Clear Channel Format Lab

One of the more familiar sqawks here is that HD Radio offers more of the same programming heard on traditional FM stations.

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth...

Have you checked out Clear Channel's Format Lab? http://music.formatlab.net/

With rare exceptions, I can't hear most of those formats on regular AM and FM here!

There's an Americana channel, AAA, several dance formats, a hip-hop / rock hybrid channel, classic country, comedy, 70s/80s alternative, showtunes, all 80s, all party songs, standards and even a cardio/workout channel.

A few markets have Americana on traditional AM/FM, a few have AAA, many have classic country but many do not.

I've never heard a hip-hop / rock hybrid, 70s/80s alternative, showtunes, party songs or workout formatted station.

How someone could be so oblivious as to say HD Radio is more of the same is beyond me! ;D

With the deep Clear Channel cuts/restructuring, there will be less-and-less personnel available to do any HD programming. Oh boy, so now I get to hear hip-hop, party songs, dance formats, showtunes, etc. - no wonder, HD sales have been so anemic ! We have a number of AM/FM stations, in Wash., D.C. Metro, that have classic-rock and 70s/80s music - who cares about the rest of this junk ! Oh, and let's not forget about local traffic updates, too ! Yea, HD Radio is not just the same terrestrial radio junk, just more of it ! Yet, another HD Radio promotional piece ! :D

Those formats (or something very close) are already available on the internet. Did CC just copy their lead?

Hell, the latest John Sandford thriller (go Lucas Davenport!) could be "available on the internet", and it wouldn't do a damn thing for the dude riding down the road in his car (bad example I know...he probably shouldn't be reading, but you get my point). There are THOUSANDS of radio streams on the internet, and over the air. It would be pretty damn hard to find any format that didn't largely duplicate another one somewhere.

Same with faces! Twi eyes, two ears, nose, slightly crooked teeth. YOU STOLE YOUR FACE! There's another face on the internet just like yours! ;D

HD radio

Those are the sour grapes radio cynics, who will blather on that "radio sucks" no matter what. These are folks who spend a great deal of their time on radio boards, crying about the state of radio instead of actually doing something to improve their own lot.

And, they've been out there for decades, commonly referred to as "dead weight".
