"Click 98-9: Modern Music" - and - Golden Oldies!

98.9 might not be the ideal radio station at the moment, but we should reflect on what Hubbard media is doing correctly.

Warm 106.9 and Movin' are both brilliant. Both stations have excellent imaging. The music selection on warm is also fantastic, and for all the complaints about tight playlists around here I think warm should be hailed for their variety. Last but not least, hosts like Shellie Hart and AJ make the station fun to listen to.

Steering this thread back OT (can we pls save the geek discussions for the engineering forums?), you're absolutely right about those 2 stations. Maybe Marc and the consultants just want to use Click as a flanker rather than cannibalize the other 2 stations, in which cause we may see additional changes...

It's been almost two years but I think that row of studios goes, KJR-FM, KUBE, KJR-AM, KBKW then KKBW. If not then then KKBW is across the hall in one of the production-voicetrack rooms. All I could think was how lucky they were to be accross from my favorite Baskin-Robbins I always visited when I worked at KZOK/SRO. A perfect day was a field trip to Tacoma screw and Baskin-Robbins.

Hmm and if that's the studio, then where's KBKS? I thought they were along that row too.

As you walk into the 'Newer" location of Cheap Channel/iBarf Radio, after passing the sales floor and programming/traffic offices.. the rows of studios are:

KJR-FM
KJR-AM
KBKS
KUBE
KNBQ? - Now 102.9fm
KKBW

KKBW actually has 2 studios - One in Seattle next to the KUBE Studio and the other in Tacoma (Former Funky Monkey studio).

HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! It's funny because they used to be named "Clear Channel" and now their name is "iHeartMedia". Damn, that's clever!

VERY clever! I think another intrepid poster coined the name "iHeartless Media"...

What's really funny is that somehow this thread veered from what's loaded in the Factoria AudioVAULT computers to studios owned by a completely different company.

Don't forget iFartMedia....

The list can go on:

iHeartMedia
iBarfMedia
iHeartlessMedia
iFartMedia
iHateMedia
DieHeartMedia
DieHardMedia
PieHeartMedia
LieHeartMedia
TieHeartMedia
WhyHeartMedia
ByeHeartMedia
HiArtMedia

Any others you can think of?

Are you sure? I thought it was downtown ... top floor of a classic office building very close to the old Winthrop (appox. 9th & Broadway).

Actually.. The one by the Tacoma Mall is the very old KNBQ Studios when it was "Super Q" back in the day.. The KKBW studio is on the 12th floor on 950 Pacific Ave in Tacoma.. It's a closed studio with only a few sales people working out of there, they keep the studio alive with no one operating it for FCC purposes. Kevin the Busman was the last person using that studio when it was called "Q-Country 102.9." Well, except for me when they canned him and used me as a replacement until they finally flipped the format.

Funky Monkey's Tacoma studios were in the Rust Building (now called the Commerce Building) on the top floor (950 Pacific Avenue - the old KHHO studios IIRC).

The area that was the sales department became the home for StreamAudio.com until that company was sold. Once CC bought Funky Monkey the place was shut down.

And...once again, trying to steer this thread back OT...looks like Click made some inroads in April, especially 18-49 - not too much improvement, but improvement nonetheless. Will be interesting to see how the recent changes score next month.

It's going to take a lot more time to measure success or failure than just two months. Then again Kaye has shown he's undisciplined enough to toss a morning show in less than a year.

And it also depends on what the definition of "success" is for Click. It's certainly not going to be the station to knock off the market leader...

Listened today for a bit - music mix is about the same, but the consultant has decluttered the presentation. Talkovers are short and sweet - no back/frontsells, just promos and no mention of the station's name. Even recorded stuff don't mention Click, except during the TOH ID.

I happen to like "Click" alot, yet it seems like they and the other cume-duplicated stations are jocking around every week for the right fit. For example, I will switch back and forth between 107.7 and 98.9 and sometimes will be unsure of which station I am listening to. I think the issue with Click is that they are still trying to find their way. I wish they would simply settle with their branding and then run with it. One way they could separate themselves out is to go a little closer to KNHC, not the dance, but the Electronic. EDM is huge in Europe and C89 does a great deal with what they have.

In summary, I'd like to see the Click format enmeshed in a format triangle between 107.7--98.9---89.5. I guess it will be interesting to see how the station evolves.
