Christmas Newscasts Preemptions

bpatrick said:
To the person who mentioned Roanoke and
Greensboro, yes, WFMY is pre-empting the "Good Morning Show" and its
noon newscast (for "2 Those Who Care" at noon), but everything else--
including Andy Griffith and Ellen DeGeneres--will be on.
Can I assume it will be the Ben Weaver episode where the family is put in jail?

Atlanta:

WSB (ABC) - Live news from 4:30-5:00 AM 5 AM, 6 AM, Noon, 4 PM, 5 PM, & 6 PM preempted on Christmas Day.

WATL (MyTV) - 10 PM Newscast (produced by WXIA) live both days

WGCL (CBS) - No news preemptions

WAGA (Fox) - Morning news at 4:30 AM, 5 AM, & 6 AM preempted (4 AM, 7 AM and 8 AM live), News at Noon preempted. 5 PM and 6 PM news live but 5:30 and 6:30 PM preempted. 10 PM and 11 PM is live but 10:30 PM is preempted. Those other half hours in afternoon and evening are filled with consumer information specials.

WXIA (NBC) All news on Christmas until 6 PM preempted.

In Atlanta and the rest of the South I would not be surprised to see these plans for preemption get blown up at least somewhat because of a rare tornado outbreak forecast for tomorrow.

Christmas Day is probably the least watched TV day of the year as many people are enjoying their presents, eating and going to church. Just hope people have NOAA weather radio turned on or some other way like weather app on cell phone. Don't want another tragedy after the year we had so far.

KYW-TV & WPSG-TV will air all regularly scheduled newscasts on Christmas Day.
4:30-7 AM news will air as scheduled on WCAU tomorrow.

I woke up at about 6:50AM this morning. Here's the run-down from Connecticut.

WFSB CBS (Merideth) - News.

WVIT NBC O&O - Music and the Spoken Word (They did have a Weather Alert Scroll at the bottom of the screen because of the snow and/or Freezing Rain/Sleet)

WTNH ABC (LIN-TV) - A Gospel Music Special was on

WTIC-TV FOX (CT-1 Media read Tribune) - News

The 3rd hour of WTNH's Good Morning Connecticut Newscast normally airs 7AM-8AM on sister station WCTX 59.1. They're showing something called Happy Holiday America.

2 more episodes of Music and the Spoken word will be airing on WVIT at 11 & 1130 this morning, replacing the news. A special called "Holiday Love" will air at 3PM causing Steve Harvey and Ellen to get bounced to 4PM and 5PM respectively. With Ellen on at 5PM WVIT will only have a half hour of news at 6PM. The 11PM News will air as scheduled.

Listings on TVGuide.Com show WFSB will be blowing out its Noon Newscast for an Infomercial and its 5PM Newscast for a encore of Better Connecticut, which is their local afternoon talk show that airs live on tape at 3PM with Scot Haney and Kara Sundlan. News will air at both 6 & 11PM.

No news on WTNH until 10PM on WCTX. Then 11PM on WTNH. Something called Hollywood Christmas Celebration at The Grove is on at Noon. And ABC's sports coverage of the NBA will be on during the 5PM-630PM News Slots.

All newscasts are scheduled to air on WTIC-TV today. 430AM-10AM, 4PM-5PM, and 10PM-1135.

Normally on Monday and Wednesday I stay on the computer until it is time for "Roy's Folks". That's a feature aired twice a week on the WGHP Greensboro, NC 5:00 newscast, somewhere between 5:40 and 5:55. A former weatherman interviews people who are artists of various types, or who have a special business like an old-timey general store, or even a Santa Claus. Not last night. The entire half-hour at 5:30 appeared to be staff members telling about their Christmas traditions. It would have been nice, but I had so much to do. Roy did interview one of the staff members and I thought I had missed the beginning of one his reports.

Better late than never, Pittsburgh this Christmas Day ...

3 a.m.-9 a.m. (Usual local news is 4:30-7 on local stations, 7-8 on WPCW-19)

KDKA-2 went with CBS news in usual early morning local slots.
WTAE-4 went with ABC news until 5 a.m. then ran a network (I believe) religious special at 5, did local news 6-7 a.m. only, then Good Morning America.
WPXI-11 pre-empted early news for replay of holiday parade, had Early Today and an Animal Rescue episode in 4 a.m. hour then had another replay of holiday parade, then went to Today as usual at 7.
WPCW-19 ran infomercials instead of news from KDKA at 7.

9 a.m.-3 p.m. (Usual local news is noon-12:30 on KDKA, WTAE, WPXI)

KDKA-2 ran "Pittsburgh Today Live" at 9, station's usual hour-long public affairs/talk show with weather reports, then pre-empted its noon news for "Your Pittsburgh," replay of show first run in June.
WTAE-4 ran Hollywood Christmas Celebration at noon.
WPXI-11 ran normal noon news.

3 p.m.-9 p.m. (Usual news is KDKA 4-7, WTAE and WPXI 5-6:30)

KDKA-2 and WPXI-11 are running normal news shows.
WTAE-4 is running ABC/ESPN NBA coverage.

Late news ...

All stations running normal schedule, WPGH-53 runs WPXI news 10-11 p.m., WPCW-19 runs KDKA news 10-10:35 p.m. then "Nightly Sports Call," then KDKA, WTAE and WPXI all have usual 11 p.m. reports.

WPXI's Pittsburgh Cable News Channel pretty much ran normal schedule, including some of its
own newscasts that air first live then are replayed in later hours, but did replay of WPXI holiday parade telecast at 7 a.m., an infomercial at 3 p.m. and Mike Tomlin press conference at 3:30 (for all those really wanting to suffer through the Steeler coach explaining Sunday's loss to Cincinnati).

^WGN America was set to broadcast "Bozo's Circus: The Lost Tape" along with WGN-TV on Christmas Day between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. Central time, according to the news release about the program on the official World Wide Web site for WGN-TV and the official Facebook page for WGN-TV.

WGN America did indeed simulcast WGN-TV's showing of "Bozo's Circus: The Lost Tape" at noon (Central time) yesterday. I recorded the special, watched it this evening and enjoyed it immensely! I was pleased to see at least one airing of the show on the national feed since Tribune has been pre-empting most of the Chicago-centric programming on WGN America.

I'm late to the game, but here were my scheduling observations yesterday in Milwaukee:

- WTMJ-TV: completely pre-empted their morning newscast (4:30 to 7 a.m.) to air "Early Today" (usually broadcast at 4 a.m.) and four religious-based Christmas cartoons. (I've seen two, "Little Shepherd" and "Red Boots for Christmas" broadcast on the channel in the past.) The station's 5 p.m. newscast also was pre-empted for a special, "Positively Milwaukee."

- WITI-TV: completely pre-empted their morning newscasts (4:30 to 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon) to air encores of various specials, including "The Milwaukee Holiday Parade" and "FOX 6 Season of Giving Holiday Special."

- WISN-TV: delayed their morning newscast that usually starts at 4:30 a.m. and instead ran "America This Morning" until 6 a.m. Local news kicked in at that point.

Here in Denver.....

KCNC 4 (CBS O&O) - Normal schedule
KMGH 7 (ABC) - No 5:00 PM news due to NBA Basketball (Nuggets game was at 8:30 PM on ESPN cable)
KUSA 9 (NBC) / KTVD 20 (MyNetwork TV) - Normal schedule (Except for repeat of Parade Of Lights at 8:00 AM on KTVD 20)
KDVR 31 (FOX) / KWGN 2 (CW) Normal newscast schedule on KDVR 31. 7:00 PM newscast on KWGN 2 cut to 30 mins. followed by a news special

One thing worthy of note, like the cable news outlets, the local stations are going with either scaled down weekday teams (KCNC), regular fill-in anchors (KMGH) or weekend anchors i(KUSA/KTVD) all in news, weather & sports. Seems as though they plan on sticking with this all week

Not sure what KDVR/KWGN went with though as I haven't caught a glimpse of them yet

I suspect next week will be the same way till after New Years Day too

Cheers & 73 :D
