Columbus Indiana staff retirements

Recently, two very long time non-air staff employees of the White River Broadcasting stations retired. One, a long time office manager retired at the first of the year, a dedicated hard working lady and possibly one of the longest tenure radio salespersons retired the first of this month, well into his forth decade of selling commercials. I'm sure there are a number of under-the-radar, hard working people in Indiana radio such as traffic, production directors, engineers, office managers, front desk staff, that never make this board, but have been in the trenches doing their jobs very well supporting management and the voices on-air.

The two who recently left White River saw hundreds of air staff and marketing people come and go during their time and could probably write a book about their adventures in Indiana radio. Fifty years of combined experience at one radio station group may not be rare, but is noteworthy.

This is a thanks to you under-the-radar Indiana radio family who make it all happen so the bosses can make money and the air staff can do their magic.

I thought this post would elicit a few positive comments about the good people in radio that do their jobs well and make the radio station a place you want to come into each morning. This board seems to have plenty of slice and dice of individuals and stations, but once in a while I do read some positive comments.

We all in radio have worked with jerks, psychos, the clueless, the know-it-all jock, the obnoxious salesperson, the poor manager, but I find them out classed by all the good people at the station. Generally the bad ones fall to the side and the good ones stay. Do you find that to be true or am I just an eternal optimist?

Without names, I suspect most didn't know who you were talking about. Gordon is a great guy. He'll be missed. Only Sam remains from what I consider to be the WCSI halcyon days at the corner of 5th and Washington. People like Sam, Jim Kuiper, Marilyn Smith, Marty Brown...all remembered with the highest of esteem. A grand tradition that Mike King carries on today at Q-Mix. How could one small city have experienced so many great broadcasters? Truly someplace special.

That TM package really sucked.

You can only hear someplace special so many times. nice tie in with the station though.

We had some special times at WCSI in the mid-late 70's...and Gordon was right there financing our fun. His dedication to radio was undisputable...the Sam Simmermaker of sales folks. Whatever the next chapter of life holds for Gordon, I wish him everything he hopes for & more.
