this great land that we call the U.S.A. As soon as i know where, I will make sure to let you all know.

As for me, I have lived in Atlanta since the fall of 1991 and in the Atlanta radio market since the spring of 1995 when I first worked as a board operator at the Georgia Radio Reading Service. In the spring of 1997, Nancy Zintak and Mike Rose decided to take a chance on me when they began something, dare I say, "PLANET RADIO, Life support for busy people, on WGST, 640 AM and 105.7 FM." They started me out as a weekend board op and by the winter of 2004, I was promoted to Assistant Progam Director of WGST and Executive Producer of Atlanta's First News with Tom Hughes. I was in the first group of WGST layoffs in December of 2005 along with News people, Kari Dean, Chris Bailey and Beverly Heiken, Imaging Director, Chris Pendl and the resignation of the Kimmer's News Maker Line Guy, Jim Gossett.

I was very fortunate to be in the right place at the right time in January of 2006 when WSB decided to develop a new night time talkshow, KROKTALK with Chris Krok. Once again, it was an honor to serve at a station with such a rich heritage. I will forever be greatful for having worked at such an outstanding place, with a terrific management team and staff.

At present, I have decided after a dozen years to hang up the microphone, but continue to where a headset as I pursue a new career in Inside Sales and Customer Service with McMaster-Carr Supply Company, the WSB of industrial supplies. While I will miss radio, I look forward to being able to spend the evenings, wekends and holidays with my beautiful wife and two young sons. Thank you Atlanta for a dozen years of great times and experiences in a semi-public position.

Warm regards,

Ricky D aka Eannie Meannie aka Rick diLorenzo

IMO he would be a great fit on WGKA, maybe WNIV.

Problem is, WGKA doesn't have any room except on weekends and Salem probably doesn't want to produce a local show to begin with.

He might not be religious enough for WNIV (imagine Dave Ramsey on WNIV and you'll see what I am talking about), plus WNIV's weekday sked is all short, mostly 30 minute to 1 hour programs. Some of those are repeats, though, if Salem wanted to chance it and squeeze him in instead of the repeats.

There's time on the weekends on both stations, and Krok would be better than the brokered garbage Salem slings on the weekends. Problem is, Salem makes a lot of money on that brokered stuff and I don't know if Krok's ad bucks would be more as he's still a very small player (albeit a very talented one).

Night isn't really an option, with WGKA barely getting OTP, WNIV (970) having no night signal to speak of, and WLTA (1400) sharing a class C local channel with boatloads of skywave chop from everyone else on the channel.

I spoke with Chris out at Al Peterson's TMC. He is doing well and working very hard to find another station around the country to pick up KrokTalk.

To the guy who thinks he would fit well at WNIV, I think you are very mistaken.

WGKA would be ok, except their signal is way too small and not sure what kind of market Chris could pick up.

Chris would actually work really well on the The Eagle FM Talker if they went that route. Imagine opening the day with Imus and closing the day with Krok. Not too bad. But Eagle doesn't appear to be going the full FM Talker route and just doing Imus and then going Oldies (which to me seems like is a royally stupid move).

All this to say, Chris is probably going to have to leave Atlanta.

I'm glad to hear Krock is doing well and think that he did some great things for the community.

That being said, I'm surprised that he lasted as long as he did at WSB. The last couple of months were so bad I found myself turning him off because it seemed like it was the same topic over and over on old news that he covered months before. It seemed like he took less and less calls in between his ranting and raving. One night I noticed he didn't take his first call until 11:45; 1 hour and 45 minutes after his show started.

I wish him the best but you are right in Chris probably having to leave Atlanta.
