Clayton Allen Going back to Corpus Christi

I have been hearing that Clayton Allen will be going back to Corpus to work with his buddy, Kent Cooper. Apparently Cooper has been trying to build up KOUL and try to take on KRYS. Problem will be he is ignoring all the other stations. In the case of Clayton Allen coming back, may be a good move in that Frank at Clear Channel couldn't find a clue if it hit him in the arse. AM show on KRYS beats KOUL hands down and to bring in Clayton will probably mean even less authority for Bert Clark. I am afraid that Kent is forgeting about KLTG. It is sounding very lame these days. Middays and PM drive talent is fine but the music mix and Berts' on air have alot to be desired. Should prove interesting. It better help because rumor has it they are hitting the billing numbers either......

I'm glad to hear that Kent Cooper is going to get a guy that has recently worked in a major market to build KOUL back up again. As for the other stations in the group, well, KLTG I think needs to go a little more borderline mainstream CHR. Now that Bert Clark is no longer OM/PD I'm sure KLTG will lose more ratings shares. The interim PD Chris Roberts knows nothing about radio whatsoever,so good luck there. KMJR is pretty solid where they are. KLHB is a poor excuse for a tejano station, it's no wonder KSAB Kicks their butt.
Those clowns Gabe and Delma in the mornings need to go.

Kent "I have little man syndrome" Cooper will be a disaster in any market. Kent is just one more prime example of why terrestrial radio is going down the drain.

AS far as KLTG is concern, I wasn't aware that they took PD away from Bert. Just OM. And I wouldn't think he would stay if they took the PD title away also. If they haven't taken PD away, it proves that Bert is still clueless. AS far as KLHB, the new PD is trying to fight old battles with the KSAB and the music suffers for it. The AM show of KLHB is actually pretty good. The mix of music is where they are taking it in the shorts. The PD is a retread that shouldn't have been hired. Though finding a decent Tejano PD is getting harder and harder these days. As far a major market experience. C Allen may have worked in SA but he is no Major Market talent as far as talent goes.

EXACTLY

According to All Access 8/10..Bert Clark is no longer with Tejas Broadcasting. As for Tejano music, I really don't know why it is even a radio format. The music is dull,stale...either PD's don't know how to program new music or there isn't anything new. All I see on Tejano playlists is 80's and 90's titles. But then again I really don't care for the music. It's kinda like these HOT AC stations that play the same forty 80's titles every day.
I really think HOT AC should get even hotter, practically CHR...cut the 80's down significantly. Gosh, most AC stations sound like HOT AC stations nowaday's.

Apparently they also got rid of the engineer, and were going to get rid of Jim Dandy who left before they could fire him. Sounds like Tejas is trying to cut expenses. If billing is being missed then you cut. They are cutting. The main guy that runs their company doesn't have a clue and Cooper is gathering his posse.

Just a guess, maybe you guys had so much trouble with Kent because you were wasting time posting on internet gossip sites instead of working at work?

I worked for Kent, and he was one of the best GMs I've ever had, but I did notice he didn't have much tolerance for the lazy or just plain stupid. Since I'm neither, we got along just fine.

100. I would say only a small percentage of people who worked for Cooper liked him, but does that necessarily mean anything? Well the business community didn't think much of him. I do find it interesting what he is trying to do. More power to him. As with most Management changes, they eventually bring in most of their own people. You see in radio, business and of course in sports, coach comes in and brings his own coaches. I think he will get rid of the SM eventually to bring the guy that used to work for him at CC and Cumulus unless there was a falling out. I think Cooper maybe concentrating too much on KOUL though CC KRYS' 'Big Frank' doesn't have a clue.

PRESS RELEASE

BIG CHANGES AT KOUL, CORPUS CHRISTI!

Kent Cooper, Market Manager for Tejas Broadcasting announces, “We can finally put the rumors to rest! Former KAJA San Antonio PD and morning personality, Clayton Allen has joined the KOUL team.”

On Monday, 9/17, Allen assumes the duties of KOUL Program Director and afternoon drive personality, along with the position of Operations Manager for the 4 station cluster.

Cooper went on to say, “Clayton and I have a long history of working together. I brought him into the country format as PD of KRYS when I was Market manager there. We built an incredible station. Clayton then went on to program KAJA in San Antonio and bring it to the top of the ratings. When I came back to Corpus Christi last year with Tejas, I knew I had to have Clayton join me here.”

Also on Monday, Clayton’s former KRYS morning show partner, Charlie McKay, joins KOUL in mid-days. Cooper says, “Charlie has been a leader in Corpus Christi radio for years. After several years off as a stay at home mom, we talked her into coming back to the airwaves.”

Clayton adds, “It’s fantastic to have the team back together again. I look forward to repeating our past success in the Sparkling City by the Sea!”

One final piece to the puzzle. Former KAJA San Antonio promotion wizard, Marc Mujica, joins Tejas Broadcasting Corpus Christi as cluster Marketing and Promotions Director.

The Tejas Broadcasting cluster in Corps Christi includes country KOUL, Hot AC KLTG, Regional Mexican KMJR and Tejano KLHB.

Hoover Hoover Hoover, I told you so. It was real no brainer, Cooper wants his guy especially since he has a big hardon for KRYS. I am not a fan of Cooper and many aren't but I have a feeling KRYS will be undermanned since Big Frank has no loyalty amoung his people. The on-air staff is been rumored to not think much of his PD talents and his on air work is bush league at best. I don't think Clayton is really all that either. When they came on to the scene, KOUL was already in the toliet and KFTX was never a real challenger. So When you have no real competition did you really win. Should be interesting. They are beginning to put it together like it was around 2004 when KOUL was making some real growth. I think they will hurt the other stations they have to finance KOULs success. Tejas likes to save pennies to lose dollars.

shrewd move. Big Frank needs to dust off the old resume. KOUL will re-capture the heritage country spot.

Curious.... is this the same Clayton Allen that was on-air, PD and eventually GM at FOXY 106 in Midland/Odessa?

If so, tell him I said "hi"!

Michael

Wow, lots of Changes since I left CC and KOUL in March of 05! Clayton's a good cat, I used to work with him at Star System in Austin before I moved to CC to do mornings back on KOUL back in 01.

I wish him well!

When I was on the air at KIKN in 1974, Jimmy Louis was doing the 7PM-Midnight shift. Whatever became of Jimmy?

Hello All,
"Jimmy Louis" Wilken here. Still alive and KIKN ;D
I've been several places since KIKN Chuck.
I Did news at KOUL for almost 10 years then put KFGG (Now Klove) on the air for Roloff Enterprises and did a stint as GM. I left there after 8 years because the station was going nowhere and the board would listen to my recommendations. I have had Trinity Recording Studio for 15 years and have been doing it full time since I left FGG.
I do a bit of engineering for anyone who asks but haven't been on-the-air for years.

Jimmy, I'm glad to see you are alive and doing well. I had an opportunity to view your website which brought me up to date on your life. It was a pleasure working with you and sharing some laughs at the shift change at midnight, at the KIKN studio/transmitter site for the short time I was there. I left to do the morning show on 920 KTLW in Texas City and weekends on KIKK. Thats why I didn't stay very long. All my best to you.
