Coming This Fall on Local TV?

The new TV season is only over four months, so changes are likely to be made for the local stations' syndicated line-ups.

We already know WEWS is introducing Scripps' in-house shows on weeknights from 7-8PM, replacing "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy!," which is moving to WOIO.

I'm curious as to what new shows are coming along with more changes and possibly even more cancellations and droppings.

I recall reading that Katie Couric's new show picked up by WEWS (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvspy/katie-finds-a-home-in-minneapolis-st-louis-and-nashville_b29164), and Jeff Probst's show picked up by WJW (http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/56177/jeff-probst-clearences-top-80-of-us). I also read that "Swift Justice" was cancelled.

There's only one new off network sitcom debuting in the fall, which is CBS' "Rules of Engagement", and that'll probably wind up on either 43 or 55.

"Are We There, Yet?" - another in the line of Tyler Perry produced TBS sitcoms - is coming in the fall as well, and I'd think 55 would get it, seeing as it has other Perry/TBS shows like "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns"

Steve Harvey and Ricki Lake have new talk shows coming out as well.

And there's "Dish Nation", highlighting morning DJ's talking pop culture and current events, which will be a daily 1/2 hour show.

The Jerry Springer hosted GSN game show "Baggage" will be syndicated in the fall.

And off network hour long shows like "Castle" and "Private Practice" will be seen on the weekends.

Also keep an eye out for shows that became syndicated last year, but weren't picked up by a Cleveland station, like "American Dad", "Futurama" and "Cash Cab".

I think "Cash Cab" is or was on Mansfield's WMFD Channel 68. That seems to become a place where shows not seen in Cleveland go to.

Just read an article that Ricki Lake is going to be in Cleveland on a Tribune station, yet that company doesn't own a station locally, though the company appears to have an agreement with Local TV LLC, which owns WJW Channel 8.

That means Ricki is likely going to be on WJW, which is going to have to fill holes in the schedule. I assume 11AM and 1PM will have the new shows (Ricki Lake and Jeff Probst) replacing the extra hour of "Judge Judy" and the now-cancelled "Swift Justice."

For all intents and purposes. Local TV is a subsidiary of Tribune.

So we'll probably see Lake and Probst on either side of the noon news.

"Cash Cab" is another show that could make it's way up to either 43 or 55 since the off network rerun roster for the fall is scarce.

Steve Harvey's new show would probably go to 43, since they also run the Harvey hosted "Family Feud", and Katie Couric has long wrapped up the soon to be open 3 p.m. slot on WEWS.

That Hollywood Reporter article does actually list WJW at the bottom, along with some other Local TV sister stations (Denver, etc.) with proper ownership notation.

Tribune and Local TV are as far as I know still co-managed, though it's not an automatic that Local TV outlets will pick up the same stuff as Tribune stations. Remember, Bill Cunningham's Tribune TV talk show never showed up here...and as far as I know, there are no plans to put it on Fox 8.

Cunningham's show will be seen nationally on The CW in the fall (as a network daytime show replacing Dr Drew's "Life Changers").

This season for Cunningham was for all intents and purposes, a trial run before the national network roll-out.

Oh, I forgot all about that CW deal. Presumably, that puts him on WBNX, no?

Anyway, the main point is still that a Tribune clearance/project doesn't necessarily automatically extend to the Local TV stations, despite the relationship between the two companies.

Yep, Bill Cunningham's show is in fact gonna be a network show, and channel 55 (and all other CW stations) will carry it at 3 p.m. M-F beginning in September.

And I also agree that the Tribune/Local TV connection doesn't guarentee anything, but it does increase the odds.

I only asked about 55 because I don't know what options CW affiliates have to pre-empt the non-prime schedule.

I do believe, without double-checking, that WBNX carries Wendy Williams' CW-based show.

Wendy Williams is a syndicated show, not CW.

In the CW's previous incarnation as the WB, the network aired cartoons in the afternoon. Once it morphed into the CW, they went into more adult fare (reruns of "ER" and various sitcoms).

In 2008 they picked up Tyra Banks' show from syndication, and aired it until last year, when Dr. Drew took over with his "Life Changers" show, and in September, Cunningham takes over.

I assume affiliates could pre-empt CW Daytime if they wanted to, but WBNX has always carried whatever WB/CW aired in the afternoons, so I see no reason to believe they'd change now.

Ah, I was getting Wendy Williams and Tyra Banks confused, probably because Wendy's still on the air on 55.

(I don't log a lot of viewing time with WBNX in most time slots.)

Wendy actually was on WUAB in the mornings when she went national in 2009, then moved to 55 in 2010 because they could air the show in the afternoon, while 43 couldn't (they've been airing the (cough) intelectually sitmulating Springer/Maury/Wilkos troika in the afternoons for ever, and Wendy didn't fit the motif

Boy, you're not kidding about that, vjm. "Which of these things is not like the other?", as the question goes.

I forgot Wendy was on 43, though she's now been on 55 for longer than her run at WUAB.

Just saw a promo for Steve Harvey's new show. It will air at 2PM weekdays on Channel 8. That's usually when Divorce Court and Judge Alex airs. Big changes are underway.

So that's three of the big new talk shows on 8. Probst, Lake and now Harvey. Maybe the possibly discarded court shows will move to 43 or 55. They can go well with Judge Mathis or The People's Court.

There's one more new syndicated talk show in the mix for fall, and that's British import Tisha Goddard.

It's very possible "Divorce Court" and "Judge Alex" could move to 43 or 55, but don't discount them simply being moved to late-night slots on 8.

Just saw promos for Jeff Probst and Ricki Lake on FOX 8 earlier.

Jeff will air at 1PM, replacing Swift Justice, and Ricki Lake will air at 3PM, which is when Judge Joe Brown usually airs.

Looks like a total revamp is taking place at South Marginal.

WBNX has just released their new fall lineup, which I'll post here:

http://www.wbnx.com/schedule/index_fall.php

Among the highlights, we have TV 55 picking up both "Judge Alex" and "Divorce Court" from channel 8 (who has a whole slate of new talk shows coming in). This now gives 55 a new daily court/cop show block with "The People's Court" and "Law And Order: CI" in the mix as well.

WBNX is also picking up the only 2 off-network sitcoms coming out for fall; "Rules of Engagement" and "Are We There Yet". the former being from CBS, and the latter from TBS.

Weekends see off-network dramas "Private Practice" and "Castle" (both from ABC) joining the schedule, as well as "Storm Stories" (from The Weather Channel), and "Jerimiah", a Showtime series which will no doubt be edited for broadcast TV.

Bill Cunningham's talk show joins the daily schedule, as it's being picked up nationally by the CW to replace Dr Drew's "Life Changers". And WWE returns to the CW on Saturday mornings with "Saturday Morning Slam" (remember the CW used to carry "Smackdown" when they first formed from the remnants of UPN and the WB).

Notable shows leaving the schedule include "Everybody Hates Chris" and "E! True Hollywood Story" from weekdays, and "Ugly Betty" and "Heartland" from weekends (all probably due to them no longer being offered in syndication).

That's cool that WBNX is picking up the discarded court shows. A nice change of pace for the station instead of having brand new shows that come and go like they had on 55 in the past.

That is one gamble WJW is taking with the new talk shows. I thought they were successful with the court shows, but it was getting a bit oversaturated at one point. I guess 8 will "Judge Joe Brown" somewhere or not at all. I do hope "Judge Judy" is cut to two airings instead of four.

The most logical step would be moving "Judge Joe Brown" up to the 11 a.m. hour.

Assuming they do that, the Fox 8 lineup could something like this:

4:30-10 a.m. - Fox 8 News in the Morning
10 a.m. - New Day Cleveland
11 a.m. - Judge Joe Brown X2
noon - News
1 p.m. - Jeff Probst
2 p.m. - Steve Harvey
3 p.m. - Ricki Lake
4 p.m. - Judge Judy X2
5-7:30 p.m. - News
7:30 p.m. - Big Bang Theory
8-10 p.m. - FOX programming
10 p.m. - News
11 p.m. - Big Bang Theory
11:30 - Seinfeld
midnight - TMZ
12:30 a.m. - New Adventures of Old Christine
1 a.m. - 10 O'Clock News replay
2 a.m. - Access Hollywood
2:30-3:30 a.m. - Infomercials
3:30 a.m. - Seinfeld
4 a.m. - King of the Hill

Now this is just a guess going by what's already been announced, and what is already in place, so there could be some tweaks here and there (especially late nights), but this is at least a base to work off of.
