I don't agree that this is what the 'classic rock' stations need to play. The traditional classic rock format listener won't sit through bands like Poison, Ugly Kid Joe & Warrant to get to the bands they want.

You've hit a demo that's not getting serviced (enough) in the many dimensions/niches of the rock format. I'd like to see a library of active rock recurrents (thru 2000), lots of metal gold ('84-'99), and just a dash of some of the heavier classic rock bands (Zep, AC/DC) during the workday, add an occasional current (but only the good stuff, let the internet break new artists). Lots of (real) attitude, not just sweepers that "say" you're a badass...be one in the market, and throw in some personalities that are in-touch with the local scene.

Actually wang, That classic rock/metal format is getting the most call ins out of anything they done in years. And some that been in other rock format stations also. Soo many people would love to hear that music that just dont listen to radio nowadays. Its all old Cds and tapes. How many times are we going to hear the doors, eagles, free, stevie ray vaughn, etc etc every other hour on the radio? Thats why classic rock stations have ratings 3.5 and under..and usually under 2.5 unless they have a great morning drive show. Corps base everything on a listener for 20 min. Thing is..not many are listening. Why tune into a station if you know your going to hear the same song and band each day? We all have old CDs..its not like they are playing something like..WOW I havent heard that song on the radio in like a decade or more? Classic Metal is out there waiting to be heard... at least for a decade or so...as long as they change up the format and keep a format of more than hearing the same band every hour.

Again Jrr is getting alot of hits from people calling into the show. Why? Cause its something clearchannel , CBS, and others arent willing to put on the radio full time. People are calling in say 'Its refreshing'!!!

Well, that's your lowest common denominator that are listening to that reptitive playlist.
That's just the caliber of folks that McDonalds and Coke need to market to most.
Believe me, when these "loosers" call in to request another already overplayed song from the past, you can hear it in their "voice", their intellect, or lack of, or their "commonness" really comes through ! ! YES, I think that those folks should have --a-- station that they can "relate" to.

And, for the rest of "us", that have a little higher standards, of what we would consider "quality" FM Rock radio programming.....

Well, we --also-- deserve --a-- station that plays music that --we-- can relate to.

Why radio in general is deaf, dumb, and blind to that, I do not know.

It may something to do with ONLY seeing the Bottom Line, ONLY.

"We can See the Bottom Line"

"We can Speak the Bottom Line"

"We can Hear the Bottom Line"

THAT IS ALL...

WOW yes that guy who posted that 97underground.com is probably the best overall PureRock station out there. Not only do they play todays top hardrock tunes..but they play classic metal... even once inawhile Seattle band or early 80s classic rock... just mostly Pure rock/metal of today and Pure rock from 84-94. This is what todays Pure Rock stations should play... get rid of the cheesy 90s geek rock!!

Unfortunately, 97 streams at Windows Media Audio 9.1 32 kbps, 32 kHz, stereo 1-pass CBR, which is at the low end of acceptibility on line. It woould be nice if they could up the bandwith to 64 kbps!

Southern Maryland has a Classic Solid (hard) Rocker: WYRX '97.7 The Rocket' out of Lexington Park. If ever 92.7 out of Prince Frederick is ever sold, I hope that the owners of 97.7 will consider buying the station and moving the format there. http://www.977therocket.com/

Its ok... just a typical rock station. Jrr out of Orlando is really good though...wmms.com out of cleveland is good also. Still 97underground.com plays the best classic metal with todays.

actually if that was #1 for teenagers it would be played in everycity on current rock radio.. but nah..I know your joking anyways..but the ratings for JRR went from just under 3 to a 3.7 now if radio mixed in todays with that music and got rid of Most (not all) grunge then a good rock station it would be.

Its mostly for us classic rock people from 29-44..but alot of young ones never heard of this music and like it!

I got into this conversation a little late, but my question is for scottsvb5:

Why would you think that the playlists you posted here are what "classic rock" stations should play, when the playlists match that of an "active rock" station, more than anything else?
