Clear Channel rumors

There's a rumor on another board that WJJZ will flip to CHR as "106.1 Kiss Fm", and Q102 will flip to Rhythmic AC as "The New Q102". Sounds kinda far-fetched to me, but oh well. I don't live in Philadelphia.

A few weeks ago I may have bought into the WJJZ rumor, given they sounded like they were doing away with the moniker "smooth jazz," opting instead for the generic-sounding "WJJZ 106.1," but now they're calling themself "smooth jazz" again, and they seem to have a new afternoon-drive host (Selina something or other). So I would say it's probably untrue. Sounds like they'll be sticking with the format for at least another year. The latest ratings, however, were less than amazing for them. But that could be attributed to Christmas.

Really far-fetched in my opinion. A Rhythmic AC would just steal the CHR's upper demos, not to mention give DAS another competitor. And why kill a heritage CHR for a "Kiss-FM"?

I don't think JJZ is going anywhere for a while anyway.

It's not that I don't think Rhythmic AC would do well in the market--if it's done right, I think it could make plenty of coin--but why wouldn't they just put it on 106.1 if they're looking to get rid of the WJJZ format? Why confuse their existing CHR (Q102) audience, giving them a chance to sample Wired?

I don't think this particular rumor has any legs at all.

The New Q102?

Anybody out there remember when Q102 was 'New' for like five years about a decade ago... the more things change the more they stay the same.

*Sigh* Another day, another moronic "Q102 is going to flip and become _____" theory.
______________

I don't think it's TOO far-fetched to see an eventual relaunch of "Hometown Radio - The New Q102". The station had a great run, and a really memorable in-your-face attitude in 1989-93ish, that females aged 28-40 would remember.

There was something on All Access the other day about some consultant-type people (I forget the name) who've come up with a new Rhythmic AC format for women 28-40 who have outgrown the current rap/hip-hop-leaning CHR thing, aren't into the rock lean of most hot AC's and variety hit Jack/Ben/etc. stations, and aren't ready for AC yet.

All they'd have to do is run a really big "switch to the new frequency for today's hit music" promotion/stunt on 102.1.

Would be kind of neat to hear the likes of Coro, Noel, Lisa Lisa, and Samantha Fox on the 102.1 frequency again on a regular basis :) (Not that I'm in the area all that much, but still...)
______________

It's called Movin. Sounds like a neat format.
