Christmas Music

...and the Fish is "in the lead."

Tuned in today and heard all Christmas music! November 18th. I think it's just a preview, however it's continuous. I'm ok with the Fish going Christmas, but I do not look forward to 92.9 "flipping the switch." That leaves a HUGE void.

Hey, what a great time to bring back Star97...Merry Christmas everyone...an AC station.

Bah, humbug.

Have you listened to the Fish any earlier this week? Have they promoted the Christmas music at all, prior to today? I heard a Christmas song on Lite 98.7 earlier this week, but apparently, they haven't changed over, yet.

Mix 92.9 preset will be DELETED ...I'm not in the mood for Christmas. Usually not until about the 12th of December or around there. It's too soon..it's not even Thanksgiving yet.

Same here. Enough with the Chri$tma$ mu$ic coming earlier and earlier every year.

Well they are not getting rave reviews about starting Christmas Music early on Mix 929. More like rage reviews. I wish they would just mix Christmas music in with the rest of the songs they play. Christmas music in my opinion should not be heard until the day after Thanksgiving. Maybe that's just the way I was brought up with the station I have worked for.

We started Christmas music two weeks before Christmas..mixing it in regular rotation two songs per hour the first week..then four songs per hour until Christmas day..then the dreaded one man all day Christmas shift..nothing but Christmas tunage all day sign on til sign off..7AM til 4:30 PM..and don't forget the "live" Christmas greeting spots, usually six to eight at once read over instrumentals as the day s l o w l y dragged by...the one redeeming factor...all you had to do was casually mention you were alone..all day..while they family celebrated Christmas without you..always helped to sigh a bit :(..maybe add a sniffle or two :'(..and WHAM BAM..within minutes out of nowhere would come plates of food from listeners...lol and a few tankards of Christmas mead as well...I kinda miss all that... ::)

I have a feeling I posted something almost identical to this a year ago. Driving around today, I kept pushing "button number one" thinking it was Mix, but it's now Jack-FM. Thought, wow, Mix is playing Motley Crue? It's sunny and almost 60 degrees today ... too soon for Christmas music!

Apparently, now the thinking is that mixing Chri$tma$ mu$ic with secular music is a "trainwreck," but I still don't understand why they must transition from one to the other like flipping a light switch. Are you reading these "rage reviews" on their Facebook page? I may need to go over there and check it out.

The first "Christmas" song that I heard yesterday afternoon was "Celebrate Me Home," which to me is not really a "Christmas" song, but I knew what it meant when I heard it. *groan*

I think I've got "Buzz" on my "mix" preset for now. We'll see how THAT works out! ;D

I think that that is kinda sorta how we did it. I believe we were actually FORBIDDEN to play more than the prescribed amount of Chri$tma$ mu$ic!

I would have been loathe to EVER admit (on air) that I was at a station alone, although I, of course, was, many times, but the listeners didn't have to know that! Of course, with the increasing number of 24-hour stations, "sign on to sign off" is almost unheard of anymore!

back in those days 71 -77 or so..being alone was great..especially at the FM at night (104.5) up on the mountain north of Gallatin...after 6 pm..all alone..with a few friends dropping by all the time...pretty good gig..and got paid for it..well almost got paid if $ 110.00 week is considered paid..and weekends just you at the AM or FM til the next jock came in..usually about two minutes before his shift..little did any of us know..just around the corner...the fun would soon be gone completely from radio...

Thank$ for the good music harmony, Firepoint! ;D Truth be told, it ain't us men folkz that matter as much when dealing with Mix machine. It's interesting that you do listen as intently to the station as you do though. It's proof of a well executed product!!! It's even more interesting that no one else feels "comfortable" with tweaking their music/format to attract listeners that would rather not listen to the Christmas music (ever or yet...) I guess Jack would be the logical candidate for at least a week or two. For me, I am just shocked that every single year goes by so much faster that I officially missed July 4, Labor Day and almost Halloween. Blink....Jan 1....

I wasn't actually listening when they changed over. I just looked back at their playlist from Friday and determined that it was around 3:00 p.m. when they switched. Which was only 22 minutes or so after I posted my first message under this thread. Who ever heard of changing to Chri$tma$ mu$ic at 3:00 in the afternoon? It feels like the PD just walked into the studio at the last moment and said, "we're going Chri$tma$." ::)

it could be worse...Rupert could have written "Christmas Escape"
The Rupe sort of took care of that one himself the year that "Escape" was a hit. It was #1 Christmas week in 1979. Had he been releasing "Escape" this year, he would have indeed been shut out of airplay during the Chri$tma$ season.

I'm giving 98.7 a chance in my mix preset spot (while signal isn't great East of town) and brought back the 94.7 preset in place of the Fish.

I'm all about Christmas, but switching over the #1/#2 station this soon when it's the only one of that format in town is just crazy. The sad things is, their ratings won't be negatively affected.
