ClearChannel Parking Call Signs For CW

Re: KSTW -> KSCW?

It's a long story, trust me. In fact, KING wasn't fond of having a KONG in the neighborhood at first since another company entered the market with the callsign, but when the FCC made it possible to operate the station under a JSA, they warmed to it, and eventually bought it.

BTW (to an earlier poster): I've lived in Western WA virtually all of my life, so I'm familiar with the meaning of KSTW's callsign. I don't expect it will change, but you never know...

While the station is officially licensed to Tacoma, the station decided to go with the name people commonly use in referring to it's service area - the "Seattle-Tacoma" area, hence KSTW. The station was physically located in Tacoma for many years until the building was sold to public station KBTC. The station's tower is on Capital Hill in Seattle, teamed up with Chs. 9 & 22 in overlooking the stadia below.

And Tacoma wouldn't. In fact, I seriously doubt the City of Tacoma would even notice.

Just my opinion though...

Cheers :)

What planet did you just get home from Garrett? KONG 6/16 has been on the air for the last SEVERAL YEARS. And if I'm not mistaken, KONG 6/16 is the local i/PAX affiliate (Soon to be independent once the network finally goes under though).

Both KING 5 and KONG 6/16 are owned & operated by A.H. Belo Broadcasting and share the same resources (i.e. news, etc).

Cheers :)

Agreed.

And I **SERIOUSLY** doubt Tribune will drop the HERITAGE calls of its ORIGINAL group of stations for something as vanitious as specialized calls just to show their affiliation to the CW network. That honorable group, BTW, being none other than...

KWGN 2 Denver
KTLA 5 Los Angeles
WGN 9 Chicago
WPIX 11 New York

There are probably a couple of others, but those are the biggies.

If they do, we Hams could EASILY make fun of it (especially if they don't add MORSE CODE as their signature like NBC does with the chimes) :)

Just my opinion :)

Cheers :)

That's a little harsh, don't you think?

And by the way, I'm from Kronos 9...

----------
KONG is not an i/PAX affiliate. It is independent and although it has some infomercials in the daytime, it timeshifts a number of programs seen on KING including Dr. Phil, Oprah, and local news.

The local i/PAX affiliate is KWPX/33, and during its PAX affiliation its administration offices were shared with KING.

I think Podcaster Pat is the one from another planet. Just kidding.
______________

It's not just CC!

And perhaps answering the Burlington/Plattsburgh CW question, too: the new channel 40 in Saranac Lake NY has applied for calls WCWF. It'll probably sign on as a DTV.
______________
