Chris Singleton

joins Ed Farmer in the White Sox broadcast booth. According to Feder's column in the SUN TIMES today, he was signed to a five year deal.

Sounds like the Score is still trying to get by on the cheap, instead of Sox legend and veteran broadcaster Tommy John, they went with the inexpierienced Singleton. Hope it works out.

I'm not optimistic. Farmer is OK as a color guy, but when doing play-by-play tends to leave me wondering what's going on. Not real good. Now they're pairing him with someone who's completely inexperienced...and who, like Farmer when he was the "analyst," will probably get a couple of innings per game of play-by-play. I wish them luck.

It is very hard to believe that this is a franchise that is the World Champs judging by the broadcast team. Farmer has done color but has not done PBP. The color guy has hosted a talk show but never been in the booth. And to top it off you have a guy hosting pre and post who has never done an interview show before. Sounds like a rookie train wreck to me not like a World Champion organization. I don't know if this rookie experiment is the work of the Score or the Sox but somone has some splainin to do. I look forward to the Cubs season even more now.

"I look forward to the Cubs season even more now".

Nice to see someone not afraid to show how little it takes to excite them.

Hurrah! Pray for the perrenial LOSERS. Bad season, raise prices, the mindless will pay.

I wish I could say that Santo was better, but I can't. Maybe others can, but not me.

OK guys, let's not turn this into a Cubs vs. Sox thing. (I might as well say I'm a Cubs fan, BTW.)
I haven't heard Chris Singleton. I don't know how he'll do. But Ed Farmer on play-by-play ... oy. Worst-case scenario is that the Sox radio broadcasts become as amateurish and homerish as the TV broadcasts. My guess for best-case is the radio broadcasts are average, but no better than Pat and Ron.
My take on Santo - it's good to hear him at the start of the season, kind of like seeing a long-lost uncle for the first time since fall. A month or two into the season, well, ya know.

I think Pat is plenty solid on PBP, and it's part of their shtick that Ron is totally unpolished. I'll never forget the call the day Brant Brown dropped what would have been the the playoff clinching fly ball a few years ago:

Pat: He dropped the ball!!
Ron: Oh noooooooooooooooo! Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Fortunately for Ron, the Cubs clinched the playoffs the next day.

The entire discussion is moot. Who can forget Harry calling Rafael Palmeiro Ralph Palermo or Rhyn Sandberg Ryan Sandbag - just to name a few. While it may have been one too many Falstaff's, even the great ones aren't polished all the time. If we're going to judge then judge all not just the one on the team you're not a fan of.
