Cincinnati Reds on 1570 WNDA

Effective Saturday Auigust 21, 2010 the Cincinnati Reds can be heard (if you live within the signal coverage) on 1570 AM, WNDA in Clarksville, Indiana. Of course they will be subject to endless pre-emptions just like they were on 1450 AM which is the main bone of contention here in Louisville along with poor signal coverage. Now I get 1570 fine but I only live about 3 miles from the transmitter. At least WNDA did get the Reds back on the air and they also carry the Indianapolis Colts but no post season games from them. There is an article in the Friday Courrier-Journal about this.

They carry Friday night High School football and also U of L Cardinals baseball (of course that's over for this season).

It's a shame that The Reds can't be on a local station that can be heard city wide. Maybe because The Reds are on Fox Sports Ohio has something to do with it? Radio don't want to bother airing the games since almost all games are on cable TV.
I've also heard that Indiana University football and basketball will now be on WNDA. That will also preempt The Reds. That is if you can hear them!

I believe WNDA also carries the pre-season game of the Colts as well. I have heard at least one game on there this year. I believe it was the game on Sunday if I recall correctly. Also, I heard the Reds broadcast on WTHX-FM 101.5 from Vine Grove/Elizabethtown. This may be a possible outlet for those in the southwest portions of the metro area.

Who cares about ESPN radio. That is a joke just like Fox Sports radio. All they do is holler and scream about dumb things all the time. Since I only live 3 miles from WNDA's transmitter I get a great signal day or night. I like the fact that IU sports, Cincinnati Reds, and Indianapolis Colts are all on one station as those are my three teams. I will still use my computer, satellite radio, and i-phone for my coverage though unless I am in the car. I prefer the 700 WLW feed for the Reds as they never pre-empt them for anything. WNDA does a much better job at running their station than 1450 ever did but with their weak signal they really don't cover a very big area. I couldn't even pick them up when I lived out in Valley Station a few years ago.

Here's a thought. What if the owners of WNDA / WTSZ bought 1450? Then they could simulcast on the 3 signals and at least cover the area much better day and night. And I do have to say that whoever runs 1570 and 1600 do a really good job. I never hear dead air (when I can hear them!) or anything like that. It seems that they run things the way they are supposed to be run.

People who are not from this area but have moved here, have no ties to UK or U of L, and don't care to hear the 24/7/365 discussion of those schools that floods every local radio show. Some people like a national perspective on MLB, NFL, NBA, college sports, etc.; that they won't get with local shows.

That's why I don't listen to local sports radio around here. Having ESPN on XM is wonderful. You know what the rest of the world is talking about.

Good idea.

I can remember the two seasons - 1963 & 1971 - that WHAS in Louisville was on the the Reds Network. The few times the games were pre-empted was due to the Derby or U.K. football. Unfortunately, neither of those seasons were good ones for the Reds.

With regards to the current situation, I'd think a fairly lower-power FM station could be used to cover the downtown area for those wanting to listen in offices, in the car, etc. where various forms of interference might make it hard to pick up WLW. Other than that, picking up 700-AM should be fairly easy elsewhere unless there is a bad electrical storm in the vicinity.

I live in Oldham County and can hardly pick up WLW in MY car!!

Might want to have your car radio checked. I regularly listen to WLW around Crestwood. More so when Gary Burbank was on the air. It's not without static, but it's better than listening to Terry Miners.

The Reds are now 8 games up in the N.L. Central. And they are on stations that can't be heard at night in Louisville. Pathetic!

We have to have 20 stations covering U la K and U la Smell. Anything else is non-existant as far as radio is concerned here. If you want to hear another team you better pop for satellite or internet packages. I learned this a long time ago. That's just the sad but true tale.

I think it's funny, and a bit ironic, how U of L can't get the dominate station in it's home market to carry it's games. Instead they give priority to a school 90 miles away. The school in the market with the big station is relegated to the pea-shooter.

I suspect U of L could have gotten top clearance if they had been willing to pay more than UK did. That's why they call it "commercial broadcasting."

It's called whoring yourself out, and it's interesting that a "Wildcat guy" defends it.

The biggest university in the state is on the biggest radio signal in the state. That seems to make logical sense.
