And so will CBS. They are NOT going to abandon that cash cow by relegating Christmas music to HD, a desperate industry-pushed gimmick the public has been doing a good job of ignoring for what, four years now? I still say WBMX is the most likely station in the market to go 24/7 Christmas first.

I agree that WBMX will go all-Christmas, but I think WHBA-101.7 (being A Christmas Channel [a/k/a Clear Chanel] Property) will go first, probably the morning of November 1st, which will force WBMX-104.1 and either WROR-105.7 or WMJX-106.7 (I think this year, it will be the latter) to follow suit, probably within minutes.

Ten days hence (I'm writing this on October 22nd), we may well have three all-Christmas stations in Boston!

What a waste of bandwidth..... There should be no christmas music stations. If what they aired on a regular basis was any good, people would listen to them every day.....!

It's seasonal music. Whether it's "any good" is irrelevant. It puts people in the Christmas (read: spending) mood. That's why stations run it; it's a dependable advertising bonanza.

Three Christmas stations in a major market? That sounds like wishful thinking to me. And why would CC flip 101.7 to Christmas music? They just launched The Harbor and I doubt they're abandoning it anytime soon. Also, that signal would be uncompetitive with 105.7 and whoever else flips this year.

Back in 2003 cc in philly flipped 104.5 too all christmas out of nowhere nobody seen it coming
B101 was going to flip but they decided not too and sunny 104.5 came in at 2nd place in the ratings B101 fell to 5th place that year the very next christmas season sunny 104.5 did a christmas music weekend But during the week on a wednesday afternoon B101 flipped @ 3pm in the afternoon Clear channels Sunny 104.5 did not repspond until 7pm that night

SO dont say cc wont flip 101.7 too all christmas music

This whole argument is becoming a case of "Bah, Humbug," if you ask me! Personally, I like the WODS-FM HD3 Christmas channel! ::)

Amp Radio is NOT going to play Christmas music.
The only possible thing I can see them doing with AMP on Xmas is a Christmas Eve into about 5pm on Christmas with maybe a current feel to it or a 24 hr simulcast of WODS HD-3

I actually had to go on line to check it out. Yup-- Feb 22--7:39 am Elvis banging out a Christmas song Way to go CBS radio--what a joke!

IIRC, you could get Christmas music via an online stream on the WODS website all year long when WODS was an oldies/classic hits station. You can also find yearround Christmas streams on Live365, Shoutcast and similar Internet streamers, so there must be an audience for the ho-ho-ho stuff out of season. The HD3 stream is basically the same thing. It's not like CBS is putting it on a main signal, so I don't get all the anger and ridicule.

It's the fact that the HD3 played only liners for a few days and then reverted to Christmas music. It's obvious they don't care about the HD3 when the automation messes up. It ran out of songs for The Cove

I'll bet that there were some listeners who WANTED the Christmas music back on year 'round streaming it on their website (rather than listening on HD radio). Look at their website, the "Holiday" format (not "The Cove") is now promoted for their HD3 stream!
