Cole: out

After more than 20 years on the KVET Morning Show, Bob Cole is out.
Love him or hate him, you have to respect what he accomplished with KVET, and KOKE/MAJIC before that.
If I were at a competing cluster, I'd grab him and his endorsement sponsorships.

Frankly, I never cared for some of Bob Cole's work, but there's absolutely no denying his accomplishments here in Austin both in and outside of the broadcast media. I hope he lands in a wonderful place.

And the last reason to listen to 98.1 has indeed...left the building.

Without a doubt it's better to be Bob Cole without KVET than KVET without Bob Cole.

GM Pam McKay confirmed to Gary Dinges of the Austin American Statesman that Bob is, in fact, out.

The departure of Bob Cole brings to an end an era at K-VET-FM. I enjoyed a nearly 25-year relationship working with Bob Cole, and I can honestly say I have NEVER known a more professional radio personality in my nearly 50-year career. When it came to knowing the community, Bob was THE connected air personality in Austin. And, as a spokesman for a commercial client, Bob is unsurpassed in his ability to sell a product or service. The radio business will miss him, but, I’ll bet that he won’t miss the radio business, given it’s current sorry state of affairs. Best of luck, Bob.

Even though most of us knew it was going to happen, it's still sad to see it go down and I'm sure the CC koolaid drinkers will somehow find a way to spin it positive, after all when you're one of the last 4 or 5 working for the company you can't afford to rock the boat or be honest...

Wow, Best of luck to Bob.

Personally, I love this quote from Pam McKay, market manager for Clear Channel's Austin and San Antonio stations. "We have not made any specific decisions yet but will continue with the momentum of the morning show as it currently stands," McKay said. I guess then that poor old Bob just couldn't stand being a part of something that was gathering so much momentum in its current format.... ;)

Momentum can either be uphill or downhill. I'll let you decide which type the K-VET morning show has been on. Is this what they call a "no-brainer?" And, where's dallasboyz when you really need him?

Someone has done a very good job of taking a good product and ruining it. I dont work in the industry but as a longtime radio listener I know that KVET FM now stinks. Great job whoever you are. You should be real proud of yourself.

I agree 100% Not just the morning show, but the whole playlist in the day stinks.

Anyone remember when Bob Cole was mornings at KOKE and he won the RX-7 from Dave Jarrot on Key 103? I heard the entire thing live and it was fantastic radio. Cole was a stunned as Jarrot was.

One small problem with that theory: another Austin station has been running a heavy promo campaign this week stating that W&J will be starting in January.

If you look, it's also on K___'s website; I'll let y'all figure it out ;)

Is Bender still on? I almost never listen to KVET any more, but I tried to tune in some this morning and all I heard was music.

He's still one of the 3 jocks listed on the website. And what was the morning show page is now just bender....since he seemed to be mostly a between songs liner type of jock, I wouldn't expect much from him in way of originality, info and entertainment.

Being new to Austin, I probably should keep my opinions to myself since I am a "new" KVET listener and don't know the history of the station. But, being from Houston where the three country stations KKBQ, KKHT and KILT are really bad...I found KVET to be a nice change. I enjoy the playlist because I don't hear Taylor Swift, Keith Urban and all of the other overplayed "country wanna be" artists as well as the really old and boring stuff played on KKHT. I also like the fact that the songs are not sped up to the point of being unrecognizable. I enjoy hearing the Star Spangled Banner and the Eyes of Texas everyday at noon...and I enjoy hearing music in the morning without all of the yak that the Houston morning shows churn out.

When did KKHT change formats and how come I didn't get the memo? If I had known that, I would have done the morning show on KKHT instead of KNTH, where we play the Star Spangled banner every morning.
