Let the games begin!...the unfortunates already include:

Brenda Matthews
Steadman from the Shannon Burke Show
Dickerman on WJRR nights and internet

-Brenda is the most well off of the 3...numerous voicetracking gigs...shes a commodity...and she will be picked up, EASILY!
-Steadman...i think this represents the end of the Shannon Burke Show...i KNOW its not a news/talk station, but most news/talk stations are local in mornings and afternoons, syndicated the rest of the day...i think TKS goes the same route...
-Dickerman on JRR...i hear now that he is back in the internet dept, but not going to return to nights...imho, JRR has become the most un-listenable station to me...the music is as stale as it always was...hearing the same banter for the last decade doesn't help...i don't think any of the JRR part time staff is strong enough to step in at nights permanently, and i dont see CC hiring someone for the shift...syndication anyone?

who's next!?!?!

I got some clarification on two of those three people. Brenda will still be on the air with all of her stations, she'll just be voicetracking all of them (she was only doing Magic live) and be considered a part-time employee, getting paid a monthly flat rate for each of her stations. Dickerman will no longer be on the air, but will remain full-time in the web department; no word on who will take over for Dickerman.

I don't think it's indicative of station(s) being sold off. In my understanding, under current ownership rules, once the privitization of CC is finalized, they'd only have to sell one Orlando station. However, if the FCC loosens its ownership restrictions, CC may not have to get rid of any of the Orlando stations.

in my experience, Dickerman has always been a nice guy, but no real loss on the air. it seemed he had been voicetracking for the last several years, and once again, he was among the same cast of characters on JRR for the last decade and a half. hardly intriguing anymore, and along with terrible music, if JRR wasn't in battle (still, for crying out loud) with OCL, they might as well sell that station off! Or go to jockless-nights.

There was a transaction listing back in June or July for the stations WJRR, WTKS-FM, WQTM, WRUM, WFLF, and WXXL. And a thread about it.

Re: Clear Channel Clearing House '07! It's not just Orlando.

More info on this on the New York board, but cheap channel just fired Al Bernstein, a longtime on air & production guy for WLTW in New York. In the past two years they have fired nearly all of their origional on air staff in favor of newer voices (who will work for less money) voicetracking, and of cource Deliah. They also tinkered with the music mix too much and have re-imiged themselves twice. Since then that station has tanked in the ratings and it's are only going to continue.

It is an annual holiday tradition with CC. When I was in Cincy you could count on it...always the week after Thanksgiving...every year for like 8 years. Last year it was like 20 people. Happy Holidays!

I believe Dickerman is also part of 'Between the ropes' on 740 am with brian fritz, a professional wrestling writer who works for the sentinel.

why hasn't dan sileo been cut yet?

Enough speculation...here it is from one 'horses' mouth:

After 11 years working for this company, 3 radio stations - 3 diverse formats Modern Rock/Oldies/AC, at WSHE/Cool 100/Magic 107.7, 8 years at Magic alone, and great numbers – not to toot my own horn, but what the heck – I’ve more often than not, been the #1 Mid-day personality in Orlando, and often with the largest share in Orlando no matter the day part, Clear Channel is doing some serious downsizing, and yes…I’m one of the cuts. Across the country the company is 'reducing the body count', I was told.

I’m clearly a poster girl for working hard and doing more than what’s been asked. I’ve done the above, well represented my ‘family’ station, did what was asked of me and plenty more. I voicetrack 3 other Clear Channel stations too. (Melbourne and Tallahassee, FL, and El Paso, TX) and my situation clearly shows you that nothing is sacred now days..no job is safe, not only in radio, but in the current business climate in this country. (How many people do you know that are out of work right now? Thought so!)Great numbers, great track record, etc., really doesn’t mean a thing anymore – it doesn’t make your job ‘secure.’

You used to get a gold watch for good service.

I had the choice of being severanced, or staying on to voice track my mid day shift Magic at a greatly reduced rate. I also was under the pressure of a time limit to make my decision.

I’ve decided, for now, to stay. I need to work. The company is now going to set me up in my home studio, so I won’t have to be in the office daily, and I’ll be able to pursue other ‘avenues’ now, since I’ll have more time on my hands. I'm a free agent.

Change is the only consistency in life..and maybe this will be a good thing in the long run..I’ll be working for myself…sorta.

Disappointing? Extremely. Devistating? No - I have my 'big girl panties' on.

If anyone would like to be in touch, I’m at [email protected].

I can assure you that those stations were simply put in the Aloha Trust to preserve options for the company. The cluster is not for sale and I would bet that none of the stations get sold at any point in the short or long term future.

My sympathies, Brenda. I got kicked to the curb in 1994 and it was the best thing that ever happened to me professionally. I got out of radio and doubled my income within five years and now earn a little over three times what I made back then as an OM/PD/Morning sidekick/overnight voicetracker. The GM couldn't stand me, the only place for women to him was in sales.
Good luck.

typical clear channel way; a true professional gets let go and they keep a no-nothing, un-professional jerk like dan sileo? does he have pictures of somebody or they paying him minimum wage?

Clear Channel,
Please leave "The Philips Phile" exactly as it is. Although since you are "tinkering", maybe you can have it live on XM Radio Channel 152? Maybe as a Christmas Gift? ;)

Stuart

as I said on the Tampa thread Nothing will happen to Sileo.
He must have pictures of all the bosses at Clear Channel
That is the only way the worst radio personality in the History of radio is still on the air.
He will be around longer than Paul Harvey.

IM not so HO, for radio to regain its charm it needs to be re-envisioned from a business standpoint since that is what now drives the industry.
Talent has all along been what advertisers and audiences have "bought."
Talent allowed itself, in most cases, to be undersold. Air talent folk are artists, few are business people. Most of those I worked with or managed were just screwed up on top of that.
Talent needs agents or a solid union. Or to be born with an assigned salesperson who will insure they get paid well while the sales slug makes three times what the talent makes ;D
Back to my theory: the industry has to be brought to realize that without talent, live and local, they are third rate behind a 6-CD changer and satellite. I am not saying that all shifts have to be live, in weensy markets just 6-12noon would be fine if you paid the poor sod doing that shift decently.
That will never happen until talent puts a value on itself. And that's the problem.

Brenda, outside of that hellhole in Maitland, you are loved and respected. Nobody could belive
that Chirs and Linda could be that stupid, oh and Ken too. I know of people who plan to take advantage
of CC's ingorance as soon as they clear budget. You will work again, in a place that respects talent.
Seems to be a lot of former CC Stars, have made it good elsewhere. Look at who left in the last year

Something to chew on. Think about radio, just five years ago. Think about all those people that are no longer on the air/production/voice tracking/etc.

Fast forward five years and envision what radio will be like.

Sadly, it isn't going to get better and those with talent will hopefully find their way to companies that are obsessed with the bottom line.

And Brenda... YOU ROCK! I know you will be just fine. Just keep kicking butt.
