One of those initatives is a Geraldo/Huckabee/Levin/Savage brand, it's horrible and against the wishes of local programmers and listeners (except Levin), but it hardly signals they are throwing in the towel.My point is that they have been creating format options this past year. They flipped KGO to all-news. They have CBS Sports Network as a major AM initiative. There is still a possibility of an Atlanta-based national news network. Lots of things in the works. Stay tuned. Don't call something BS until official action is taken.

Now, do they keep Huckabee as a 12-3 host or shift him as a lead in to Rush from 9 or 10 to 12? Better, don't expand Savage and have Huck follow Rush.
I think Huck would match up very well against Hannity and Savage can stay in nights. I'd say where he belongs, but he belongs off the air.

More horrible than a lineup that includes Limbaugh and Hannity? It's a tough call.
He is awful and the audience hates him. When I talk to listeners, they say 3 things:I know I'm out on a limb when I say this but I think Geraldo does a good show. I never liked his antics on TV but I think he may have identified what talk radio needs at this moment -- a show that's less partisan, less combative, more generally informative. He gets good guests (unlike Rush who has almost none, and Hannity and Imus who recycle the same talking heads each day,) he's good with callers, Noam Layden is an asset to the show, and he's a good commercial spokesperson -- let's not forget why the show is there in the first place.

That's exactly correct, and he's been doing that for years. I've often heard him use entire segments of his radio show (the ones preceding the TOH) to promo all the stuff on his agenda. If the station is not exclusively CC, Salem, or Cumulus owned, aren't they allowed to carry any talk show of their choosing for a respecitve time slot. For example they could mix and match from a variety of sources.
Using an example, one station could start out (using EST) with Bill Bennett 6-9, Killmeade and Friends 9-12, Mike Huckabee 12-3, Todd Schnitt 3-6, and Jason Lewis 6-9. Or one could do a local show 6-9, Mike Gallager 9-12, John Gibson 12-3, Sean Hannity 3-6, Roger Hedgecock 6-9.
I can go on, but the point is there are a lot of choices out there.

For a host that wants to make a point, having callers that agree is essential.
For a host that wants to have a "discussion", then having varying views is a good thing.
Some hosts mostly air calls that agree (Rush, Glenn Beck), and some hosts enjoy debating or making fun of disagreeing callers (Hannity, Levin).
It's just a format decision. One isn't better than the other, just a matter of taste.
