Clear Channel New Home to Hannity & Limbaugh?

False, Hannity had 50 sticks before he left Citadel. This cram down stuff was used for Levin and Hannity, not Hannity and Rush.
My 50 stations I mentioned earlier should have been 500+...

My point is that they have been creating format options this past year. They flipped KGO to all-news. They have CBS Sports Network as a major AM initiative. There is still a possibility of an Atlanta-based national news network. Lots of things in the works. Stay tuned. Don't call something BS until official action is taken.
One of those initatives is a Geraldo/Huckabee/Levin/Savage brand, it's horrible and against the wishes of local programmers and listeners (except Levin), but it hardly signals they are throwing in the towel.

Especially since three quarters of that bunch are conservative.

That construct was devised in anticpation that they might drop Rush.

Now, do they keep Huckabee as a 12-3 host or shift him as a lead in to Rush from 9 or 10 to 12? Better, don't expand Savage and have Huck follow Rush.

I think Huck would match up very well against Hannity and Savage can stay in nights. I'd say where he belongs, but he belongs off the air.

For once I agree with you. If - and it's still and if despite all the wishful thinking - Cumulus hangs onto Rush, Huckabee would be much stronger in late morning or PM drive than Savage. Ideally, late morning with local shows in PM drive. But hanging onto Rush means either Premiere is willing to back down on their fees or Cumulus is willing to back down and swallow their current (exorbitant) fees. Maybe some of each because Rush clearly is not worth what he was a few years ago.

One of those initatives is a Geraldo/Huckabee/Levin/Savage brand, it's horrible ...

More horrible than a lineup that includes Limbaugh and Hannity? It's a tough call.

So who gets the afternoon slots if they become available?

I know I'm out on a limb when I say this but I think Geraldo does a good show. I never liked his antics on TV but I think he may have identified what talk radio needs at this moment -- a show that's less partisan, less combative, more generally informative. He gets good guests (unlike Rush who has almost none, and Hannity and Imus who recycle the same talking heads each day,) he's good with callers, Noam Layden is an asset to the show, and he's a good commercial spokesperson -- let's not forget why the show is there in the first place.

Huckabee is the anti-Rush -- Saccharine beyond belief. I liked Huckabee as a politician but I can't stand him on the air. Levin is a one man rant-fest. Savage is making an obvious attempt to tone it down but he has the reputation of being a maniacal loose cannon and that will take some time to shake, if it's even possible. People still listen to Rush and Imus because of who they once were -- listeners may well avoid Savage because of who they think he still is (his radio presence, that is.)

It is funny, the conservo websites say Hannity is firing Cumulus, and the lib sites say Cumulus is firing Hannity.

Hannity seems to spend very little time providing content but relies on guests and TV tie -ins. 'We will have Newt, then coming up will be Ann Coulter, don't forget to check in with us tonight on Fox and we will have Newt and Ann Coulter. Coming up tomorrow we will have Marco Rubio, and don't forget to check us on the TV tomorrow and we will have Marco..blah blah. " He seems like an announcer than a commentator.

I would rather hear Savage talk about meatballs.

Mr Ed just announced he is going back to msnbc m-f instead of weekends.

Not even close. Talk to some actual talk radio people and see what we are saying.

He is awful and the audience hates him. When I talk to listeners, they say 3 things:

1. Something about my show
2. Rush
3. How much they HATE Geraldo

You aren't a talk radio fan, obviously.

It's neither, it's a failure to come to an agreement being spun by idiots to fit their politics.

Mr Ed just announced he is going back to msnbc m-f instead of weekends.
He claimed the last move was a promotion, so this is a demotion.

That's exactly correct, and he's been doing that for years. I've often heard him use entire segments of his radio show (the ones preceding the TOH) to promo all the stuff on his agenda. When he not listing upcoming appearances he listing talking points so indeed there's virtually no actual content on Hannity's show.

You aren't a talk radio fan, obviously.
Stick with what you can prove, pal.

Hannity does his show like a music jock. He resets every break and repeats everything over and over. It's good for people who aren't listening for long, but it's horrible if you want to listen for an entire show.

Hopefully some information about who conceded what in this Cumulus/Limbaugh deal emerges. I'd sure like to know who caved more.

I think because Hannity is getting dropped for a less expensive alternative Cumulus is likely paying close, if not exactly the current rate, or even paying more for Rush. I have nothing to support this, it's just an observation.

Both of them still are likely to switch to WOR in New York. The details should emerge soon.

So the assumption is that because Premiere offers a caller service, and Rush is a Premiere show, that therefore Rush uses the Premiere caller service?

There's a big gap in that logic.

Since when is logic a requirement for bashing Rush on this board?

Logic is often a hindrance and causes those people the same pains as were felt by the HAL 9000.

I was once listed with a service that provided fake callers for radio shows back in the late 90's. It was out of NYC. I lived in NNJ. Sometimes they would want just a regular voice, male or female or maybe an accent ..southern, british..whatever. One day I saw their number on my caller ID when I got home.. but it was too late to participate. Never got any more calls. Never thought about Political Talk shows using fake callers.. but I do notice most callers agree with the host. Just heard Red Eye Radio last night 8/20/13 out of Dallas and the caller around 56:15 on the podcast.. guy named Bob, sounds alot like the nut Glenn Beck has on his most recent promo..saying he doesnt want to make a point just wanted to be on the radio.. I was thinking this guy could be a comedian. Doubt Eric and Gary are paying for a phone call. This Bob guy from Milwaukee didnt get too nutty as he did with Glenn Beck. The voice sounded the same to me though. I could be wrong.

Even though he seems to do a repetitive show for simpletons, I guess he has gotten $25 million a year for doing it? or every 4 years ? So give him credit.

Hannity's "welcome aboard" are we getting on a ship, a boat, a train, a bus, or a what???

(That Mr Ed, Chris Mathews musical chair deal? is the boring Hayes changing time slots? or going bye bye? He should get a brow wax or lose the glasses.)

If the station is not exclusively CC, Salem, or Cumulus owned, aren't they allowed to carry any talk show of their choosing for a respecitve time slot. For example they could mix and match from a variety of sources.

Using an example, one station could start out (using EST) with Bill Bennett 6-9, Killmeade and Friends 9-12, Mike Huckabee 12-3, Todd Schnitt 3-6, and Jason Lewis 6-9. Or one could do a local show 6-9, Mike Gallager 9-12, John Gibson 12-3, Sean Hannity 3-6, Roger Hedgecock 6-9.

I can go on, but the point is there are a lot of choices out there.

Yes, as long as they aren't cleared by other stations.

For a host that wants to make a point, having callers that agree is essential.

For a host that wants to have a "discussion", then having varying views is a good thing.

Some hosts mostly air calls that agree (Rush, Glenn Beck), and some hosts enjoy debating or making fun of disagreeing callers (Hannity, Levin).

It's just a format decision. One isn't better than the other, just a matter of taste.

My station airs a combination of Premiere and Dial Global shows. After my show: Rush, Hannity, Dave Ramsey, Dennis Miller, Coast to Coast. On weekends we do the usual Kim Kommando and Fox Sports filler stuff.

Thanks so much for clarifying talk shows. I was wondering if some hosts were just liberal baiting to get into heated debates. I recently was disillusioned by a conservative host I liked alot. I wrote an email disagreeing on one topic. He wrote back restating his case and said "have a good night." Then a minute later he reads my email at the beginning of the show.. He and his staff laugh at my letter and mock every thing I said and he calls me a liberal with no sense of humor. I am not a liberal ..but have more conservative-libertarian type views. I wrote back and told him .."if he knew me he would not think I was a liberal and that I was also a comedy writer." Didn't mention my radio past writing comedy for a morning show and creative service director for a couple radio stations in the past. He never wrote back to apologize. He says he bases his opinions on facts. "Correct me if I 'm wrong" he says. Clearly in my case he had no facts to label me a liberal. So I figured he just used my email to get his liberal debate fix. His partner had talked about reading the letter in their show prep meeting. LOL .. Damn.. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in that meeting.. But it was fun to hear it read on the air. I didn't care he disagreed with me.. I just think he should have written back an email which could have taken all of 5 seconds to apologize and thank someone for listening.

Unfortunately there are hosts that are just jerks. It's more common than you'd think.

Hey, Mr. Writer, the paragraph is your friend -- how 'bout using 'em?

I think you've missed the point that what goes on 'behind the scenes' is irrelevant. It's the show that matters. There are plenty of jerks who are great entertainers -- not just in radio but music and acting as well. It's better not to dig too deep.
