Christmas has arrived in Alabama! Birmingham that is.

WMJJ Magic 96.5 is now playing its all Christmas format. It began around 5:00 this afternoon. FOr all of you that enjoy it, happy holidays! FOr those of you who don't, happy holidays anyway! I'm sure other stations will follow suite. Take care and enjoy your thanksgiving!

Welcome to Holiday Hell 2005 on the radio!

For those who care or not, I have been too busy to post anything on this board for the past week. Plus it's a slow news period for Alabama radio. I can't decide if I should spend money on satelite radio or not. Today's FM radio hasn't given me much reason to stay with FM and this 24/7 holiday music that stations play at this time only makes me turn off the radio. The only holiday song I like is that Spanish Christmas song that the old Taco Bell dog sang back in '98.

What? Didn't know you were gone.

Seems like Magic starts earlier every year with the Christmas music. Hearing it earlier tonight, I just figured it was just one of their weekend all-Christmas music programming.

Guess Magic wanted to get it a head start over Y-94.5 this year. Didn't "Y" play all Christmas music too last year?

Christmas only comes around once a year.
Or does it??

It's just a "weekend sampler".

Negative, Christmas hell really is upon us.

Not true.

Even though Magic had been doing samplers the previous 2 weekends, they made it official this last Friday. Listening this evening, the Christmas hell is on the airwaves.

They had been waiting until the day after Thanksgiving in previous years.

Like a previous poster mentioned, they must be trying to get the leg-up in the Birmingham market.

At least they waited this long. The AC station in the Savannah market (CC-owned) began its all-Christmas format on November 1st!

Even better, a competing 'soft AC' that same day changed not just its music but also its name: "Christmas 107.9"

I don't listen to either station, so it usually doesn't faze me. Trouble is, many stores play one of 'em on their PA. And wouldn't ya know it, those are the ones with the slowest check-out lines.
