Christmas Day Snowstorm coverage in the Piedmont Triad

What are some opinions of the Snow Storm coverage here in the Piedmont Triad? It looks like some the TV stations really dropped the ball. Yesterday, some were saying that this WOULD NOT be a major snowstorm-LOL. I haven`t listened to the radio in the last couple of days... how is the coverage on there? Now, they are saying that the snow will continue falling in Winston-Salem until late Sunday Night!!

On this special night, our cellphones are turned off. Our bosses KNOW they can't reach us to order us to come in and cover the weather. We are in the middle of our holiday revelry and besides, this area has not had a white Christmas since 1947.

Just wait until the calendar reads December 26, and some of us will report in and make much of our weather anomaly. We'll just plan better coverage for Christmas 2011.

I was planning some great wall-to-wall coverage, but then my PD came into my office and said, "SCRAP IT! WE'RE FLIPPING TO OLDIES!"
 
WGHP-8 Takes the Cake!! hey that rhymed! They had No live coverage all day on the weather.. Van Denton posted something last night that said, he was traveling and would not be able to update his forecast this morning and that Charles Ewing would have all the details on the 6 o'clock News! How sorry is that! Public Interest, my ass.. Close down the silly operation! 12 had updates every hour.. 8 claimed they had nobody to work.. Maybe the next time license renewal comes up, they can find some people!

I agree with Big Ape!!! Time Warner TV 14 almost makes me feel sorry for the people working there! Most of the anchors are VERY young, seem scared or stressed on camera. Also, they read the same 2 stories over and over again..... Notice some of the guys with grease/ 80`s moose on there-LOL. There is one lady that has a Meredith Mac Rae (Petticoat Junction) hairdoo from 1968-cool! WGHP-TV 8 Fox was a joke for the weather today!!! Nobody was there!!! The poor weekend guy seems clueless. I know that it is Christmas- but they DID have DAYS to prepare for this. WFMY-TV 2 runs commericals talking about how their weather forecasts are the most accurate in the Triad. Say what??? They were saying that this storm would NOT be a major storm!! Two days ago, they were calling for only 40 % chance of snow! WFMY-TV 2.2 runs the same RECORDED feed over and over all day. At 6 PM, they were still running the feed recorded at 8 AM. What a joke! WXII-TV 12 seemed to have the best coverage!
 
By the way, 1947 wasn`t the last Whiye Christmas in this area- it was 1969!!!

Maybe they shuffled it all to WGHP 8.2. Did you check for an 8-ball?
 
It is so wonderful to see that is was a magical merry merry Christmas at Gootimesgreatoldie's house! While enjoying the love of family and Jesus , I too was very concerned about the quality of weather coverage. It's the reason for the season!!!! :p ::) :eek: :mad: :D ;)

How did channel 2 do with the snow? Or were they in Oldies Mode all day?
 
I think they were still worried about Sandra Hughes.. Cough Cough leaving! Gannett needs to dump that station and Debbie Hooper, GM.. Most of the anchors are ????? WXII has it going on..

One of the WORST things that WFMY-TV 2 does is keep that damn small little box up in the right-hand corner of the screen. WHY??? I do not need to know what stories are next, I will WATCH!!! Whose STUPID idea was the crazy box? Debbie Hoopers?
 
I don't even like to see the stations logo on ANY station displayed throughout the programs! I know what station I'm watching.. WESH-TV2 Orlando/Daytona Beach.. Oh, I'm not???

I listened to Van Denton all week. He does forecasts on the radio, though sometimes the station forgets to update them once they go to the satellite. Never once did he say it would be major, so I took his word for it.

This is a different market, but "Jeopardy" had no bulletins. This is a station that just loves to spend an entire evening showing us tornadoes and developing tornadoes, but when it came to something that would actually affect most of us, no crawl. No nothing.

During the My Network station's movie, Eric Thomas came on durig a commercial break. Now he's the regular weekday meteorologist on the CBS station which has a 10:00 newscast on the CW station which is co-owned with the My Network station and therefore the newscast gets promoted on the My Network station. This commercial said the snow had started and there would be accumulation. Really? This is new. They said it would snow all day and nothing. In fact, it was raining. After dark.

I remember it well. We always went to my grandparents' house for Christmas. I don't remember whether we left early, or even if there was snow (though Charlotte had not had a white Christmas since 1947, so perhaps it didn't snow there) but my watch said 3:15. It normally took us two hours to get home, but it was dark long before we made it home and the windshield wipers were scraping across ice. My watch said 3:40. In those days you had to remember to wind them ...

Has nothing to do that.. Has to do with the ratings when someone has a diary or calls
 
If most of us geeks were honest, you would admit that you were online the day before, and you had the weather info days before it happened, so you didn't need the local stations for weather. That's the problem with TV today! We are way ahead of them!
 
Guess you are right! I just wanted to jerk their chain a bit.. I think it was humerous that the one European Model denton kept making light of was the one that was right!.. I probably have more computer models on my computer than Channel 8 has.
 
right on Ape! It's a shame that radio has the chance to shine in that moment, and they blow it...Hell, I remember working Christmas AND Thanksgiving Day, Easter Sunday, and most of my days off!
