Christmas music on Pensacola radio

As of 3pm on Christmass Eve the only radio station playing secular music in Pensacola is TK101. This band scan also includes all radio stations from the Fort Walton, FL DMA and many stations from Mobile, AL and Panama City, FL and more distant cities. A couple of the local AMs are finishing up with sydicated shows, but the the rest of the religious and news talk stations are now playing music.

Wow. Just wow.

Well, you know, they have to fight the fictional "war on Christmas" I suppose.

I'm surprised so many are doing it, but isn't that how it used to be in the olden days? Everyone took a break from their formats for religious programming or Christmas music for one or two days?

I suppose these days, one could argue there are so many places to hear "regular" music this time of year that there's no point in not catering to the big holiday upon us.

And on most stations the regular music was back by 9 AM Christmas Friday.
I'm surprised it didn't last until Saturday.

Christmas music still brings in ratings and high TSL.

Went on the road with family this week. Every home and business we we went to was playing Christmas music.

It is nice to take a break from world events, killings, and Kardashians, and most listeners seem to agree.

When I made the first post I was shocked. Now it appears this is indeed something new and happened all over the place. I think it was damn cool that every operator though it was a good idea to roll out the Xmas jukebox and take the eve off.

I just joined in on the "war on Christmas" this year... . . going out of my way to say "Merry Christmas" to everyone and all that. My war is against Corporate America (Still Sucks) trying to milk money out of me with this Halloween until Fat Tuesday "Holidays" season when all I care about is thanksgiving dinner, Christmas presents, New Years liquor and fireworks, followed by a big liquor party/orgy for Mardi Gras. You know, a few big weekends, but not 4 months of spending stupid money.

Poledo, point well taken.

Since this is a radio board. I will start with...radio.

We went all Christmas music on December 24th thru mid Dec 26. No announcers (so everyone could spend time with family) promos or sweepers ...gasp (just a legal ID). We had one stop set in selected hours and that was Christmas greetings from our clients (and was limited to 4 in a set), most :15 seconds each).

Now, my personal views and observations:

This year was a good Christmas for us. We got to spend time with family we haven't seen in 30 years. We walked the downtown district of the town we visited and everyone was happy.

Sales were down (according to retailers), fellowship was up. We decided no to buy gifts, but dine and reflect on family memories from the many years past.

If corporate America and all of those who despise the holiday really want to walk the walk. Then close in protest. Also I have decided not to support any big box store that opens on Thanksgiving.
