Clear Channel The Grinch

I remember one of the first things Clear Channel did when they took over 104.1 was to discontinue their news department. It was the first indicator for me of the things to come. And sure enough, CC has not disappointed!

when exactly did WTKS have a news department? i worked there in the mid to late 90s and the only news we go was supplied by wayne trout's staff at 740 WINZ.

I interned for Ed Tyll in the mid 90's and I remembered it. WTKS was off from Lee Road near I-4 at the time. They were still owned by Press Broadcasting when I started and transitioned to Paxson Communications. The two people I specifically remember were Kathy Taylor (News Director) and Carol Dedman. I also remember Moria reading the news before Jim's show, but I can't remember if she was originally a member of the news department before they discontinued it and she transitioned to Jim's show. I also recall hearing a guy on the air named Robert William Milford III. All if their names and others are on that CFLRadio.net website. They even acknowledge Kathy Taylor being the News Director.

yes, i do remember them calling cathy taylor the news director. she would do the news for the tyll show and moira would pick up for phillips. i do remember carol dedman and drew garabo - and later melissa foxx - doing the news thang the hour before stern hit the air at 6am, that was 1997 - i believe cathy was gone by then - and we had just moved over to maitland from the lee rd location. I was hired when the studio was in the lee rd building.

I thought the news department was top notch! Kathy Taylor was a really nice lady! I always liked 104.1 back then, I thought the station had some edge in town. Back in the day when Phillips was busting the local media's chops. Even the music on the weekends was one of a kind. 104.1 has strayed so far away from its roots.

Tuddle back on the Monsters .. that's like a lump of coal in your stocking ... but with Dirty Jim gone for the year, Russ & Drunky have a hard time carrying the show on their own.

I worked there during that period. What a time! Back when you could take chances and really do some "Real Radio!" I'll be forever grateful to Rich Boerner and Jay Clark for that opportunity. Merry Christmas!

Hats off to taking chances! That's the direction I was trying to describe. I remember hearing those names on the air. I really wished my internship lasted longer. It was really a great time to be around there.

Not a fan of Tuddle at all. Good luck with that lineup, CC.
