There are way too many stations carrying that nutty Coast to Coast show.
Thanks to the killer directional night signal of Buffalo's 1520 WWKB, those of us living in southern New England actually DO have the option of listening to the WOR Network's "Joey Reynolds Show" as an alternative to the nuttiness of "Coast to Coast".
However, if you need an alternative which is ALSO nutty......Shortwave station WWCR, from Nashville airs a re-broadcast of the previous afternoon's "Alex Jones Show" in the overnight hours.
Starting next week, Citadel Media is adding Doug McIntyre to overnights on WABC and KABC, and "more major markets very soon." Meaning they'll probably force stations like WLS and WMAL to carry it.
So C2C is off WABC and KABC...also WRKO Boston who is losing it to a forthcoming Clear Channel talk station (AM 1200, April); reply by RKO with local Howie Carr

Overnight talk radio goes one of two basic directions. It is what it is, not what people wish it would be.
Approach #1 is that late night talk radio is to put people to sleep - what is actually being said on the show is not important. Coast to Coast mostly fits in that category. Joey Reynolds used to.
Approach #2 is to appeal to people who are wide awake during third shift and their brains are functioning. The Trucking shows, John and Jeff and Kate Delaney are more in that camp. That's a very small demographic however, and doesn't figure into Arbitron ratings. A 30% share of 10 people won't generate a lot of revenue.
I firmly believe that many program directors don't even know what is airing on their station on their overnight shows, especially mdnight to 5am on Saturday mornings and Monday mornings. Many station web sites still show Coast to Coast weekdays as Art Bell's show, even though Art left the show in 2003. Many stations still list Bruce Williams and Joey Reynolds. Maybe they haven't been reading their affiliate relations mail.
