Citadel Broadcasting, Please Collect Your Children

Seriously.

Your vindictive little three-month-long joke on Ferris O'Brien on Kingfisher's airwaves needs to come to an end.

Sean Beall - and whoever else Citadel is allegedly allowing to run KINB (and associated Facebook page and website) like their personal playground - need to be reeled in before they do any more damage to Citadel's reputation among advertisers in Oklahoma City.

Is this what we should come to expect?

Just end this. It's embarrassing.

Whoopsie!

Every trace of "The Real Spy FM" has disappered today.

Facebook: Gone

It's getting wierder by the moment. One would think that people would be fighting over something that made made money, had lots of listeners, and really counted in OKC's ratings, like the KATT, KJ, KRXO, The Twister, or something like that. Nope, it's a .00something format. Odd if you ask me... (but no one did LOL!)

The website and blog were at therealspyfm.com. WHOIS information for that domain all points to "domainsbyproxy.com" so whoever owns/owned it doesn't want people to know their real name.

The Google cache of the website and their facebook show they both went dark sometime on or after 2/16. The last few facebook posts have repeated mentions of "96.9".

After some digging I was able to come up with at least a partial list of domains that were registered on the evening of 2/16 by the same person/group. The name doesn't tell me much, maybe someone else knows more. Lots of combinations of "spy", "spy fm", "the real spy", and either 969 or 97.
http://www.google.com/#q=westfall+oklahoma+city+73112+%22the+rez+group%22&hl=en&safe=off&prmdo=1&prmd=ivns&filter=0&bav=on.1,or.&fp=b5fc6a07c812d0bf

Maybe that's someone registering a bunch of possible names to keep Citadel from having them. Each domain goes to a blank page with no text, a header that just says "uh oh." and they're hosted at hostgator.net. All of Citadel's pages are hosted on their own servers.

Curiouser and curiouser.

For clarification: is "The Real Spy" still broadcasting on 105.3 OR 96.9?

Does anybody have their "secret" stream address, & if so is it still working?

(And whatever happened with Bob-FM O.K.C. suing Bob-FM (Renda) Tulsa???)

105.3FM has been carrying "The Real Spy FM" since their relationship with Ferris and his "The Spy FM" ended. Ferris's station is now online-only, thespyfm.com. Short version: "the real spy" is the pretend spy.

"The Real Spy FM" is still on 105.3 right now, and Bob is still on 96.9. Don't have an address for their stream.

Can't find a stream for 105.3, only for thespyfm.com.

Isn't 105.3 still in the Last Bastion Trust? I believe all of Last Bastion's stations were cut off of Citadel's streaming, and I don't think any of them stream on their own.

It was only for the "Super Secret REAL SPY FM Members Only Supersecret Spy Club". Which was also where they claimed all of their advertisers spots could be heard. Rather than, you know, on the radio where they could actually be heard.

Sean Beall really made a horses ass out of Citadel's reputation with the shenanigans he pulled.

Pity too, because he's not a terrible DJ.

Sean is a nice person, and a hard worker. Why is his name being brought up, other than the fact he's on the 105.3? You know, choosing up sides and becoming nasty most of the time really doesn't work out for the indivdual in radio. Being nasty and distasteful to someone just because they work at a competing company or group just isn't right. It's also very limiting. It's likely many of us with cross paths again in our carreers. I've seen it over and over again...

With all due respect, I think I can tell you why Sean Beall's name has been brought into this thread. I don't work in radio, but I am an advocate for the "Ferris Spy" and the independant DJs that program and host the specialty shows on his station. The behavior of Citadel employees in this "competition" between the Spies has been thus: Citadel sales reps in OKC have been telling potential advertisers that they represent Ferris, they also stole banners and advertising from the "Ferris Spy" website for unauthorized use on the "Citadel Spy's" website (now gone). Here's where Sean comes in... the "Citadel Spy" is airing imposter specialty shows using the exact names of shows on the Ferris Spy (example The Toaster Brunch, Juke Joint Revival) Those shows are owned by the DJs not Ferris and certainly not Citadel or Last Bastion. In this particular area Sean has smeared his own good name on Facebook and the "Citadel Spy" blog in support of this deception. Sean Beall even gone so far as to congratulate the host of the Juke Joint Revival on her Facebook page for her 'return' terrestrial radio when he knows very well the show of that name on 105.3 is a fraud that he likely programmed himself. Being a hard worker and a nice guy doesn't mean much when you are doing your boss' dirty work at the expense of people in the community where you live. Ok, off my box now, but I hope you see my point. Valeo Favoca

I see your point, however, I think the real thing is Sean is eager to do a decent job for his employer, not that he's trying to slight anyone. The sales people know darn good and well what their doing, but that's not something he has much to do with. Many of Citadel's sales people have shown themselves time and time again to be unethical and unscrupulous time and time again. That part should be no supprise to anyone in the industry around here. I can see how "the other side" is really hurt by this whole situation right now. To be honest, there's faults on both sides of this deal. I just don't see that the guy that is on the air really has much to do with it. He's just the guy that has to pull the shift. Others make the decisions on what to run.

@valeofavoca they have come up with superaltrocknation or whatever, which is their only "original program". it also appears to be a christian rock segment. also, i've had the radio on for a few minutes making short drives and have clearly heard something that sounds like christian rock. i see a format change coming soon, esp. since everything's suddenly disappeared. i mean, when i'd listen to the station, it was always the same lips song, the same mgmt song, same death cab, same cake, same whatever song. it was a pretty half-baked attempt imitating the spy. but don't we have enough christian rock stations in okc? and classic rock stations?

ferris isn't going to give up. and their website was also a godaddy page. rumor is, ferris also owns "the spy" - spymedia and such, and "the spy" name, contrary to what has been said. but, not everyone can connect a smartphone into their car stereo, or home stereo.

and yeah, it is a failure. if they had just put something else over that frequency, it may do better. but they are misrepresenting themselves in many ways. it's failing far worse than they could have imagined, and they never would have imagined that the spy's following was so loyal. the facebook's fans appeared to mostly be people who worked at citadel or in radio anyway, and they also tended to delete any negative comments left on their page.

there's also been the rumor sean beall wanted to start his own radio station, and what better time to prove himself, running another station that's been left behind, and shaping and molding it into something else, and probably in fact has something to do with slighting people - i mean, half the likes and comments on the facebook page were from him anyway, and he was trying to pose as a "fan", not someone who actually was a radio personnel.

Bothendsburning: I've heard some Christian rock sounding stuff between cake songs on 105.3, so maybe that's where they're headed. Yeah, I think they figured Ferris O'Brien would just hang it up, and they could step right in as if nothing had changed... of course pretty soon there would be lots of annoying car dealership ads and plenty of Green Day. I heard they have one of Ferris' hard drives, which explains how they have been able to imitate his format without actually knowing anything about music.

At the end of all this, just understand the format is really unsellable. It was unsellable in the beginning at the real Spy of Stillwater, it was unsellable as a Citadel version the first go-around, Ferris gathered up enough friends to keep it paying the bills for a year, but it wouldn't sustain in my opinon so that's pretty much unsellable, and the Last Bastard Trust version is pretty much unsellable too. It's a dead horse. I cannot figure out why there's a fight over it. For the record, Mr. Ferris didn't invent the Spy. He wasn't the PD of it EVER in Stillwater. He was a jock, and nothing more. His lack of business sense is why he chose to try to get something he did not have the fincial backing to pay for in the end. I'm not trying to take up for Citadel/Last Bastard. It's just the facts. Who takes a car from a dealership on a year ride, puts gas in it and washes it, maybe changes the oil a few times, and comes back pissed off a year later because the dealership now wants the sticker price and the bank won't loan the driver the money to buy it? No one is perfect in this situation and there's always more than one side, but what exactly is Citadel/ Last Bastard supposed to do? They overpaid for it. I think they'd like to find someone that can afford the damn thing. Ferris should be saying thanks for letting them promote him and his internet-only station for a year instead of being a 2yr old about this. Again, I have no dog in this fight (you'll notice I haven't been a Citadel cheer-leader), but I think it's time for Mr. Farris to grow up and realize that he needs to just be the best he can at running his net station for now. Who knows... Maybe someone will buy the Kingfisher hairdryer someday and put that situation out of it's misery. Then he'd have a 100 percent clear room to be the only Spy left standing, for whatever that's worth.
