Cleveland Radio

I think Maria is live, I've seen her do a live break before Alan Cox comes on on the webcam for Alan's show.

Also, you forgot WDOK:

Mornings (local)
Middays (local)
Afternoons (local)
Nights (syndicated)

Also, WENZ has Tropikana after Latin Assassin on weeknights and she's live and local.

Commenting on Replies Nos. 16 & 17: You're right about the so-called "popular" formats getting more attention in the industry than classical does. The music and presentation tend to be so low-key and different that (1) those who don't have a taste for classical avoid it and (2) those who love classical send down a tap root -- our TSL seems to be fairly high.

A Movie Quiz caller recently said, "You have no idea how many 'rockers' listen to you." He claimed that "they" were tired of some of the morning drive personalities, and that WCLV offered "sane radio." Of course, sanity is relative, but the compliment was appreciated all the same.

After re-reading most of the posts on this topic, I must join in the giving of props & respect to WDLW and WOBL. Live and local much of the time on small AM signals. Aren't you tired of hearing nationally syndicated talk on lots of AM stations? WDLW has a great music mix and they have local newscasts along with their music format. I understand that life on the AM band can be tough these days, but WDLW/WOBL must be doing something right. They have the infastructure for local music hosts, local newscasters and local sports people. Good job!

Disclaimer: I've met owners Doug and Lorie Wilbur several times, and have assisted in their sports department during the high school football season for several years.

I give lots of credit to Doug and Lorie for keeping WOBL and WDLW locally-owned and programmed throughout this entire era. They air both formats with no syndicated input or corporate-imposed playlist restrictions. Not to mention live remotes throughout the region, and an actual news department.

Recently they even had a new studio built for WDLW, and one for WOBL is forthcoming, if not so already. Signal maintenance is kept top-notch - since they took over WDLW, they've done everything possible to get the very most out of WDLW's 57 nighttime watts.

Heck, both stations will be streaming online on a 24/7 basis very soon!

Let's not forget that small FM station on Route 59 in Kent - WNIR 100.1, which can be heard in parts of Cleveland and the suburbs.

Weekdays:
5:30-10:00AM - The Morning Show with Stan Piatt, Steve French, Maggie Fuller, and now Phil Ferguson (local)
10:00-3:00PM - Howie Chizek (local)
3:00-7:00PM - Bob Golic (local)
7:00-11:00PM - Tom Erickson (local)

17.5 hours local Monday thru Friday

Saturdays:
6:00-9:00AM - The Morning Show (local)
9:00-12:00PM - Howie Chizek or Jim Isabella (local)
12:00-4:00PM - Bob Golic or Jim Isabella (local)
4:00-7:00PM - Tom Erickson (local)
7:00 -10:00PM - Bob Earley (local)

16 hours local on Saturday

Sundays:
9:00-7:00PM - The Advice Line with Bob Lewis and Various Guest (local)
7:00-10_00PM - Bob Earley (local)

13 hours local on Sunday

116.5 hours local on a weekly basis.

Is Jim Isabella a regular Saturday type now, filling in for whoever isn't working that day (either Howie or Bob)? Is he regular enough to put on the schedule?

And by "Various Guest" with Bob Lewis on Sunday, you mean "Various Sponsors". Though Bob does break out with local talk or entertainment when there's a non-sponsored segment...

Don't think Jim is a regular. Just a fill-in when Bob Earley can't make it for vacation days, sick days, and so forth.

I was listening online Saturday morning and Jim was sitting in for Stan, who lost his voice. He did a decent job. The morning show suffers when Stan is not on because Maggie and Steve just can't hold that show together. Jim has been doing Howie's Saturday in-studio show more often. It could be that Howie is cutting back on his schedule, which after 38 years continuously on 100.1 should be expected.
