Coming This Fall on Local TV?

More likely, they felt 8 PM Sunday was the time slot they wanted to run BC&LJ in, and they didn't care what was on Antenna TV at the time.

They could run it at 9 PM, as WKRP in Cincinnati runs two hours, but don't suggest that too loudly...I like the fact 'KRP is on two hours. :D

The thing is, Barney Miller is only aired one night a week (Sunday), so it really doesn't make sense. They could pre-empty something that is aired more frequently. Maybe someone at 8 doesn't like Barney Miller. Whatever the reason, I will get to the bottom of it.

BC & LJ are icons in this town, and their show is a perfect mesh with Antenna TV.

In all honesty, most people in Cleveland would gladly sacrifice "Barney Miller" for BC & LJ every day of the week and (literally) twice on Sunday.

I would gladly sacrifice any reality, drama, newscast and informercial for BC and LJ anytime. Heck, I can watch 72 hours of skits from them every week.

Nothing they do gets old, and is always worth watching anytime. They're also the only thing to me worth watching locally since almost everything on the stations is news.

My only complaint of the weekend show is that it's too short. I would love it if they expand it to an hour and have some sitcom reruns paired up to surround the show. They already have "Seinfeld" in the main lineup.

FOX 8 should grab some of the shows My 43 the Block displaced to after Midnight (i.e. "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," "That 70's Show," "The King of Queens" - the last airing on CBS 19) put it on in a 10AM to Noon or 1PM block. It could help improve the Saturday morning numbers if BC and LJ is the only show, possibly outside of the AM news, getting high numbers.

Or keeping with the retro theme of the skits, bring back "The Jeffersons," "Mama's Family," "Cheers," (lure them away from WBNX) "All in the Family" and "M*A*S*H*" to provide an different programming move. Maybe air the displaced "Barney Miller" reruns in that block.

Between the news, BC & LJ, the mandatory 3 hours of E/I programming, and Fox coverage of baseball and college football, there is no room at all on the Saturday schedule to squeeze anything else in.

I see your point. I thought it would be cool to see something surrounding BC and LJ between 10AM and Noon instead of what they got now.

I should add my all-time favorite skit is where Big Chuck as Ben Crazy wakes up Lil' John to have him take sleeping pills. Best work they've done.

My favorite is where BC and "The Pride of Maple Heights" Mary Allen (as Stash and Stella Kowalski) are walking through downtown, keep passing by these gorgeous women, and Stash doesn't even give them a look. But when they pass by this heavy set woman with a babushka, Stash flirts with her and Stella smacks him with her purse.

I watch Antenna TV (and 19-based MeTV) a lot, and I wouldn't mind seeing Barney Miller.

But now that they've "brought them back", BC&LJ rule the roost, and when the Saturday show returned to the schedule, I even noted on the blog that I expected to see the show on 8.2 at some point. Perfect fit.

There are Antenna TV shows I wish the BC&LJ show would preempt. And whoever put "Remington Steele" on MeTV weeknights at 8 should have their head examined.

I shook my head at that one too..Nothing wrong with Remington Steele really, but it's too new..And wasnt that memorable compared with hundreds of other series they could put as an 8PM prime time anchor of their lineup..

They probably brought "Steele" in because of Pierce Brosnan's later fame as James Bond.

But all in all both Antenna TV and MeTV are outstanding, and even This TV on WBNX has a few gems as well as far as classic TV.

WUAB is also carrying Leverage reruns.

I saw it listed on the online schedules. Fits in with 43's Sunday afternoon/night lineup of crime/lawyer shows.

43's Saturday lineup (after football) looks like what their usual weekday lineup would be in most years (double shots of "That 70's Show", "How I Met Your Mother", "30 Rock" and "2 1/2 Men" from 4-8 p.m.

But this year WUAB loaded up on talk and tabloid shows during the day, shoving most of the sitcoms to after hours. Saturdays are almost like what a classic "43 The Block" schedule would look like.

I don't really like that show, but it should be on weekends or something. It shouldn't be their 8 PM lead.

Then there's "The Cheers Preemption" on MeTV, where every weeknight, WOIO/19.2 viewers are treated to an hour of the "Dick Van Dyke Show" because they use another episode of the show to fill the "Cheers" time slot (10 PM these days, right after the scheduled "Dick Van Dyke Show").

I like the show, and will watch, and feel about the same way about "Cheers"...not a huge fan, but if it's on, I'll watch. But can't they put something else in that preemption slot? Pull a "Get Smart" episode from weekends, maybe?

All this because WBNX stubbornly holds onto "Cheers" and runs it exactly once a week, in the very early hours of Sunday.

WBNX should air Cheers with Frasier on weekdays around in the 10AM hour to give it better treatment.

Or...WUAB should bring it back and air it in marathon sessions. I'd rather see two or more hours of Shelley Long saying goodbye and Kirstie Alley saying hello on "The Block" instead of the same, tired episode of "Happy Days" where a girl tells Richie he needs to see a therapist. :D

Seriously, "Cheers" and some other shows would be better for 43 on weekends, especially on Saturday mornings into afternoons. I know the informercials make money, but they have the worst lineup on paid advertising I've ever seen.

All "Happy Days" is on 43 is filler in case the ACC football game ends before 4 p.m.

And 55 airs "Cheers" on weekends merely as placeholder programing. Often times, "Cheers" is sacrificed in case a movie runs long.

Speaking of which, notice that only 55 really airs movies in Cleveland anymore (about 9 or 10 per weekend)?

Now 43 airs one Saturday nights at 8, and 5 will air one late nights on Fridays (even at that they'll sometimes air Live Well programming in that slot instead of a movie), but 3, 8, and 19 don't air movies at all.

Now granted, subchannels like Antenna TV (8.2), Bounce TV (43.2), and This TV (55.3) are stacked with movies, but the main channels...not so much.

I was informed by someone at Fox 8 that they are unable to air Barney Miller on Antenna TV 8.2 because another station in the area has the contract. I asked which station, but I was told they don't know. ::)

I've seen movies on 8 on Sunday afternoons a few times before football season. I remember seeing "Random Hearts" with Harrison Ford one day while at a restaurant.

It's funny that 5, 8, 19 and 43 each had movies often every week. Now it's dwindled a lot. My thoughts is that with Netflix, Redbox, and of course, cable and satellite.

I still remember the old bumpers for Movie 5, 8's movies, Cinema 19 and 43's movies from the 80's through 2000's. Not to mention Cinema 55 too.

From the 50's-70's All the stations had multiple movies back in the day..3 at one time had movies at 9, 1, 5 and 11:15 Monday-Friday..8 would have movies at 10:30, 1, 5 and 11:20..

Weekends, all 3 channels might have up to 3-5 movies each on Saturday/Sunday depending on sports and the length of movies..some westerns might be an hour long..This doesnt even factor in 19/43//61 or even 17/23/55/67 in Akron-Canton

Between Fox's coverage of MLB, NFL, NASCAR, and college football, there's no time for 8 to regularly schedule a movie (the occasional flick when there's a couple of hours to fill here and there notwithstanding).

And as far as those old movie bumpers go, those bad boys are all over You Tube.

Even as recently as '94, 43 still had the long running "Prize Movie" with John Lanigan in the afternoons, and "Star Movle"/"8 O'Clock Movie" at night during the week, an numerous films on weekends.

And up until around '94 when Fox Kids fell in their laps and they changed course, 55 had multiple movies on weekdays (and still do on weekends - though these days they carry modern syndicated movie packages, rather then the old public domain flicks they had back in the day).

Well all that's been rectified.

Starting 12/31, MeTV's new primetime lineup will be an all classic comedy block:

7p - M*A*S*H X2
8p - Bewitched
8:30p - I Dream of Jeannie
9p - Mary Tyler Moore
9:30 - Bob Newhart
10p - Odd Couple
10:30p - Dick Van Dyke
