Classic Rock on AC Stations

Re: Carrie Underwood... "Undo It" sounds to me like a clone of Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent" so I'm a bit surprised it isn't doing better crossover wise, just a few Hot AC stations spinning it. I know of one Hot AC station in a small market in northeast Indiana that plays "All-American Girl," "Wasted" and perhaps some of her other songs that didn't really cross over. This same station, which has a habit of playing a non-crossover country hit every once in a while, also played Zac Brown Band's "Highway 20 Ride" a while ago, but they've since dropped it.

Getting back to the subject of classic rock... I know of at least one AC station - WRVF 101.5 The River in Toledo - that actually plays some hair bands (other than Bon Jovi) on its Friday afternoon/evening '80s show. And this is an AC station that is fairly soft otherwise (they still play Celine Dion and Michael Bolton). I have heard Poison (and I'm not talking "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," which I have heard on some ACs) and Motley Crue played there. WLHT 95.7 in Grand Rapids (which is leaning Hot AC now) was doing an '80s-themed weekend for a while (now discontinued) and leaned even more toward hair bands.

Mellencamp has been a staple of AC stations for decades. "Jack & Diane," "Hurts So Good," "Cherry Bomb," and "Small Town" have all gotten heavy AC airplay and you can hear some of the others including "Authority Song" and "Lonely Ol' Night" occasionally on specialty shows. His mid-'90s duet with Me'shell Ndegeocello on "Wild Night" was big on AC at the time but you don't hear it much anymore.

The Stones and Kiss made occasional forays onto the AC charts in their heyday, the former with "As Tears Go By" and the latter with "Beth." I don't hear those songs much anymore though.
 
I would be very surprised that the precursor to AC would play "As Tears Go By" or any similar song. It's decidedly Rock, albeit Soft Rock and adult stations just didn't do that in 1965. The same could be said of the Righteous Brothers version of "Unchained Melody".

Marianne Faithful's rendition of "As Tears Go By" would work, as well as The Rolling Stones. You might be right about the Righteous Brothers version of "Unchained Melody". In 1965 it might have been somewhat avant garde considering Al Hibbler was still playing.
 
I needed something at CVS that I culdn't get at the grocery store. My grocery store's music is mentioned in the Muzak topic. CVS is a durgstore chain that is located in my grocery store's shopping center, so it's easy to go there. Recently, they were playing the same music as the grocery store, but when I went in there Saturday they were playing 'Night Fever" by The Bee Gees. Before I had found what I was looking for, "My Sharona" started up (after a station ID that told me it was radio) and these people lost a sale. True, the station was playing special weekend music, but no excuse. They should have stuck with the Muzak.

Another AC in the area once did a classic lunch and included in that was Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive".
 
Back in the 80s, Transtar (later Unistar, later Westwood One, later Dial Global) had two AC formats, Format 41 and a more mainstream-sounding but still relatively soft AC. Only it wasn't that soft: I once heard George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone".
 
Please Google Dial Global and notice the large number of formats available. There are other companies that supply this music, too.

Sometimes, I feel like this board is much like teaching kids to use the library. Please don't get lazy and waste the bandwidth here without FIRST knowing something basic abut what you are writing about. Just becuase you hear it in a store....it may be a group of cd's in a changer or a computer.

Muzak and those type of companies do research, and have for many years. This kind of music is VERY science based (much like what chimp comments about with DG Adult Standards), backed by RESEARCH - not just some random whim to play some song. The computer program called "Selector" is a great tool. It is what they use to program the music.

There are many MOODS of this kind of music. It has been psychologically tested (really) for 40+ years. I suggest you START by Googling "Functional Music." Then look up "Darryl Peters." Then, ask questions.

Why would you not first Google what you are thining about and do some research on your own?

If you Google "Background Muic" there are over 4 MILLION results. Look around. Google is so easy and works so well, and will stop some of you from appearing ridiculous, because you don't really know much about the topic.
 
In my case, I don't think about doing the research when I am at a library. There's too much to think about and I rely on the people here to do the research.

At home, if I post here, it's not after doing research because I avoid going to more than a select group of web sites at home. This has kept me from having problems with my computer. My Norton history shows only one Trojan which was quarantined. I also got (or may have gotten from the same source) a fake virus message. I say fake because none of the real techniques to find viruses revealed this.

You can argue all you want about how I wouldn't be doing anything unsafe, but this is what I am doing.
 
Explosions tend to require some kind of spark and material to take place.

I think you may be referring to "Behind These Hazel Eyes" by Kelly Clarkson. Her music definitely fits the Hot AC format, but she's had many singles that have become staples on mainstream AC stations, including this one.

I heard this song somewhere and I did hear the words "Behind These Hazel Eyes".

It's terrible.
