Cincinnati/Dayton Radio Predictions 2012

Click is here to stay for the time being and going forward. Mainline has too much invested and they are going to keep pushing it. Sure the music is going to change, but it is here to stay. I like the station, although I do not listen much. I will concede that Cox would crush Kiss Country, had it went to the new stick. I am going to venture a guess that revenue is down compared to country, but it IS a new signal and there are probably a lot of people still finding out Click is on the radio. New brand, new frequency. So yes there is more brand building to do. Now sell, sell sell. Only the future will tell.
Where as Kiss Country did well in its turf, going to a new turf would have been difficult if not suicidal. We could do the what if's, but that is reality...........

Since WCLI was a failure it would be a good idea to go back to Country. With there stick closer to Dayton they can eat a few more shares away from WHKO and generate a lot more revenue after their huge loss in revenue with Click this year.

I'm sure you would. But, if it happens count on K-99 to eat their lunch...especially if they keep the old morning show host...

Dayton: Looking at the latest Arb for Dayton, Where someone gets the idea Click is hurting WMMX is wrong, MMX just had there best book in a year 6.4 up over a share since last year and Click has only a 1 share, even if you spread the target demo.. Its about ratings and revunue. They could tweek and go Adult CHR like Q102 in Cincy and it may help them, since there is a hole in that market for that format. If someone buys "Lite" and "Big" I could see "Big" doing country, no one is going to relegate that signal to Richmond, like Ive seen on posts on this blog site before, There is almost 13 shares out there to split between WHKO and WBZI, Click though will not return to that format, even with a better signal. With "Rebel" gone someone may put country on a stick and head for the younger demos, It will be all about a selling the new cluster to advertisers. Remember though it not just a about 12 plus numbers put getting solid numbers in your demo that you can sell as well.

Cincinnati: Cumulus will not flip 94.1 again and I expect them to pull a 3.5 to a 4.0 share in there first year(remember besides B105 there are 3.5 shares on other country outlets WYGY 1.7, WNKR 1.7 and WSCH 0.9, all three with weaker signals). Dale O'Brian (WNNFs new PD) is known for turning out solid country stations. Great Country will be live Mornings, Live or VT'd Middays, Live afternoons and run one of the nationally syndicated night shows and jukeboxed overnight(This is the Cumulus norm even in smaller markets with country). Maybe bring Bill Whyte back teamed with Amanda Orlando or put Dale on, he has a solid track record in mornings as well. Maybe team him with Orlando.

Hubbard wil switch WYGY to a station that will compete against the Cumulus stations to keep there Cluster numbers up there. It will have to be format that can compete on that signal . Maybe 60's/70s Oldies or some sort of Fresh AC or Soft AC to compete against Warm 98, AC there being the better option since Journey is gone, keep in mind Journey in its PPM was seventh overall in cume but only got a 1.7.

Rich:

The only thing I'll say is that "BIG" has now done country twice...and been an abject loser every time..

You can't look at 12+. After 3 full books WCLI is not doing much at all. WXEG currently has 7.5 Share with M18-49 compared to Click who has a 1.4 Share. Click had much better shares doing country!

Yes...and in mornings they had a 0 point something...

Kiss Country's numbers came entirely from Springfield, Champaign and Clark County and it was largely dbecause they played K99.1's music and tried to be hyper local for Springfield. It would go down in flames on 101.5 trying to compete in the entire Dayton market.

And with K99 having taken over Clark and Champaign counties even before the flip, I don't see where 101-5 could even come close to getting back any major percentage of that audience. Last breakouts I saw in Clark County before the flip, K-99.1 was #1...KC was #8

The KC morning show was beyond terrible. I was listening on the last day...and it was painful. The only reason I was listening anyhow was b/c I knew a flip was coming sometime that day. I've heard better morning shows on college stations. ;D

@Jason, You are a very Arrogant person, Plain and simple. You knock a morning show and personality who was under paid and trying his best with what he had? Really? And the compare K9 to KC and make a poor comment about how you would eat their lunch? Grow up man!!! Ive heard your news cast...reading until you are out of breath, stumbling through words and miss-pronouncing word...You sir are no Judge of talent!!!

This is from a listeners point of view and I won't debate ratings or signal because I don't know anything about those things, but I do understand Arrogance! You need a lesson in humility. Feel free to take a jab at me, Im a big man I can take it. I may work for the phone company but I work without putting people down when they are down.

OK, Im off my soap box now. I do enjoy Click and this its a good station when I can pick it up. I hope it succeeds.

To quote another poster on this thread..."I've heard better "News Casters" on college radio stations! Nuff said!!!

No, that's not 'nuff said. What were the call letters of the college station you mention? Would you happen to have an aircheck of their incredible newscasters to back up your statement?

I don't need to back up my statement! Nor do I know what an aircheck is? You defend your friend and thats fine, I made my statement and stand by it. My comment if you payed attention to it was simple...If he is going to judge other talent then perhaps his own talent should be questioned first. Im not saying the morning guy on KC was good, but don't thorw stones at a guy who lost his job because his company shut his station down. Beside, I do listen to the news in the morning and Jason does slur, stumble, talk himself out of breath and misspronounce words...Just listen sometime! That to me sounds like a person who has no right to judge...I'm done!

@chrocket87, Is that why WE listeners do your ratings? Because we don't know how to judge talent? I guess I should change careers and become a radio guy, because only then will I know whats good or bad?? I think I will stick to my job, and just be a listener with a critical ear  ;D

Agree with Alan guys, and an aircheck is just an on air recording pretty much, I have about ten or so of WPST in Trenton/Philadelphia.

We come on this board to express our opinions and possibly debate them and form new ones, not to argue and start a fight, and we certainly shouldn't throw around insults.
